1. Not last night but two weeks ago at my wedding. Played a full first set with my old band that I had recently left ( on very good terms ) I had secretly planned with several people that they get up and play a song or two. They consisted of guys who I had played with many years before who hadn't played for years, people who had never sung live with a band before but done the occasional karaoke etc and also people who had not done anything at all but were game for a laugh. It went down a storm especially with the partners of the people who got up who hadn't a clue about it. Had some great feed back afterwards about how special it made it and the people involved were so grateful that they had got to get up and play or sing with a live band and realise a lifetimes ambition. It could have all gone horribly wrong but it didn't and was a cracking night.
2. Watched the Sound City programme on the iplayer whilst flying to Chicago. Very entertaining and enlightening. Well worth a watch.
3.
If you've ever seen Clapton live he rarely says anything..... and looks proper miserable at the same time
Yes I saw him a few years ago and I may have just put an album on.
4. If you put this on the rock of the North Facebook page it will get snapped up in minutes.
5. After waiting several years between tours I really wish Geddy Lee would say a little more than just " hello Manchester" etc and that Akex and Neal would actually say something. Don't think it's too much to ask for £75 a show.
6. We are over in the states at the moment and it's pretty big news over here and I seem to recall that tonight on tv they have Paul and Ringo on tv ( not sure if it's an interview or a concert or both as I only caught a glimpse ). Think I will tune in because those scenes when they arrived here for the first time and the whole Ed Sullivan show thing are still amazing fifty years later and it's unlikely anything like that will be repeated ever again.
7. I know it doesn't effect the sound but when I am purchasing anything I always want to visually appreciate what I am spending my very hard earned money on and that is a very nice looking amp.
8.
Yep, same here. Funny thing is i work for a printers and run the large £150,000 colour machine we have, yet i still go to Photobox for all my prints
Well that would appear to be a very good recommendation
9. Interested in this thread as I am sure there are some very cheap basic devices allowing single instrument input for macs
10. Final four sorted and agreed on As people arrive we are having in instrumental version of stairway to heaven Bride walking in we are having the forest Gump theme Sign register we are having instrumental version of chasing cars Exit we are having the entrance of the Queen of Sheba ( you will know it when you hear it. ) Thanks guys
11. Great suggestions guys and going to youtube a lot tonight Couldn't remember how Forest Gump went but just listened and wow, could be a winner, we loved the film more than once .
12. Getting married on the 1st of Feb and we need 4 suitable songs for the ceremony ( registry office ) We have a few ideas but I thought I would I get a few from you guys as nothing is nailed on yet. Think we like the idea of instrumental versions of good rock songs but like I say nothing is finalised and we are happy to hear of any suggestions. Not wanting anything too obscure as it needs to entertain friends and family etc These are the times the songs are required for and need to be suitable for in length etc When people are entering and getting settled Entrance of bride Signing of registry book Leaving ceremony Many thanks Tony
13. Hope this all works out ok. If I was a landlord I would be just as keen if not more so in ensuring the band were still on for a NYE gig.
14. I have one of these but in the amber type of colour. Fabulous bass but always seem to sell at bargain prices when used.
15. Yes its a lovely community to feel part of Merry Xmas to all Tony
16.
Played my last ever gig with the band I've been with for 13 years yesterday at the local Golf Club's Christmas party, before I retire to go travelling with the good lady. Brilliant! The guys made it into just the best night ever, changing the words of half of the songs in the second set (when the audience were well oiled) into anything that remotely sounded like or rhymed with "Bob" or "Sue" or "Bob and Sue"! (Sue is our lighting lady as well as having suffered wedded bliss with me for the last 37 years, so will probably be missed as much if not more than me by the band). Our front man must have told the audience half a dozen times that I was leaving that night, and in turn I was showered with hugs, kisses and adulation (!) from them. I dug my lucky bass players pork pie hat out of retirement, played the Pedulla Sue gave me 12 years ago on our silver wedding and don't think I made a mistake all night, and we all went back to one of the guy's houses for cheese, biscuits and whiskey afterwards. They gave me a big photo blown up onto that canvassy stuff to remember Breeze by, and its now in pride of place in the hallway, just in case any visitors don't believe I was once a 59 year old budding rock star...... Life just doesn't get any better than this, but as one door closes a new door has now opened to our latest phase of life as travellers, something we have wanted to do for ages, and now we are both retired and waiting delivery of our motor home has become a reality. Have to go now as I'm starting to well up writing this. Cheers to everyone here and have a great Christmas.
Beautiful story. Hope you have many years and miles of travelling ahead of you.
17. Last gig with my band last night at the Fleece in Skipton. Went down very well and we are playing pretty tight at the moment so nice to go out on a high. Looking forward to getting up and playing a set with them when they play our wedding in Feb.
18. Being in a band !! Never heard any audience member describe any song as cheesy but heard plenty band members ( including me I have to say ) say it.
19. Played a gig a few years ago and we got towards the end of the second set and a guy shouted out for Whiskey in the Jar which was definitely not in our female fronted bands repertoire but our guitarist started a note perfect rendition of the opening few bars and then me and the drummer kicked in at the appropriate time and we were off with a faultless performance all the way through with the guitarist singing every word. The look of amazement on our singers face was a joy to behold and the audience gave us the biggest cheer of the night for our impromptu performance.
20. Excellent and very well put together
21. Slightly OT but got loads of ironing to catch up with so put the Time Machine DVD and loving the growl from Geddys bass
22. I was in a soul funk Motown type band with a few classics thrown in and after a couple of years we ended up playing pretty much the same 26 or so songs as everyone was a sure fire dance floor winner. We played rock venues and weddings with the same set and wowed them everywhere we went. A full dance floor is a result as far as I am concerned and yes we did play mustang Sally every gig.
23.
Something along the lines of 'bassist wanted - must only play root notes'
Crickey, think I might match the criteria for that band as long as they would accept my very occasional flirtation with the tricky root/octave manoeuvre !!
24. Excellent song and love the video as well
