1. Thanks lowdown, I used the search first but nothing showed up 🙄
 2. Can't see this posted anywhere so I thought I'd share as the video made me chuckle... http://thehardtimes.net/2017/01/03/watch-lowriders-bass-player-support-group/
 3. Interesting listen Nick with very little reference to modern rock/pop (I don't recall a bass guitar being mentioned). It concentrates on the physics of sound and importance of the bass part in the development of music. This, however, may describe my playing better...😉 http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/5C7VQGPHs31YJPPYfLP3X81/when-does-noise-become-music
 4.
Do you know, when I pressed "buy it now" for £26.99 free shipping I thought "that was too easy" Such is life.
Just had the same experience after reading this thread. After initial slow 'lost in post' response I was offered a refund or the Mooer pure octave for the same price. I accepted and it was delivered next day. It's tiny but seems well made and sounds good so far (only played with for about half hour) and seems to track low well (I only have old zoom 506 multi fx to compare to though). Most presets are a bit too 'novelty' for me but it does what I wanted it to well (to my ears) but not used in a band situation yet.
 5. Vintage Trouble at the Forum Kentish Town on Tuesday. Can't believe I'm saying it but the sound was a bit 'bass-heavy' to start with but a brilliant gig nonetheless, masterclass in 'working a room' and a surprise guest duet with Paloma Faith singing 'I'd Rather Go Blind' Excellent evening's entertainment 😀
 6. No not really. I quite like blues music that she refers to as 'blues sh*t'. I can generally listen to anything that's been played rather than programmed (ooh controversial!) but she'll often walk in the room and say 'what the hell are you listening to?'. But to answer the question - I have taste... 😉
 7.
We talked about doing Sparks ' this town ain't big enough for both of us' but it never got further than that.
We sometimes close the first set with that and it does indeed go down well (and fun to play)
 8.
Hal Leonard R&B Bass Bible has a mix of Motown and Stax/Atlantic material in tab and notation.
+1
 9.
I really can't work out why they aren't HUGE by now...
Shh! Keep it to ourselves! 😉
 10.
They are one of the originals and the world will be a sadder and less enjoyable place when these guys and the others of their time stop gigging.
+1
 11.
Love this band; great front man, great players and a cool retro vibe. We used to cover 'Blues Hand Me Down' of theirs in my last band, and though most punters didn't know either the song or the band, it always went down great!
Great tune and I bet it went down well. Sometimes we cover 'Not Alright By Me' and we get the same reaction.
 12.
Did anyone realised that both the drummer and the guitar player look like Viggo Mortesen the actor??
well... the guitarist is Swedish and the drummer acted in 'Cheers'
 13.
Guitarist from our band was there said it was great or "jizz worthy" as he put it!
From their catalogue: 'You Better Beleive It'! 😉
 14. They've been supporting ACDC around Europe and will be in North America soon. I've seen them a few times now and was blown away every time. Met them too and you won't meet a nicer, humble bunch of guys. Thoroughly recommend catching them live. The recordings are good, but seeing them live is something else! Follow them online and become a Troublemaker!
 15. Wasn't shown live on beeb TV but was streamed live. What a performance! http://youtu.be/Iu8Ia8P-qYk
 16. DR drop tuning strings tuned down to C worked for me
 17. First bass line too! http://youtu.be/VSaDPc1Cs5U
 18.
All cows eat grass, dude, all cows eat grass.
And Good Boys Deserve F-A... 😉
 19. I don't read notation either but a simple chart like this should help: http://www.teoria.com/res/images/reference/bass-clef-notes.gif It shows the note values (lowest at the bottom) so shouldn't take long to work out notes (the sequence repeats above and below...). Like you say, once you know the notes you'll be able to decide where on the neck you play it. If a line is marked with a '#' (sharp) or 'b' (flat - ok it's not a 'b' but it looks like one) then the note is one fret higher or lower. I'm sure someone else will be along soon to explain/steer you better than I...
 20.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cq2A7M8XbU0
Nice one Mr Rock!
 21.
Had one but didn't like it, as my bass wasn't perpendicular enough, fussy git that I am.
Agree. I prefer an erect one but as its small it doesn't really notice! 😉
 22. Small compact and does the trick: http://www.herculesstands.com/guitars/GS402BB.html Only thing is the bass leans back quite a bit so with a bass on doesn't save much room but does when it's empty.
 23.
far less gangs of axe murderers than I expected
Appearances can be deceptive 😉 Back up to date. This is a great thread!
