1. I have heard the arguments, comments, criticisms etc etc for years but one day in the future when I have some money spare I am just going to buy one. Nothing looks as cool as a bassist with a Ricky !! I hear the same argument from MX5 and numerous other car model owners ( fabulous cars so please don't shoot me down ) about how they are the sensible choice above an MGB I know it's not the sensible option but I love my MGB
2. Would you mind giving me the details of the three cameras involved ? I am soon to be upgrading and keen to see how various upgrades enhance picture quality potential weighted against the cost etc.
Interesting original OP but, in this instance, I actually don't agree I am a very average photographer but a serious upgrade to my camera a few years ago produced significantly better pictures. Last year I upgraded again, same make of camera but a major revision model and my picture quality leapt forward again. This has inspired me to take a lot more pictures and to spend more time working with my camera because I know I'm able to improve my results. Relatively speaking I'm a better cook than a photographer and, again, an upgrade to my hob a few years ago really improved my cooking skills. It's a ceramic job that gives me way more control over temperature and on delicate things, like fish and seafood, it makes a huge difference compared to my previous one. This in turn has inspired me to cook more complex meals and use more interesting ingredients and, ultimately, has made me a better cook So, in my household, higher end gear has made a significant improvement Not sure the same can be said bout my bass playing though. . . 3. Hi, band want to do Peter Greens Oh Well and not convinced what is out on the web is totally accurate and its a bit fast for my old ears ( and fingers by the sound of it ) but just wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction or has a decent tab sheet for it. Many thanks Tony
4. This is interesting as my wife's son who lives with us sells new household items on eBay and was telling me yesterday about an item he sold recently to the USA and the lady decided it wasn't fitting correct so wanted to return it ( like most others he says it's ok to return but they pay postage ) the item was £100 and eBay global shipping who had arranged the international part wanted nothing to do with it and the best quote he had was £335 !! Ended up giving her a £50 refund to keep it to keep her sweet ( petrified of a bad feedback score like most business sellers )
5. Now I know what a lanyard is :-) I thought it was one of those Miss World style sashes lol
6. Or alternatively look out for a car that has the nearest colour ( including older cars, plenty of forums ) and try the relevant dealer or club. Most cars built still have paint available for them no matter how old.
7. Just before facebook took off I was on there constantly running my own page and the two band sites I was on. Along with Friends Reunited they really missed a trick as they had so many users prior to facebook. Not been on either for years now.
8. I bought one of these as a non Fretless player and staggered how good they sound and how easy it was to play Really nice bass if you are thinking of giving fretless a go Think I will take mine to rehearsal on Monday :-)
9. Went very well Great bunch of guys, superb heated and fully equipped rehearsal room fifteen mins from the house and good players too They liked what I did ( which was pretty basic but right for the songs ) so it looks like I am back in a band again Looking for a drummer now but the lead guitarist has compiled really good drum tracks etc on his iPad so fine to keep rehearsals going till we find one Nice to have a bit of musical focus again. So easy to let it slip when not gigging.
10. Looks like I have lost my lightening lead and seem to be struggling to find another Anyone purchased a replacement lead anywhere ?
11. Spent part of the weekend learning new songs for an audtion and great to put the songs on a playlist and just kept going through them. Wish Thin Lizzy hadn't de-tuned all them years ago though :-(
12. I think Brian Clough preferred 442 or was that Alex Ferguson ??
13. Saw them on the Brits and was well impressed.
14. Thanks guys. Managed to get about nine more or less ready so looking forward to it. MG still going strong Pete. Not done much work on it but drive it a lot :-)
15. Put my playing on a back burner for a year and picked it up last night as I fancy doing a gig a month etc so meeting a band tomorrow looking for a bassist. Never felt as ill prepared but going to have a good bash at it tonight and get half a dozen from their set sorted. Really looking forward to it. More to being in a band than actually playing. Miss the craic and really looking forward to getting out in to the rehearsal room once a week again.
16. Using mine more and more now especially offline in the car. Would have cost me a fortune to purchase in a different medium the albums I legitimately own that are sat in the loft but this is superb.
17. Amazing place and can't wait to go back Number 1. Really comfy trainers are a must and totally acceptable virtually everywhere It's a film set you have seen before on nearly every street corner so try walk as much as possible rather than by tube and that way you will see more. Having said the above we took the tube to Brooklyn then walked back over the bridge, amazing skyline. Central Park, yes they do really roller skate round it pushing prams !! Statue of Liberty, Empire State, great value considering the iconic status. Might be good to do Empire State and Top of the Rock as one at night and one during day as they are equally amazing views. You are in for a brilliant time
18. Good comments and he also makes it plain in the book that Rush and him in particular take the pre tour rehearsal routine very serious and they will never be a band that just does their best. They were asked to do a Toronto charity gig at one point and they were not on tour but the rehearsals they put in were nearly at tour level for what effectively was a forty minute slot.
19. Being a huge Rush fan I can't actually say I agree with Neil Pearts way of dealing with his fame however I respect his decision and fair play to him he is quite prepared to write how he feels in the books. Like others have said Geddy and Alex have a totally different attitude towards their fame.
20. I believe he doubles as a friend and riding companion. In the books he tells a couple of stories of how some fans have got just that little bit close and it has spooked him a little. He quotes John Lennon who was of course shot by a "fan"
21.
Im not sure there is much faith required, if streaming stopped tomorrow, Id move on to the next thing or go and buy some CDs next few months on spotify are 99p as I opened a new account from my wife's Facebook
I agree, it's not likely that the whole industry will decide to give up on streaming etc overnight and even if they did it would only be for the next new alternative.
22. If you read any of Neil's travelling books he makes it quite plain that his job is as a professional musician and that involves you touring. He is passionate about himself and the band being gig ready when the tour starts but does admit that once he has got himself back to the very high level he needs to be at then it's his job to sustain that and play the gig to the best of his ability. He doesn't like to get involved in any of the post gig activities and gets off the drums and straight in to his touring RV then sets of in to the night, parks up and then is up to ride his bike to the next gig via the scenic route. It's also fair to say that he doesn't promote the rock star that he is when travelling and keeps as private as possible. He admits it's a job but a job he is good at and is passionate about and like I said earlier the touring is a part he doesn't quite like as much as the other bits. Maybe after forty years in the same job there would be bits we didn't like ??
23. It wouldn't surprise me one little bit if iTunes hasn't already got plans to move in to this arena. Even downloaded MP3's are starting to be just a little quaint !!
24. I think it's fair to say that the music industry has massively changed over the last ten years and will continue to do so. I'm very unlikely at my age to start to listen avidly to new bands as I am more than happy with what I grew up with and it doesn't really bother me too much that they won't be adding too many more millions to their bank accounts via spotify. They have concert tours and merchandise to do that for them now ..............
25. I am 56 years old in a fortnight and have been precious about "my albums" since I started collecting them in the early seventies and until recently I thought I still was. They have moved from my mums to Africa with me then back home in the mid eighties then through four serious relationships/marriages and five houses and if I am honest I can't remember the last time I actually played one. I see the boxes twice a year when the xmas stuff comes out then goes back in the loft. Tonight I listened to Made in Japan, Frampton Comes Alive, Moon Madness, Mott the Hoople Live and a A Night at the Opera. What a brilliant night and trip down memory lane.
