Furious at this legalised ticket touting charade !!
tonybassplayer replied to tonybassplayer's topic in General Discussion
Whilst I have a bit of an issue with the actual ticket prices I can't really argue with the supply and demand argument but it's the "behind the scenes" shenanigans that p**s me off. We tried last year for Glastonbury but didn't get them but reasonably satisfied that genuine attenders got them instead of us. Makes me laugh when major concert tours are on the news as "sold out" in minutes. If only they could be bothered to really find out the truth of who bought the tickets. Think they could be a little surprised as to how many still need real owners. -

Yes I'm going to take a gamble and tell her we are going to the concert as there are a couple of venues we could do and just keep looking. They seem to be drip feeding new dates in as well so I may have a chance. -
Furious at this legalised ticket touting charade !!
tonybassplayer replied to tonybassplayer's topic in General Discussion
One of the sites I was on yesterday was openly flouting that the face value of the tickets was pretty much half price of their price. The bands must have the power to change this for their tours but interestingly don't seem to want to. My guess is that some go on sale at face value ( plus booking charge so not really face value then ) and the others ( majority ?? ) are sold above face value to the touting companies who then put their chunk on. Just imagine if an airline ticket was advertised for £50 when it was really £87.50 !!! Seem to think this may have been visited before :-( -
Tried to get tickets recently to take my middle daughter to see One Direction who she is totally absorbed with but like many others I was unsuccessful and it was "Sold Out" Well excuse my French but that is total and absolute f*****g b****x as the net including ebay is awash with stupidly over priced tickets. These companies have obviously had the chance to block purchase tickets and then sell them on at stupid money. It really p****s me of that there is not a centralised point that all tickets are sold direct to the general public ( also known as the fans who put them there ) I know my rant won't change things but it just annoys me that such a parasitical industry is allowed to profiteer on people. The original prices are stupid enough but these others are ludicrous.

tonybassplayer replied to tonybassplayer's topic in General Discussion
It's a good week for us as we are on holiday this week just outside Chester in our newly acquired MGB with BA tomorrow then on Friday we have War of the Worlds in Liverpool as a belated wedding present from some friends. So looking forward to tomorrows gig -
How about a new section to the forum to discuss music ?

Music on a bass guitar forum ?? Whatever next. ;-) -
Bryan Adams, Manchester this Sunday, anyone else ??
tonybassplayer replied to tonybassplayer's topic in General Discussion
When I saw them previously I got the impression that if they had not been a major success and were not out playing stadium gigs they would be in a pub somewhere out gigging. It wasn't a job it was what they loved doing. -
I should warn you that there may a risk that he will play 'That Song' from The Bodyguard in extended 30 minute format.
It's the Robin Hood one I dread but played live with thousands singing along with every word it sounds pretty damn good. -
Wife's birthday pressie from April and really looking forward to it. Saw him a few times a few years ago and not since Slade have I have ever seen a pro band playing with such enthusiasm and having as much fun as the audience. Loads of hits, some I love and one or two not as keen but they will be good in a live packed arena. Apparently playing the whole of Reckless the breakthrough album plus a few favourite covers. Not going to suit everyone but a few hours watching a multi million single and album seller with another 8,000 people should make it a good night. My wife has never seen him live, I think she is in for a treat. Anyone else going ??

In 1995 I moved from running a small Ford and Nissan dealership to a Rover site. I went on a two day introduction course and couldn't believe the arrogance/naivety of the two guys running it. They had obviously been with the company for years. After a day and a half I politely suggested that at the weekend they go out and drive their competitors cars. Clearly they didn't and the rest is history. Unless you constantly go forward you automatically go backwards. I am 56 and love my Jazz bass and Strat but I am no longer the target market.

Well I thought it was excellent.

Prompted this morning whilst watching a little rush about Geddys name I know the man himself is unique and the name is actually a nick name but I have never heard it used elsewhere. Is it unique or are there lots of Geddys I just haven't heard about ??

Great song but not Geddys finest hair cut 😬
I've never understood marketing based on where the product is made.
All Volkswagen Golfs are made in Germany ?? No, think again !!

Victims of their own success ??? The Strat, Tele, Jazz and Precision remain virtually the same as the first ones made. They hardly decrease in value. Eventually a lot of them increase in value. The customer base on the whole keep them in superb condition. They don't rust. They need relatively little maintenance and unless taken to stupidly extreme measures should never ever break !! I could go on. Compare that business model to a quality but high volume car manufacturer !!!

It sounds like you may be regretting your actions a little and we have all done that before so why not request a meeting and explain your feelings about the gig and the band. Things always seem different after putting a little distance from them. Like others have said finding another "Sting" will not be easy and they may welcome you back after a proper apology.
-
Got to be really honest and say that if a band member did what you did i wouldnt want to be in a band with them any longer. I think your actions effectively wrote your own resignation from the band so i dont think they had any need to consult with you further. Sorry to be so blunt but thats what my reaction would be.

Sunday Afternoon Gigs, What Do You Think?
tonybassplayer replied to blue's topic in General Discussion
Love my Sunday's chilling out with the family etc. Played many a Sunday gig but it does destroy the whole day really where a Fri or Sat night still allows daytime activities -
Minor minor things I have noticed Chasing Cars is on the first dance list twice I think it's Jailbreak not Jail Break ( but could be wrong ) It's Dreadlock Holiday not I don't like cricket etc ( but may be best left alone for recognition purposes lol ) T

Kate Bush at the Hammersmith Apollo
tonybassplayer replied to rodney72a's topic in General Discussion
I haven't heard much of Kate's music and I am sure most fans will be happy with the set list but was just making the point that after waiting so long I would have thought that singing the songs that initially made her famous would have been part of the plan -
Kate Bush at the Hammersmith Apollo
tonybassplayer replied to rodney72a's topic in General Discussion
Yes I know what you mean. Sad to admit but I enjoyed the Rush Clockwork Angels DVD more than being at the actual gig. Much better sound, saw much more than I did on the night and MUCH cheaper. -
Kate Bush at the Hammersmith Apollo
tonybassplayer replied to rodney72a's topic in General Discussion
Just read the bbc mini review and quite frankly staggered that three of her biggest hits including the one that made her a household name were not given an outing !! Surely those very loyal fans who have probably spent a fortune on tickets, travel and accommodation in London and waited all this time deserve to hear those as an absolute minimum. -
The Worst Bass Lines to Play EVER!
tonybassplayer replied to Weststarx's topic in General Discussion
Struggling with many of these posts as the songs mentioned may not have the most complex bass lines but they pretty much are all crowd pleasers and dance floor fillers C'mon guys isn't this what we do ?? Playing loud music on a Saturday night to a full dance floor who are singing their heads of to million plus selling songs from a range of brilliant artists from the last fifty years and getting paid to do it !!! Not exactly the worst job in the world is it ? -
And of course most guitarists need the obligatory "Ritchie Blackmore" style Marshall stack set up to "cut through" whilst playing to 12 people in the local pub !!

Jamerson Bass Line Visualised Graphically
tonybassplayer replied to molan's topic in General Discussion
What a fabulous way to learn and admire. Never ever "watched" a bass line before.
