G&L L1000

Thanks for posting - that brings back some memories... My first decent bass was one of these in natural finish - it was bl**dy great! Only sold it when I got my Wal Custom back in 1987. Golden days! I think I know where the G&L ended up...I wonder what it's worth now I might be able to buy it back... How much did you pay for this one?
  2. +1 That is without doubt a bargain price for what looks to be an 'investment' grade instrument. Can't see it remaining un-sold for long!
IMHO, for this bass, £3500 is a VERY fair price. There's just no way that I can justify (even to myself) owing two 1966 Precisions. Now if it was a 1956 of course ...
3. Just bought a set of strings from Chris & even a small transaction like that was a pleasure - the Beedster legend goes from strength to strength!
  4.
I'm so pleased a basschatter got this gig, because a success story is a success story despite some of the rather silly comments that have been made in this thread. I'm a working pro bass player and I really understand the need to network in a tough business so I find it rather ridiculous that some people can do nothing but sit at home and criticise someone else's efforts. Good Luck Mike and Good luck Skinny Machines I really hope you have success and even if you don't hit it big, I hope you have great fun trying. Jake
+1000 Well said Jake. And good luck to Mike.

  6. Thanks Chris & Clarky. I 'think' that they're 40 55 75 105 (stringbusters). PM sent!
  7. Here's my black 1960 Jazz...

  9. It might not be helping that you seem to have two similar basses for sale - one 3/4 and another full size... Might be interested if I knew which was for sale? Thanks!
  10. Brings back some memories - back in the day I had the complete set of all the Pearl FX pedals...sold them for peanuts or gave them away!
  11. Proper hard cases for all of them. The vintage ones never get left out on stands as I know from experience that sunlight/UV fades the finish (especially the red in sunburst) & ages the plastic parts - especially the pickguards. And for me - it makes it so much easier to store them when you have quite a few... We moved house last year & it would have been a total nightmare if I'd not had case for all my basses. But it would be nice to have them all out ready to play - maybe I'll invest in one of those touring guitar racks...
  12.
Myspace is awful, particularly now since they've "redesigned" it. For hosting music, I'd recommend Bandcamp - it's lossless and you can sell your music directly from the site.
+1 for Bandcamp.
  13.
I'd be interested to kow what result you get as I want to do the same but I'd prefer the replacement black plate to have the T'bird logo on it.
+1 I got a black one from the US for my T-Bird...and I really like it. BUT - would so much prefer to have one with the logo on... I contacted Gibson in the US to see if they would supply them - but no go. I'm sure someone could 'clean up' if they could supply one.

  16. Oooh... That's lovely Happy Jack. Can I ask where you got the hard case from - I've been trying to find one for my Senator Bass for ages without much success...
  17. That's great - many thanks for posting.
  18.
Isn't this seller somehow related to Tuneomatic? He's that guy in California (I think) who seems to have a constant supply of vintage Fenders that he sells for obscene prices.
Yep. They are the same infamous eBay 'character'.
  19.
Heard the news yesterday and actually felt quite devastated...My thoughts went to him a lot more than I thought yesterday night. My non-bass playing friends don't understand the incredible loss but for me it's really losing a bass hero and someone who had such a huge influence on my playing. No one ever played like Karn...such a unique and original voice...even those weird slides sounded natural when they came out of his hands. A small comfort to know that someone like him might be no longer amongst us but that for the rest of my life his legacy will pop up everytime I pick up the fretless and a small part of his style shows up in one of my lines (not half as good as he could but sometimes I'm already pleased with that)
+1000. Such sad news.
