1. Our typical day (10-6ish) gets us three tracks. 5 piece band recorded live (in glorious analogue) with guide vocal. As long as a good drum take is down, the bass, guitars and keys can be redone/dropped in if necessary then extra guitar/key tracks if required. Vocals and bv, mixed and mastered. £180 all in! And the pleasure of working with Jim Riley at Ranscombe Studios
2. Bought a Bass Crybaby from Rich yesterday. Pleasure to deal with, great communications, very well packaged, excellent condition and very quick delivery. Thank you very much!
3. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
4.
Today in no particular order. John Entwistle Bruce Foxton Duck Dunn James Jamerson Bruce Thomas
Today I totally agree and in that order too!
5. Love mine, the only thing I'd add is that the bass leans back further than other stands I have so while being very light and compact, in use you won't gain any extra space on a (small pub) stage.
6. Can't you just record songs separately? We record our rehearsals (not necessarily every song) on a zoom h2 so just start it for each song which creates a new file each time. If we do leave it running I split/trim the files on the h2 itself.
7. Sorry yeh, you'd need an extended keyboard for that. An alternative is to put the cursor in the right place, hold down the shift key while tapping the right cursor key to highlight to text to be deleted then use the backspace key. Holding the shift and alt key together will highlight text a word at a time.
8.
Probably my favourite new band in years
You Better Believe It!!
9. Move the curser to a point between songs then use the 'split' command (edit menu). Copy the trimmed song into a new Garageband file, save/export to itunes then distribute. AFAIK all keyboards locate the 'delete' key right above the 'return' key. Certainly all of the macs that I own or have owned do.
10. Saw them at Electric Ballroom in Camden last night - amazing gig. Totally entertaining, soulful with so much energy and really tight playing. I love their album but they're just blinding live.
11.
I don`t honestly think I could seperate one specific track from all of the ones I love featuring a Precision. If pushed, my warm-up track is Pump it Up by Elvis Costello, with Bruce Thomas delivering an amazing bassline, with great Precision tone:
+1
12. Some future buyers may be particular and not like it so wouldn't buy. If you do paint it you could mask off a small box around the number so that the original number remains exposed. If you do, I'd take photos beforehand if you need proof at a later date.
13. Any DIY shed. Can usually see it a mile off - it's the purple liquid in a clear bottle near the paint brushes. If you're making a tube I posted earlier you'll need two bottles.
14. Bought a five way Trace Elliot footswitch from Will, great condition, communications and quick delivery. Really nice guy to deal with! Thanks again Dave
15. +1 for meths. I recommend making one of these. In addition, I'd thread a short length of drinking straw/tubing over the headstock windings to straighten and bind which makes getting the strings into the tube much easier. Also, run the strings through a clean cloth/piece of kitchen roll as you withdraw them from the tube so you don't splash meths about. Works a treat
16. Bought OLP 5 String Stingray from Dave. Good communication, well packaged. Thanks again.
17.
...I bought the digital recorder... ...and originally put together some light boxes, then more recently the two LED panels... ...I wish the others would show some interest in adding to the show sometimes.
Me too. That's what sets us bass players apart!
18. We've been cooking under a few R80 coloured spots for pub gigs but have recently got a couple of Visage par56 LED floor cans from here which are great (and stay cool). They do the same Kam package as the OP's link and also foot controlled sets and were very helpful when I phoned. (I don't have any affiliation to them).
19. Hope this won't tempt fate but I've never needed a spare due to a problem. I play in standard tuning but I take a second bass tuned down to C with DR drop tuning strings and that's only used for one song but if push comes to shove it means I have a spare on stage. If that song's not in the set I still take a standard tuned spare but I've never needed to use it. I like the idea of using more than one bass but actually hate having to change mid-set.
20. Saw 9BZ at Borderline last night, fantastic gig and they were all on form. Got to meet them all afterwards and after shaking hands normally I got Gerry to shake hands left handed to see if anything rubs off!! He was playing his black musicman through a trace - great sound and brilliant playing with fingers (mainly one just like Jameson). If you get the chance, go and see them and good luck to him in the future.
21. First bass owned: Kay Rickenbacker copy (as regularly advertised in NME c'81-82) Go-to bass: Fender Precision Your bass: MM Stingray 4
