1. Just picked up a SolidGold FX Beta from the forum. I think my search is over. Gives just the right amount of growl to be an always on pedal near the start of my signal chain. Warm and fat sounding like a germanium pedal should be.
2. My search continues. It's more of a hobby than a necessity though since I'm quite happy with my sound. I guess I just like trying different stuff out at my leisure. I had a Bass Soul Food as an 'always on' for the rock covers band I play in. Not a bad pedal at all for the money. Then a COG Knightfall came up F/S but that doesn't really hit the mark for some reason which I can't put my finger on. I now have a SolidGold Beta incoming from an 'Items Wanted' post on the forum which I'm really quite excited about. Germanium should keep it warm and punchy I'm hoping. Later in my chain I have the Tritonlab Fet overdrive which is 100% a keeper. I've also recently added a Chowney Fuzzster and I can't speak highly enough of it. It's incredibly versatile, has a great dry blend and costs peanuts.
3. Had a Gallien Kreuger MB 500 Fusion for a while and was very impressed by it's power and versatility. Never owned one but was also very taken with the Tecamp Puma.
4. Funniest one I had was when our singer was struggling with a song. I said we could change the key to which he replied 'don't bother with that, I'll just sing it a bit higher', to which I replied 'as in out of tune'. He looked totally puzzled by this.
5. And another one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wvq85yKCydg
6. Here's a couple for ya http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1rX9E8NuRw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-kA3UtBj4M
7.
Something like this?
Bought one a week or so ago. Cracking little pedal. Was sold by the Scott Whitley demo and the sounds he was getting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lK5AC05Diys
8. I've now picked up a Chowny Fuzzster which has dry blend. Really like this pedal and it's dirt cheap.
9. Did he use a music stand?
10. Fromage a trois. alternatively, The Niiiiiiiiiiice.
11. A lot of good advice already in the thread. I've been there and done it. It does sound very different at first, and so it should. The important things are to analyse what you are playing to see if it actually works. There may be quite a few songs that just don't work, but don't worry as there will be plenty you can replace them with. We've consciously looked at bands that have the same personnel (Guitar/drums/bass/vox) and picked songs that work for them. You could pull off a few Queen or Jam songs but you'll never sound like Earth Wind & Fire. I'd also say 'embrace the space' that will appear in the music. What you don't play can be equally (if not more) effective than what you do. You can also do a great job stripping down songs to get your own feel and sound.
12. Not my cup of tea but I'm sure there were plenty saying the same 50 something years ago when Hendrix emerged. I'm all for people pushing the envelope - just don't particularly want to listen to much of it.
13. Feeling sad and rather old all of a sudden.
14. I much prefer the sound through my cab than what comes out of the PA. Since 85% of what we play doesn't require me to go through the PA (thankfully), it's important for me to be able to hear what I'm playing, so dispersion is really important to me.
15. They can't sell it if you tell them it's stolen. Do it with a letter and maybe get them to sign something that says they know the situation.
16. Any pedals that are affected by how hard you play (e.g. envelope filters, some drive and fuzz pedals) would be compromised by what a compressor does. However, it may be that the way the compressor affects those pedals is a sound that you like. It really is a try it and see situation but my preference is to have it after such pedals in the chain with everything else after the compressor. If you're using it for limiting it would most likely go last in the chain.
17. This is a killer demo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lK5AC05Diys
18. Top bloke. Everything as described. Have dealt with Dan buying and selling and is always faultless.
19. Expensive - AER Amp One Medium - Tecamp Puma Combo Cheap - TC 2x8 Combo.
20. We had our powered mixing desk fail once. We put the vocals through my backup amp (Streamliner) and it got us out of a jam. Sounded fine in the circumstances.
21.
10 cc were superb. Reminded me how good they were back in the 70s and a major touring band. It's quite bizarre how some music like this nearly disappears off the radar in terms of radio airplay - this happened to ELO also until the revival in recent years. For those of us reminiscing with rose tinted spectacles about the OGWT, I recall that rather like Later, it had its ups and downs and sometimes it was a pile of poo whereas others it was great - once again, as with any music programme of that type, it depends on your taste as to how much you like or dislike. The Tube is another - some phenomenal stuff on there - along with some not so good.
The thing about OGWT was that you had to watch it from start to finish. No recording it or ability to watch it later whenever you felt like it. As with all things consigned to the memory, the human brain tends to remember them as much better or worse than they actually were. That's where a lot of the magic is.
22. I now realise I've been playing bass and guitar upside down all these years. No wonder I'm so bad at both.
23. I'm waiting for 'being offended by next to nothing' to become a competitive sport. We'll be World Champions for years and years.
24. At the beginning of each set. Hardly ever needs any adjustment either.
