1.
Could someone please explain the right way to coil leads? I try to pack them away nicely but when I unravel them the knot gremlin has always visited.
summat like this - if you get your coil size right, you'll end up with the jacks close together. Bind them there (I use velcro) and they won't interfere with other cables in your bag/case.
2. Don't smoke in bed and never eat yellow snow! Spare leads are an absolute must and I label all my cables with a bit of blue insulation tape (or sometimes paint) at both ends of all cables so I can see if some other bugger is trying to nick them!
3. I'm really happy with my current set up but then I'm not someone who rushes into change for change sake, generally replacing/aquiring equipment as needed rather than just wanted. Before I think about replacing/upgrading I'd need to be gigging a lot more often than I currently do. I had my previous set up for 16 years, only upgrading about six months ago (partly as a response to discovering this site!). For me at least, I know that any head-turning GAS lust that inevitably hits every once in a while would be better countered by putting the same or more effort into improving my technique and theory.
4.
I've seen NBZ loads of times over the years. Great player. Fabulous tone. A fantastic show man. T
Me too. Great band. Saw the original lineup with Brian Bethel and numerous times with Mr McAvoy.
5. ROAR!!! Born in the 80's (but left its feet in the 70's!)
6. Great day yesterday. Being my first bash I wasn't sure what to expect but thoroughly enjoyed it an what a great bunch of people you are to meet! Cheers and look forward to the next one.
7. Hoping to get to the South East Bass Bash on saturday and can bring this along if anyone is interested?
8.
Any chance of splitting? And is that £150 for both? Any Idea on weight? Also any close up pictures of the front panel/ any notable nicks? (Though it does infact look to be in great condition!) / What are the frequencies of the graphic EQ? (No need to answer directly if you can get a close up picture up, can only really see 40, 80 and 100) Thanks in advance, Sorry for bombarding you with questions but it'll help your sale either way!
Thanks AttitudeCastle Yes, £150 for both or trade for a 5-string (Squier jazz or OLP MM?). Postage/courier extra but will travel to meet half way within reason. The Graphic sliders are (l-r): 40Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz, 350Hz, 700Hz, 1k4Hz, 2k6Hz, 5kHz, 10kHz and 15kHz. Parametric eq (top dial): 250Hz, 300Hz, 400Hz, 600Hz, 1kHz and 2k5Hz with ±10 boost/cut Gain bottom dial. (both smooth sweeps not notched). It really hasn't seen much use in the last 15 years, maybe 15 gigs with weekly rehearsals for the first year or so I had it. Used in the studio a couple of times. Other than that very occasional use until around a year ago. Since then I've done another 5-6 gigs. I've never had any issues with it. I got the head serviced earlier this year as I'd started using it again. Some of the toggle switches on the front were replaced but only because they were bent, other than that no work was needed. head - 13Kg cab - 32Kg I'd rather see it go together but offers to split will also be considered. I've replaced the head pic with a hi-res version Cab has a few scrapes and nicks which for its age I'd describe as good condition, while the head is in very good condition.
9. Sunday bump. Any serious offers or trades considered. Only moving on as I've got a new rig and this just isn't getting used.

11. Sadly it's time to say farewell to my trusty old Laney 150W Pro Bass head and matching 4ohm 4x10 cab. I've had them for around 15 years (most of which they haven't been used) and think they were 5-6 years old when I got them. The heads got 11 band eq, hi and lo parametric eq, pre-shape, limiter, effects loops etc. Serviced this year with no problems. Good condition for age, a few nicks in the covering but all the drivers work fine and are the fane originals. Nice n loud and never had any trouble being heard in 4 and 5 piece bands and with all the eq a good range of sounds can be achieved. Black denim covers and kettle lead included. Interested in a trade for a 5 string OLP MM or Squier Jazz, sansamp DI or £150ono for sale. the manual is at: http://www.laney.co.uk/manuals/PB150%20Man...20Issue%201.pdf

13. Please can anyone with a Trace elliot AH250SMX amp head spare a couple of minutes to let me know its overall dimensions including handles and feet. I've got a AH300-12 and want to know if it'll fit in an SMX case. Maybe I should have put this in another category but if anyone can help I'd appreciate it.
