1. The Hope Six Demolition Project - PJ Harvey.
2. This thread has led me to Spotifying Sandinista! which I'd never heard before. I kind of expected to not be into it from what I've read. Bloody excellent! It's the first album I've played for a while that my wife actually likes as well 😄
3. The making of documentary dvd in the deluxe edition is an eye-opener! The producer was really out there. Has to be seen. The bass tone on the title track is one of my favourite ever. The reason I bought a Dimarzio Model P!
4. I love a happy ending.
5. Bear it, but for the full agreed fee. If the LL really can't see why he should pay you in full, ask him if he'd also be happy to reduce the price of drinks to your followers by a quarter
6.
Trump/Farage
😂 The Velvet Underground
7. I've been trying out lots of different P bass pickups recently and these two are up for grabs: Dimarzio Model P in cream - GONE. Seymour Duncan SPB-1 - £35 posted Both pickups were new, installed in my bass using solderless connections, tested at home then removed the same day so they're in mint condition
8. Man: "MORE??!!!" Boy: "cowbell"
9. The drum break on Don't Look Back In Anger by Oasis used to drive me nuts when it was on the radio every hour without fail. To me it sounds like somebody throwing a cardboard box down some stairs.
10. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Korg-GripTune-Clip-On-Guitar-Tuner/dp/B01BL54V4I I've got this tiny one in permanent situ on my fretless Precision. So small, light and accurate it's amazing. No flies on my intonation now either!
11.
BB King , Live And Well. Pick up a copy.
I was going to suggest this one too. Jerry Jemmott absolutely kills on it. The studio album Completely Well should be mandatory also!
12. Awesome thread 👏
13. Maybe sell the MM neck and buy a P graphite neck? Contact Status and see if you can exchange? Never know til you ask..
14. I went down this road once and a Dimarzio Model J wired in series in the neck position was as close I got. Close enough for me at the time.
15. I've just moved to D'addario EXL160BT (the 120-50 set) to tune down to C natural on my fretless, and I have to say I'm very impressed! Perfect feel and volume from every string, easy to play too. I didn't have to change the intonation at all, they were fine luckily. Not bad considering I had Labella Low Tension Flexible Flats tuned to EADG on before them! I only had to give the truss rod a quarter turn tighten and lower the saddles to 2.5mm at the 17th note (no frets!). They are holding tune very well. Very pleased, nice price too!
16.
Nothing like a Fender...
Yep. I only ordered a pickup, a '63 Pure Vintage Precision pup, and it is dead as a dodo. The solder joints look good, it seems that someone just forgot to magnetise the magnets.. Really. Waiting now to see if I can send it back and how much it will cost me to return it to the States. Smart. Ordered a Model P to replace it as Dimarzio have never let me down.
17. Sold already sorry. They are voiced deeper than TIs, thumpier but still superb for chordal work for example. They feel stiffer than TIs as in not rubber band-like but are really easy to play. If I ever need a bass in standard tuning in future I will buy another set without hesitation.
18. Bought these in August and they are very very nice flats indeed. That gorgeous Labella sound and easy on your hands. Perfectly balanced and with light use. Cut for my fretless Precision, so no fret 'dents' at all. I'm moving them on as I've downtuned my fretless to C natural on rounds for the project I'm currently doing. £20 posted Thanks.
19. As long as I actually get paid, I don't mind how it comes. Hopefully it would lead to further paid gigs (especially if other bands are turning them down).
20.
Set-wise, how about some other famous instrumental tunes from films ? Theme from 'Get Carter', some John Barry ?
I love the Get Carter theme. Plenty to choose from on the Bullitt soundtrack by Lalo Schifrin too.
21. Bruce Thomas. I picked up a cheap copy of 'Get Happy' (Elvis Costello and the Attractions) after reading about it on here somewhere. F***ing amazing band! Everything about BT's sound does get me very happy indeed.
22. Drummer. My whole approach to bass playing has mostly been about playing drums on a guitar anyway.
23. Bass nirvana, to me, depends on whatever else is going on in the music at the time, and how intelligently the bassist has chosen his/her notes. It could be the simplest thing that shows that they're listening to and playing off their musical surroundings, making the music better. We're all capable of reaching bass nirvana if we listen and think wisely. If we're talking about the pinnacle of 'Olympic' bass playing, then Jaco's playing on 'Havona' with Weather Report is perfection to me.
