1. On the (very) rare occasion that I have amps in my car overnight, the load cover is over them and I reverse back (gently) into a stone wall. I'm still relieved to find it all intact the next day..............
2. I had the same thing back in the day - I wrote & offered to sell them the name (which I had coined for radio use) - never heard from/of them again......
3.
4. I did a few gigs at the Nags Head - it's a hotel now, I believe - Red Lion Wooburn Green has gone - Wycombe Trades & Labour was eminently forgettable (is it still there?).........never did the White Horse (not sure I missed much).........
5. Pretty well all of the pubs that I played back in the day seem to have been demolished or burnt down (must prove something. but I'm not sure what).
6. Cor - there's teknikal....I'll stick with my KT120s & let everyone else fight............
7. I'm delighted to see Alex 'getting there' - his attention to detail & customer service is first rate, as, in my opinion, is the product. (I've just run up my Dubsters on a couple of Ormat 3000s, and I might get my hearing back to normal by Wednesday). Well done mate, it's not easy to start a business from scratch (I know, I've done it a couple of times).
8. Noise meter tip - plug your extension lead into the cooker wall socket - they all have a13amp outlet - and they feed off a high amperage direct line.
9. I will kick this off by saying that I can't stand Chris Evans, but I'm trying to stay detached here. Am I the only one who thought it was more-or-less the same programme, with just a change of presenter? ....might as well got Kylie Minogue as far as I'm concerned - at least she's easy on the eye (& don't seem to shout much)... I await to be told that I've missed a nuance or five - your opinions please? Mods - Pls move this to the off topic thread already running?
10. I knew someone would get Heft in before me.....I wonder why valve amps sound louder? I've got a few, and they easily trounce my Crown Class D - p'raps someone can come up with a credible answer?
11. I use Eminence for bass (thanks Alex), can't see much, if any advantage with these, but I suppose price might be a factor?
12. I used to get Chris Squire, his bass rig, a drumkit and various other bits in a mini van (Chris rode in the back and winged a lot).
13. You have a balanced output xlr on the rear of your 550 - this should be ok as a send to the 250- try it and see - you won't blow anything up...........
14. ^ ^ ^ as a rule of thumb - 'the real morons always live at the top of the tree'.
15. A long time ago I offered to do a friends wedding for free (yup, that long ago). It was in a very posh brand new rebuilt hotel just down the road in the same village....I set up early (around midday) so that I wouldn't be under anyones feet & said I'd be back by seven....then the hotel gets sh*tty because they don't have a music system.....they expected me to provide music (for free) for around ten hours or so....(no, I didn't, before you ask).
16. Like many on here, I own/use a mix of kit (I voted yes, btw), so it ain't that simple............
17. I hate to be an old cynic (but I will...) - there to me is a difference between 'liking' what you hear out of a system, and struggling to hear the second cellist on the right picking his nose.................
18. Another vote for 'don't do it' - just take out the head & fix into a new box - that way if the WEM is worth 'real' money, you can put it back together (& sell it to an American).
19. I had a pair of Celestion SR1 power speakers at one time - always worked behind them, always had ears that hurt after about an hour or so. These were not ported...........
20. There is a firm on fleabay that alleges its stuff is serviced & cleaned. I had the pleasure of buying from them once (only once) - what arrived took days to clean the rexine (on a smallish head) and a specialist to sort out the disgusting state of the innards (& replace the caps, which needed attention & had clearly not been checked). This is not what I understand 'serviced & cleaned' to mean..... Caveat Emptor, I suppose........
21. Your living room sockets must have earth/ground connection - does your man-cave stuff earth to the same point? I would unplug (not switch off) everything in the place apart from the amp, and see if that sorted it - then plug stuff back in until the problem starts up again............
22. Chris Squires mum used to have a home production line of Paisley kipper ties, everyone in Harrow bought them from Rave boutique (I think) in Station Road.........
23. I, being amazingly old, am going to bed.
