1. Couple of glaring Jaco omissions added
2. Out of the two you mention in particular, the answer is the new American Standard. They are very very good quality P basses right now. You know that you love P basses. If you try one and it feels really good to you then resale value probably won't come into it. It's hardly going to be a leap into the unknown.
3. Dave bought a nice set of Sadowsky flats off me and was super cool on the PMs as I couldn't post right away. He was very patient, a great chap to deal with. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again, either buying or selling. Many thanks Dave.
4. DR Hi-beam short scale 45-105 would suit you I reckon. Round core, so flexible and easy to play. Decent gauge for a sensible action, great string to string balance also. Best thing is they sound bloody fabulous! (short scale P bass user here) http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/strings-c1/dr-handmade-hi-beam-stainless-steel-bass-45-105-short-scale-p1208
5. Anvil! is definitely worth a watch. It's genuinely heartwarming. Although I'm not into metal I loved it.
6. Wow this is brilliant!! I've added Fine Flow by The Entrance Band. Paz Lenchantin on bass. Can't wait to wade through the whole playlist. Plenty there I've never heard of before.
7.
See you there at 11
I'll bring the tequila \m/
8. Sadowsky flats gone!
9. Brand new set of Sadowsky Black Label Flats, 5 string set 100-80-60-40 with 125 and 130 B strings included. Brand new, uncut, unused. Bought two months ago. They are made by Labella for Sadowsky and tonewise land between D'addario Chromes and Deep Talkin' Labellas. Top quality flats. I recently withdrew these as I wanted to try them sometime but I'm skint so needs must. £25 posted. SOLD. Picato flats, 4 string set 100-45 used but only for a week max at home. Proper old school thumpers these even brand new. If I was playing in a band at present I would keep them as I can tell they would be a cracking live string. Cut for a P bass. £10 posted.
10. Mike bought a fretless P neck from me and was a great chap to deal with throughout. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again, a pleasure. Many thanks Mike!
11. For me, punch is where clarity and fundamental meet with the added short decay of the notes.
12. Brand new still in the box 5 string set of DR nickel Lowriders. £30 posted.
13. Revelation RPB-65 is a great playing and sounding bass. I had the fretless version. http://www.allegromusic.co.uk/shop/4-string/revelation--rpb-65-/
14.
I am 41. When I was 16 I used to love this, I had it on VHS and cassette. They were a strange band in retrospect, after King For a Day I tuned out but I still enjoyed watching this tonight. I loved Mr Bungle too! So who were your favourite band at 16?
I loved this!! Wore out the VHS myself, and a couple of the audio tapes too. Bloody excellent!! I was actually 18 myself as I'm a couple of years older than you. So at 16, I was high on The Smiths (still am really). Another big shout out for Andy Rourke: http://youtu.be/4cAs5RtWl44
15. Sorry for the zombie thread revival but I'm really interested in how this tale unfolded after all the good advice given here. What was the solution markbass555? Do tell!
16. Here's a nice fretless neck for someone. It's off my new Revelation P bass as it's too slim for my shovel hands so I've bought a chunky Allparts fretless neck for my bass now. The heel is standard Fender fit. It's 40mm wide at the nut and 60s Fender slim front to back. Beautiful rosewood fingerboard which I've only played with flats on so no snail trails at all. The maple neck is also unmarked and like new. Great finish, very resonant neck. Edit: the side dots are where the notes actually are for ease of playing. The tuners are solid and hold their tuning perfectly, the action of them is consistent from tuner to tuner. How Revelation make such great instruments at this price point is completely beyond me! Yours for £45 posted. Thanks.
17. That looks really funky! Me likey! Congratulations man.
18. I personally preferred Fender flats over Chromes. But when it comes to a 5 string set, Chromes win hands down. The Fender B was too flubby and didn't sit well at all with the rest of the set, the Chromes on the other hand were perfect.
