1.
Personal stuff but.. It was a definite intention for me after going to see the Clash for the first time and watching Simonon throwing his bass around and looking that cool, how could you not want in!.. ......I was a big Public Image Ltd /Jah Wobble fan as well, bass was where it was (and still is) at for me. Thats all it took for a young impressionable 15 year old to get hooked on trying to playing bass. The Clash PIL
+1 Paul Simonon. Never wanted to play anything else but bass - why would you?

 3. Guy from another band (he is actually a friend) comes up to me after the gig 'The vocals weren't loud enough out front' so I ask him if it was like that all the way through the set? 'Yes'. So you told the sound engineer then? ...blank expression... Yeah - thanks for your input. Very helpful.
 4. Yep - I'd love to know more about the P Bass as well - I'm sure there was a thread about it once on The FDP... Hi John, Good to see you on Basschat! Hope all is good with you. I still need to come over to show you my '60 Jazz... There's some great folks on here - hope you enjoy it. Cheers Jim
Just saw this post - fascinating. I just watched Herb Alpert on BBC 4 and his bass player, Pat Senatore, did indeed have a black precision with a painted headstock and a painted neck! This footage was around '66/ '67 Does anybody know anything about this amazing piece? Never seen a matching neck from this period! Johnny
6. Just completed a very smooth & easy transaction with the legend that is Sibob! A great pleasure to see you again mate! Hope you enjoy the '71 P bass...
 7.
Bump.. are the afternoon rehearsals an issue?
I was thinking about replying to your post to mention that very issue... The Wednesday afternoon rehearsal thing is (from my experience anyway) VERY unusual - if not bizarre. As the vast majority of non-professional bass players - i.e. all of us who have a 'normal' day job(!) would effectively have to take a half day holiday from work every week of the year just to rehearse with your band. Which, in my case, would leave me with NO holiday days left from work! I can just imagine trying to explain that one to my long-suffering Mrs!!! So...it shouldn't really be a surprise that you're not getting any responses!
 8. Yes - I think you're spot-on! They look identical to me. Many thanks hillbillydeluxe!
Vintage Hagstrom.
9. I've got this set of old machine heads - I'm pretty sure that they came off a Gretsch bass... And help with confirming their ID would be much appreciated! Thanks!
 10. *** SOLD *** (sold on eBay) Focusrite OctoPre Dynamic + ADAT card - 8 channel Mic Pre/compressor with ADAT Optical out Ideal for adding 8 extra channels to a DAW set-up via the ADAT optical link (which is what I used it for) so you can track a whole band live for example, or mic up a complete drum kit. NB: This isn't the cheaper 'LE' version - it's the more expensive version with a compressor on every channel. Only looking to sell because I've upgrade to an expensive high-end unit from Audient. In very good condition, just a little bit of 'rack rash' were the unit was mounted in a flight case. Comes complete with all the original packaging. One just went for £340 on eBay. I'm looking for £295 shipped. Or cash on collection with a discount! (I live close to J10 M40)

8 channel of Focusrie Mic preamps
ADAT card to give 24-bit digital connection to your DAW
The first two channels also feature phase reverse, as well as unbalanced 1/4” jack inputs on the front for quick and easy, DI-free plug-in of your bass or guitar
Word Clock connector
Compressor on each channel - the compressor/limiter circuit provides each channel with compression, which morphs into limiting to avoid critical ‘overs’ when recording digitally
switchable 48V phantom power on each channel
high-pass filter on each channel
Read the 'Sound on Sound' review here And here's some blurb from Focusrite: Providing eight pristine discrete channels of Focusrite Class A mic pre and compression, OctoPre routes directly to any digital audio workstation via analogue outputs or the 24-bit, 96kHz A/D converter. Each channel also features a revolutionary compressor / limiter circuit, providing a warm-sounding compressor, which morphs into a brick wall limiter to avoid those critical overs, ensuring total control over all eight channels. The mic pres featured in OctoPre those featured elsewhere in the award winning Focusrite Platinum range. They are a transistor-based Class A design utilising the same full-bandwidth philosophy as the legendary Red and ISA mic pres, ensuring detail and clarity without colouration. The first two 'super channels' also feature phase reverse, as well as TRS jack inputs on the front fascia for quick and easy, DI-free instrument plug-in. Output can be either analogue or digital; choices include 8 balanced analogue outputs, or an optional A/D, (8 AES, S/PDIF and ADAT lightpipe digital outputs.) An external Wordclock input is also provided (BNC connector.) The AES-EBU and S/PDIF format outputs all operate at up to 24bit /96kHz and can run simultaneously with the lightpipe outputs, giving up to 16 channels of digital output for sample rates of 44.1 and 48kHz, at 16, 20 or 24 bit dithered. With Class A Focusrite processing and almost all the interface options known to man, the Platinum Octopre is the perfect partner for any Pro Tools system or any other Digital audio workstation, making high quality, multi-channel recording easy. Equally it could be utilised as an instant location recording solution, or as an additional set of mic pres for any analogue or digital console, or hard disk recorder.
 11.
5th November is my birthday. Why did you have to post this! Now if it had been 5th November 1957 that would have been my date of birth and I would have had to do something drastic to acquire this bass. All the best with the sale.
Just to ease your GAS a little bit... The '5' in the date code doesn't mean the 5th of November - '5' is the model code for a Precision. So that neck code translates as: Precision Bass - made in November of 1964 - C width. Mmmm...Lovely bass! Have a bump!
 12. This seller is quickly acquiring legendary status on eBay - and everything he sells has the unmistakable aura of 'not to be trusted'. It's certainly worth checking out his listings for their entertainment value - but you'd be well advised to think very carefully before investing in one of his 'vintage investments'!
 13.
AmpliTube 3.5 Custom Shop has just been released.... and it's now free for everyone. 15.
Naaa, leave it on and get it played...what's gonna happen to it?, it's already knackered lol. If you do take it off, as mentioned earlier, screw it to something, otherwise it'll shrink more....a good reason to just leave it on I think Si
+1 If you do replace the pickguard - it's vital that you store it screwed to a flat piece of wood. And then keep it somewhere dark... Lovely bass. You just can't top a pre-CBS Precision.
 16. That's cracking - one of the best things I've heard posted on here....best of luck with the band.

 19.
whats the point..who you gonna sell em to?
No big problem for people like this - who have also specialised in faking vintage amps & instruments for many years - to alter serial numbers & other details... And when you are well established international vintage guitar dealers - there's all sorts of people on the other side of the world you can sell them to...
 20.
Can someone tell me if I have the basic jist right. Someone goes to somebodies house who owns a collection of Vintage guitars. Somebodies house gets broken into and guitars nicked. The nicked guitars turn up in someones shop for sale.
Not so much all turned up in one guitar shop...the 'characters' we're talking about owned a whole chain of (in-famous) guitar shops in the UK (& still do own shops - together with a very famous amp brand) & were (in fact still are!) very big players in the global vintage instrument trade & therefore perfectly positioned to make a large number of expensive vintage guitars 'disappear' into the market place...
 21. Words fail me on this one...! It's so bad you could almost be forgiven for thinking it was a spoof!

 23. I've played bass in a band with Chris Leslie - one of the nicest & most talented musicians you could ever hope to meet...and he even makes his own violins!
I went to college in Newark with Chris Leslie. Heck of a fiddle player even then. The folk sessions we had in the pubs were amazing... I was playing guitar in DADGAD in those days, don't any more... I've got several of the classic Fairport LPs but have never seen them live! Really must put that right.
