1. Rehearsing tonight so going to try it out and see how things sound in a duo situation.
2. Perfect for a Wishbone Ash tribute band. First time I saw them Martin Turner was playing a white one. Great memories.
3. Seen that and will download one tonight Looking forward to the next blog update
4. So those are still to purchase then ??
5. Got my sonic port yesterday and downloaded the software ( I believe ) Couple of questions from a complete effects novice if I may. I originally downloaded the free Jamup app then upgraded to the pro one and also the bass packs. How can I double check that I got the extras I paid for ? The only thing I ever really used before was a compressor. Is there one in my software perhaps called something else ? Told you I was a novice !! Many thanks Tony
6. Sonic Port due to arrive this week. Can't wait to try it.
7. Ignore my previous request. Just seen they all look about £69 so ordered one.. Looking forward to trying it out.
8. Anyone point me in the right direction for the cheapest place to get the sonic interface ?
9. Fabulous insight in to how I can use my iPad and all the new technology to help me get some new sounds. Going to get the sonic interface ordered and download the software this weekend. Many thanks. Looking forward to the next blog instalment too.
10. Never had a need or a desire for a fretless until a recent change in musical direction ( stopped being in a covers band and met a singer/guitarist wanting to do some original acoustic style songs ) prompted me to have a re think and just bought a cheap Cort four string fretless and I am loving it totally. Thought it would be a nightmare to play but it's so smooth and easy to play and I can see me using this a lot.
11. Plays like a dream. Never realised that playing a fretless could be so smooth. Definitely going to practise with it regularly and gig it.
12. Just bought an amp and a bass from the Yorkshire one. Always seems to be plenty of things for sale and lots of interest from buyers. Win win situation really.
13. Just had a couple of hours working some bits out for tomorrow's rehearsal and quite pleased so far. All the lines are very basic at the moment as I am getting used to the chord structures and the format of the songs etc but better to play something simple and solid first then elaborate ( if required ) later I believe. If nothing else it has definitely got me playing more and buying equipment ( collected new practice amp today, fretless arriving Thursday and looking for something effects related at the moment ) Tony
14.
The LBGS 2015 is on 7th and 8th March 2015!! http://www.londonbassguitarshow.com/
Must must must get this date in the diary and attend next year !!
15. Decided to take a break a couple of months ago from playing covers in bands for the last ten years and had a bit of a break but found I just wasn't using my bass at all and needed to do something rather than just let it fade. I responded to an advert from a local guy to me who was just getting back in to his music and wanted to add another dimension to the songs he had written so we met last week and I am working on basslines etc to add to the songs. Hope to take a few out live soon to open mics etc. Never had to do this before so it's opening my eyes as to what is possible and also what my limitations are with regarding to inventing new bass lines. So so different than learning cover songs and really getting in to it. Even bought a fretless to try add something different. Will post something up when we get some recordings done.
16. Bought it and collect it on Thursday. Looking forward to trying it out.
17. Not sure of the model but looks stunning. Reduced to £170. Think I should take a gamble. Does that sound a decent price ?
18. Hi, seen this advertised locally to me and wanting to try something a little different to get me inspired to play more and wondered what these are like and price I should be paying. Below is part of the description. Cort fretless with Bertolini active circuitry, swamp ash body with wenge neck. Any thoughts ? Tony
19. Why are all the cellists gorgeous dark haired females ?? ( not a complaint just a comment I hasten to add lol )
20.
A band meeting with no instruments is a must, sooner rather than later!
This is really good advice as it means you have to talk and it also lets them know that something different is going to happen that night.
21. If you struggle to fill this post it here and i am certain you will get some good quick replies https://www.facebook.com/groups/353750314693211/?ref=ts&fref=ts
22. Yes I can understand from a short video clip that he may not be everyone's cup of tea ( not a huge slap fan myself ) but the guy and the band had many sides to them not least of all was the ability to keep a packed audience hugely entertained from 7.30pm to 5am two nights running !! Glad I didn't have to pack down and load out after that gig lol.
23. It was very entertaining. I like blues but thought a full night could be a bit much but this band were amazing and very enjoyable.
24. Yes and by amazing co incidence the bassist in the other band on the other stage had his set up exactly the same !!
25. Just returned from our honeymoon to Chicago and beyond and we managed to visit a place called Kingston Mines blues club which had two stages and we managed to see two incredible bands. This short video is of the bassist from the Mike Wheeler band who were brilliant and actually dedicated three songs to us. They were very entertaining and whilst it was mainly blues they did a bit of soul and funk as well. I know the start of it is a bit gimmicky but he was an incredible player and changed styles throughout the night and was equally at home with every style. Hope you enjoy as much as we did. http://youtu.be/Bz_GvQHLDYQ