14.
As far as I can make out, they use the same audio capsules. Certainly the quality is pretty much identical. The H2 has the ability to record front / behind / surround, whereas the Q3 HD is front only, but playing in rock bands I find the option that works for me is front anyway. The business of the backline in your rehearsal room being distributed around the room probably isn't as important as you think. Bass isn't directional, and drums not particularly so. Put the H2 / Q3 against the wall fairly high up near the bass and drums, with the guitars facing the unit's mics, and you should get decent results. An absolute must with these small recorders is one of those flexible tripod thingies, e.g. http://www.play.com/Gadgets/Gadgets/4-/143...19|prd:14397719 The recorders all have camera-type tripod sockets on the bottom, so it's dead easy to attach them to light fittings, curtain poles, etc. Not much use with the Q3 if you want to use the video option, but perfect as an audio recorder and much harder for punters to nick at gigs.
Thanks for that. Already got a Joby - they are fantastic. I was favouring the H2 but not so sure now. As the audio quality sounds similar, in your opinion is the video on the Q3hd worth the extra cash? also, can the screen be turned off for more covert recording/prolonged battery life?
15.
I'll try that one during the week - the Q3-HD is now in the studio and I've brought my H2 home, so I'll run up some "proper" soundclips maybe tomorrow evening.
How does the audio on the Q3hd compare to the H2? I've been considering both, mainly for recording my bands rehearsals. The rehearsal studio we use has it's own backline set up around the room with the obvious place to record right in the middle. Looking at the marketing material and YT reviews of both units, the Q3hd looks like it might be better when facing the sound source wherea the H2 can go in the middle as it can record all around. Obviously the Q3hd has video which reports vary from ok to poor but that's not my main concern but if the Q3hd copes well with 'surround sound' then the video may be a useful bonus and worth the extra expense. Assuming the area infront of the Q3hd mic capsule dominates the recording, could things be improved by placing it horizontally either facing up or down?
16. That takes me back, a V-S Bassamp was my first 'real amp' too! Got a mint 100W combo version (I think it was badged '115 Combo'?) second hand in around 83/84 and used it as my main amp until around '95. Could get a good range of sounds (inc Bass Boost and 'valve sound' controls) and for a 15 it always seemed to cut through and the green lights were uber cool! I had to replace the driver (direct from Celestion) but the amp and cab were so well built even the vinyl cover was still intact when I sold it! Mate had the pa head version too and for some trivia: HH was also the amp of choice found at the other end of Wilko Johnson's (Dr Feelgood) curly red lead whose son later used his 100W combo as a bass amp. I stumbled on this site a while a go - worth a look for anyone wanting to reminisce http://www.hhamplification.co.uk/ampcom.asp#
17. Thanks Ghost_Bass and baz Makes sense to me and nice to know I wasn't missing something obvious! cheers
18. Noob to BC but hope someone can help. I've been happily running a 4ohm 4x10 into an old Laney Probass (150W) head for years. The head has two speaker out sockets (min load 4ohm) and it doesn't make any difference which socket I connect the cab to. Now I've just bought two trace cabs - 2x10+horn and 1x15 (both 200W@8ohm). When I dem'd them they were hooked up into an head with a single speaker connection into the 2x10 then the 1x15 connected via the link socket on the 2x10. I'm looking to upgrade the head for something beefier (like a trace ah300smx) but in the meantime my query is: Is it best to connect as above using the speaker link sockets or should I take a speaker lead from each socket on the head to each speaker (or won't it make a blind bit of difference)? If using the link is there any advantage/disadvantage to which cab is connected first (both cabs have input and link sockets, either jack or xlr)? and while I'm at it, I've only ever owned kit with jack connections (other than mic to pa) so is there any advantage to using xlr over jack connections?
