No idea if it has the features you're after but I like the sound of the Digitech Polara.

Nothing to lose is there? Amazon have a good returns policy.

I always have a few listens through and write down the structure first, and I always take those notes to rehearsal so that when the guitarist launches into the middle 8 at the wrong time I know I'm right. Learning the actual song can be anything from a few minutes to eternity and beyond in my experience.

I've got a lined fretless because I'm not very good at it and don't practice enough to get better. There, I said it. P.S. I've also heard a few players who could do with lined necks.

Have picked up a One Control Mosquite blender. I'm pretty happy with the sound from the Mooer Fog so hopefully I can combine some slightly more treble focussed fuzz with a good dollop of dry signal to get what I'm after. We'll see.

Reminds me of Christmas when I gave a toss. Anticipation and suspense followed by misery and dejection when you unwrap socks and handkerchiefs yet again. Whee do they dredge this garbage up from?

I've never put the string back through the post either. I always make sure that each wind of the string goes below the previous one to hold the string down in the nut.

I'm after a fuzz pedal to fill out a bit of the sound when the guitarist solos. Basically, I want something that sounds like a chunky rhythm guitar underneath that keeps plenty of dry blend in the sound. The reviews I've seen on YT all seem to focus completely on face melting mush which is not what I want. I recently took a punt on a Mooer Fog which sounds quite good but doesn't allow dry signal adjustment. I'd like a standard size or mini unit. The Big Muff Nano Pi sounds quite promising but does anyone have any other suggestions?

I had exactly this scenario a year or so ago. We lost our rhythm guitarist. I've had to fill in quite a lot of the gaps with both playing and sound. I naturally play with my thumb and 2 fingers which is a good style for doing exactly this. I fattened up the sound with a low gain drive (EHX Bass Soul Food) which is on all the time to add a bit of grind, another drive pedal later in the chain for grittier stuff and I've also just added a fuzz which I used on a very low setting for songs where the lack of rhythm guitar is a problem (i.e. when the lead guitarist is soloing). The one thing I would say is don't be tempted to try to fill up all of the gaps. I'm firmly of the opinion that what you don't play is every bit as important as what you do. I'm sure you'll love it though.

My stuff stays out in my workshop and haven't had any problems in years. I does all have decent covers or cases though.

My favourite Bowie bass line is Lady Grinning Soul. No help on the OP but just wanted to share that.

Haven't used one myself but if the Eden WTDI does anything like the preamps in the WT amps I'd think it was worth a look. Think you also get an XLR out on it as well.

[/quote] I use pedals when I need a different sound for a particular song. I love the clean tone of my gear but often need a bit of breakup to fit well in the mix. Sometimes I need the clean tone with no effects at all. Pedals can give you that versatiliy but I think it's fair to say that you can't clean up the sound of a growly amp but you can easily make a clean amp growly.

I remember first hearing their Reggae sounds on the radio and then being totally dumbfounded when I first saw them on TV that they were bleached blond white boys.

Seemed to me like it was a case of firmly grabbing the wrong end of the stick and doing something rather nasty with it. Good that it's all been chucked in the bin where it belongs though.

I'm the oldest in my band by 15 years. I want to do this for as long as I can and was recently mighty encouraged when I saw Robin Trower. Old guy with grey whispy hair takes to the stage and proceeds to blast his way through a set which completely blew me away. He's got plenty of years on me so I came away feeling energised. However, my bandmates are frequently 'too knackered' to rehearse and it p***es me off that they seem to have no concept at all that time starts to run out at some point. I guess I was the same 15 years ago but I want to keep going at full throttle til the engine blows.

Some 'Old People' pass-times I've noticed are; Driving very slowly,especially during rush hour. Paying for the weekly shop in 2p pieces. Asking for a full ingredients and cooking process breakdown whilst ordering a pub lunch. These all look like splendid fun.

Every drummer I've played with has enjoyed The Riverboat Song (Ocean Colour Scene). Think it's in 6/4 so the punters can dance to it as well.

I've never done an audition. A drummer mate of mine once asked me to come to an audition with him as the bass player in band he was trying out for wasn't available. I did it as a favour. A few days later my mate phoned me to say he didn't get the gig but they wanted me to join. I played with them for 5 years.

The Factotum demos I've seen on Youtube don't seem to highlight any particular tracking issues - certainly not 'all over the place'. The trouble with these demos is that they are usually sponsored by the manufacturer and the demonstrator will usually stay away from any dodgy areas. I'd say check out as many of the demos for yourself as you can rather than take anyone else's word for it. You'll find some on there that get down the low end of the neck without obvious issues.

Of the analogue Octave pedals, I had the T16 but it wouldn't track anywhere near low enough. The Redwitch Factotum is the only one that really intrigues me.
