1.
yeah, there are 2 sounds, but I think they're both from a Fairlight- in the Radio2 Producers programme on Trevor Horn he explained how Relax was done using a bass guitar low E note sample and a piano E note sample in unison
I thought Norm Watt Roy played the original bass line for Relax
 2. Looks like we're going to have a go at 'Until You Come Back To Me' by Aretha, featuring a great bass line by Chuck Rainey. My ears are struggling with bits of this. I understand it was transcribed in Bass Player magazine a few years ago, so if anyone can lay their hands on a copy I'd be pleased to hear from you.
 3. He means read the dots, young man. The Book isn't tab, it's proper notation. Can anyone tell me if the Gladys Knight version of 'Grapevine' is in this book?

 5. Music Outlet Shop on ebay also sells these - the design has changed slightly but they still work. I got some black ones for £4.50 a pair plus postage.
 6. I've heard of a few people tuning CGDA and then capoing on the 12th fret to give Cello pitch. Here's another interesting variation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9F3vwvrWM4
 7. Well done Nik, when I was trying to sell it it was up here for months and no-one was interested. I only moved it on because I was under pressure to reduce the size of my collection. I was the second owner: the bass actually dates from 1984 according to the serial number, so it's a 24-year-old bass.
 8.
Pleased to see that you are still staying clear of the Railway Inn. Keep up the good work.
The people in the Milestone are very nice people. Rumour is that The Railway is up for sale, if you fancy moving into the rock and roll pub business.
 9.
Will the Behringer BDI21 work as a standalone bass preamp to drive the balanced, low impedance input of a professional power amp?
I think it's unlikely. The DI output is very puny and when I've used it to DI into a PA it's needed the gain wound well up on the mixing desk.
 10.
hey - I bought a return ticket from Waterloo for £11.50 - so that's me sorted - I'll probably get a cab to the venue from there... so er, see some of you there m
I'm probably going to do the same thing - my season ticket will get me into London and for 11.50 it's not worth driving. The venue is walkable from the station - 1.6 miles according to google. I guess it just depends on how much stuff you're planning to bring. Pete
 11. Hi, I've got a couple of gigs with Crossover (rock/pop covers) coming up in Ipswich this week: Thurs 18th Sept - The Milestone Sat 20th Sept - The Kingfisher Come along and say hi if you've nothing better to do! Pete

 13. If you want a Japanese one with an ash or alder body, you need a not-for-export model (it'll also have US pickups). Currently you can't get these exported new, but fareastguitars occasionally has second-hand ones.
 14.
One of my major influences..a legend!
+1 If you guys hadn't, I was going to. What a legend. As far as I can tell, Jennifer Moore is no longer doing gigs which is a shame - I saw her play once and was very impressed.
 15. I was looking into this at one point, but it got stuck on the back burner for various reasons mostly to do with cost. One of the guys I used to work with was my inspiration - his shed is more or less finished, mine still not started. http://www.ashbysoft.com/ I wanted one big enough for a 5 piece band to rehearse in, which translate into a shed 20' x 10 ' x quite tall. Basic soundproofing strategy: you need a re-inforced floor, to put down 6" foam tiles topped with flagstones. That gives you a nice mass-spring-damper system and sorts out the sound going downwards. Then inside you need acoustic plasterboard or celotex on the walls, and then you build another room inside on the sprung floor as a sound booth. You'd probably leave one end to be a control room. Phil's shed works really well, and you can stand outside the shed while someone is playing the drumkit full-on and have a quiet (though not whispered) conversation.
 16. Anyone from the Ipswich area interested in going along to this? I know it's not exactly the South East, but it's probably about the same distance as Northampton.
 17. Wow Nik. The London Guitar Show should have hired you to set up the Bass Room last year, it would have been a spectacular success! This is definitely worth making an effort for, I'll see if I can get a passout. My gear is all pretty mainstream so probably not of interest, apart from the Burman unless CK is bringing one of his. Pete
 18. Here's its twin, not far down the road from me. If I hadn't already paid more for one in worse condition :-( I'd be after this one. 19.
there's a lot to be said for just a note thats very loud and very bassy indeed
+1000 Normally I'd have put myself in the 'everything full on all the time and sort it with the amp/eq' . But I've just acquired an active bass with Piezo from greyparrot, which has such an incredible range of sounds that it seems rude not to try and use some of them. Now if only I could figure out the best combinations of what those 3 tone controls and 4 volume controls can do ... I think it might take a while. The Precision is safe for now.
 20.
At the Golden Hind Nacton Rd Ipswich. Just for fun and to flex our new muscles! Sunday 31st 3pm, make yaself known, im the one with the GB! BRING THE KIDS, LARGE ENCLOSED GARDEN.
Good luck with this Andy - I'm diving in Eastbourne otherwise I'd come along. Might still if we get blown out!
 21.
(it ain't a bass if it's that small).
Harsh! It's probably a Chamber bass, which would have been used in a Chamber music group. I had one when I was learning to play, which the old man sold to buy a 3/4 . Unusual to see one with Viol shoulders, the chamber basses were often more like an overgrown cello. Mine was.
instrument to a bass. If you can't find a dedicated bass luthier in your area, a violin/cello luthier is the next best thing.
If you can persuade them! All the violin makers I know hate working on double basses, the tools hurt their hands. I like the idea of getting the local violin making college involved. Best of luck with this, and as someone else said you got a really good deal.
 22.
I was in a band with a drum machine in the 80s. Never again - they don't know how to jam.
Look on the bright side - at least you only have to punch information into a machine once ;-)
 23. I'm very sorry to hear that too. I bought a bass from Ed and he was an absolutely top bloke. My condolences to his family.
