1. Where abouts in the country are you? If you can get to Glasgow easily (not counting on it) there's a very nice DeArmond bass in the dreaded 'Guitar Store', a place for thieving gypos to flog on their stolen goods quickly with no questions asked. Er, allegedly. It was £250, a Starfire I think but I may be (read: probably am) wrong. I'll try and find out what it was. Edit: Checked the website, it's definitely a Starfire. Didn't get a shot on it but it sure was pretty, and that's the most important thing about semis, right?
2. Oops, sorry OG, it didn't occur to me to put a warning. Please accept my apologies, and have now rectified it.
3.
any particular brand of lemon oil recommended?
Dunlop seems to be standard in most guitar stores. Can't say how good it is though, but I'm tempted to get the 1oz. bottle to try it out, it's about a quid off ebay and my Precision neck needs a bloody good clean.
4. Is he trying to say that the the bass has less sustain than the bass would have had with the stock bridge? New chunky bridge + thru body stringing = increased sustain, so is the guy claiming that this 4mm block has counteracted all of that? Or is he saying that it sustains less than it should do? Either way, the block would decrease sustain, it means there's less space for the neck and the body to make contact and resonate against each other.
5.
'2 years' I've recently retired my boots. I think they're older than me. And I could always have them re-soled. Converse at a wedding sounds awesome. I hope it's been ok'd, though. Women can get funny about this sort of thing, I understand.
Yep, OK'd by my girlfriend's mum. It's my girlfriend's cousin who's getting married, don't think she's too bothered, but had to check with the girlfriend's mum because she is funny about stuff like that. I wanted classic 'black canvas, white rubber' ones but the weren't deemed appropriate, so these all black ones are the compromise. Thing is I don't like them that much, and probably wont wear them again, so I thought I'd see if anyone wanted a trade.
6.
MB1. WTF are Embrace?
Am I the only one that knows about this Embrace? They came first, and are immeasurably better (in my opinion of course, before the deluge of angry British Embrace fans start getting antsy)
7. Christ, I keep forgetting about the wonder that is the Peter Cooks Clearance Section Always some good deals in there, if you can be bothered waiting for it all to load and then taking the time to go through it all. Have a bump for a nice guitar though.
8. Even without the vocoder mic it's still a good price. I have 3 mates who use them in different bands in various contexts, very versatile kit, and I can't remember ever seeing anyone using the vocoder mic. If someone really wanted one, I think you could just get one from Korg for a tenner or so.
9. Bump this one back up - Anyone fancy a swap? Would sell them if anyone wants?
10.
As far as I'm aware, Epiphone only do it in cherry red or black (ebony).
Poo Cherry red it'll (eventually) be. How much was the Hipshot? If the stock bridge is as bad as you say it'll probably be the first thing I do to it.
11. Best bass porn so far! I've been gassing for one of these for ages, my girlfriends has even given the green light, it's just a case of mustering together £200 to buy one, which to be fair is a bargain price for a cracking bass. Is cherry red the only colour? I fancy a worn brown one, I know Gibson do one in that finish. Very nice Neepheid, very nice.
12.
I think the best thing for you to do is take your head to your local music store and try it with all the cabs they have and see what you like.
+1. A 2X10 might balance out the muddiness of the EB-3s neck humbucker though. I use a 4X10 because it balances out my bassy bass and head pretty well.

Distortions

I got rid of my ODB-3 because I'm another who reckons it was too fizzy, but I have to admit I'm mighty tempted by the Double Muff, mainly because of the 'True Bypass' that the ODB didn't have. I've been borrowing a Danelectro Wasabi distortion which is pretty good, and has the db boost, but when it's not in use it really colours the clean sound
14. Does anyone know what distortion is used on that track? Someone on here mentioned that Thom Yorke played bass on that track, so I don't know if he used his own stuff or Colin Greenwood's. According to wikipedia, Colin uses a Lovetone Big Cheese live, does anyone know if that was used on the recording?
15. It's hideous, but I bet it sounds great just to be arsey.
16.
bahh, I got the cab and its awesome, but I was too late to pickup the neck. AUGHH
Hard luck, that's sh*t! Collection depots have a habit of closing early on a Saturday because, er, electricity cos double on a Saturday, and if they don't lock the doors early they wont lock at all. Or something. Quite often I've got to pick up stuff on a Saturday and the place just hasn't been open at all. Lazy bastards. Anyway, make sure when you leave the seller feedback that you mark the communication rating 0 stars.
17.
Can this REALLY be worth £499? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vintage-60s-Paul-McC...1QQcmdZViewItem And does it REALLY say "Vox" on the headstock? The word there seems to be a bit longer ...
I just received a message from the seller of this one, they say it's a Hondo with a Rickenbacker truss rod cover on it. I don't think they're claiming it as a Vox though, if you look at other items they've got, all the Beatles style guitars end with 'for Vox' in the listing. Odd that.
18. Did Minty Fresh Death have this? Whippet and Rugby League Land sounds like Yorkshire to me, which is a fair old drive to Wales
19.
2nd message in a week to musicalboys123 which hasnt been replyed to, where the hell is my neck?
Atop your shoulders? Did you buy it via eBay? You can claim your money back through Paypal if they're not responding to your emails.
20. Edit: Ignore me, I'm a spazz. Mine are soldered like that, I've just never noticed before. That's my idiot quota used for this week.
21. Seymour Duncan Jazz Bass Wiring Diagram. Can someone tell me why on the neck and the bridge volume pots, the solder points that don't have wires connected look like they're bent backwards? Looking at my Jazz control plate, they haven't been. Should they be? Also why hasn't the unused solder point on the tone control been bent? Am I being really dense here?
22. But Warpig put one in his Bronco, look further up, all he had to do was sand the pickup pocket a bit, so it would fit. The lipstick pickup would look very cool though! You may want to change the bridge at some point too, I've never found anything good about bridges where the number of saddles doesn't equal the number of strings. As for the Bronco slagging, they don't pretend to be anything great, but they're good fun and with a couple of small changes they can be pretty good, and there's nothing wrong with wanting it to sound good. I say mod it if you want to, ignore what everyone else thinks. Check the reviews on Harmony Central for the Bronco, lots of people raving about them after making a couple of changes. I found the Broncos to be like most Squiers, good guitars but generally crappy hardware.
23. Er, yeah, basically. You got it from the USA right? I assumed that customs would charge you their usual bit on the top.
