1. listened twice through desktop computer speakers, definitely in my mind its decending decending accending accending... could explain why when trying to work out a song it can sometimes be a struggle finding the next note.
2. I had the same until about a year ago and always beat the drummer into submission! Lot of bang for your buck!
3. If you get chance to see him live, Orlando Wright (Buddy Guy live band) is well worth a watch and listen. But regardless of the bass, just see Buddy Guy!
4.
Then I joined BassChat
^this! For nearly thirty years BC (pre basschat!) I owned (and played) only one or two basses at any given time, always strung with rotosounds and the acquisition rate was extremely slow. My stingray had been a long term goal and is my main gigging and recording bass but rarely comes out of it's case at home. The flatwound precision (bought in New York) was my main bass before the stingray but now is my main home bass. A pointy headstocked Aria which I've had since '83 (my second bass) was my only bass until the early 90's.Its now strung with DR DDTs in drop C and still occasionally gets gigged for the odd song. Since discovering basschat I now have five! I've now got a 5 string OLP MM copy and a Squire VM fretless jazz just to see what the fuss about fives and fretless was about and very happy I am with all five. If it wasn't for the drop tuning making use of the Aria it would probably be retired but I wouldn't get rid of it after all this time. If I was brave enough to put flats on the stingray (except I like the zing) I'm pretty sure that I could make do with just one bass for what I normally play... But then life would be less interesting... I'd say that I only NEED one bass but in terms of WANT - at the moment I feel I've got all my bases covered! (sorry!)
5. saw that too and instantly thought he'd miraculously got it back. It sounds great too - saw them on Saturday night in that very room - phenominal band.
6.
Sorry but you raised this at eight this morning and have sent an e-mail by three this afternoon. IMHO that's not enough time to sort out how you really feel about this and to let you temper cool and your brain take over. However what is done is done and I just hope you haven't burnt your chances of doing what (down the road) you realise you should/could have done. Cooling off periods are a great idea and give everyone time to step back before something drastic happens. I wonder how many bands have split because they've had band meetings straight after a crap gig rather than twenty four hours later? Steve
This thread has been an entertaining read with some wise points made (especially regarding communication) but if everyone took heed of Oggiesnr's well made post, a lot of stress and resentment would be avoided. I'm sure you were hurt and angry but 'counting to ten' and then talking directly and openly to your friend/guitarist/bandleader rather than publically voicing your feelings would have avoided a potentially disastrous situation occurring (plenty of guitarists read Basschat!). Sounds like all you've really lost is the pride and bragging rights associated with being on the recording. Remember that you were part of the process getting there and, as has been pointed out elsewhere, eleventh hour changes in the studio (or anywhere) for the benefit of the song (or anything) and subsequent reworking often leave someone feeling a little frustrated/deflated. It doesnt mean that you didn't contribute or are being passed over/ignored. At least you still have the opportunity to participate in the future. Glad it's all resolved but we always need to learn from our experiences..
7. done! and good luck getting it published
8. Its often said: 'You can't please all the people all the time' but I'd say Andertons is pretty damn close! I've had great on-line and telphone service and as for the shop... wow! (if you were lucky enough to be treated with a visit to Hamleys toy shop in London as a child, you'll know exactly what I mean!) Another happy big kid customer.
9. perfect example of the cuckoo clock choreography!
10. and the rest... big thanks to wal4string
11. Thanks to wal4string for supplying these transcriptions and posting them here on his behalf.
12. Yes it would be great to see them together again. I've not managed to get to one yet but they're listed as sharing the stage at Lee Brilleaux memorials on Canvey. Seeing them together on camera and the subsequent success of Oil City Confidential I'd have thought it would have happened by now if it was going to. Wilco commands a higher profile and bigger gigs since the film so I wouldn't expect more than maybe future memorial gigs or maybe to receive an overdue industry gong. Be great if they did though and its always good to dream!
13. When I was younger and better toned I was pert. So I suppose I must be an 'ex'pert now...
14. remember being chuffed picking out Batman (the Jam version) when I was a kid.
15. Bilbo and mep - I didn't expect bass-god suggestions as starters! Revisiting Pino/Paul Young is what made me decide to get a fretless. What I know of Jaco's stuff is the seemingly more complex highlights but I'll check out the songs you've mentioned. Thanks. Wal4string - thanks, pm'd
16. I've done that allready but am looking to use it as a way of broadening my repertoire
17. So after nearly 30 years of playing frets, I've taken the plunge and bought myself a fretless for no other reason than fancying noodling around making 'mwah' sounds! What I'd like are a few fretless tune suggestions that I can learn to play. I'm not bothered about genre but preferably fairly simple tunes to start with. Over to you...
18. Booooooom

We're back...

Thanks to all involved for getting it sorted so promptly but please don't let it happen again - my recent productivity has gone through the roof!!
19. Gutted. Lost my mojo for today now RIP
20. Saw this on facebook. Had a quick search and can't find it posted but appologies if it is. Maybe a long shot but if you spot any dodgy listings and perhaps some of the further afield members can keep an eye out. <start> While in Montreal today, we had TWO Guitars STOLEN, One of which was our Bass Players custom 57'RI PBass along with his In Ear Molds that are useless to anyone else. PLEASE, if you have ANY information on the whereabouts, please email [email protected] . NO questions asked. We can even buy you a drink (after we buy him 6) :-) Update of our STOLEN PBass, the serial number is V196165 and official Fender desc.is "American Vintage '57 Precision Bass Maple Fretboard, White Blonde. Thanks <ends>
21.
I've heard good things about Ranscombe. Very cheap too!
by the way, please don't think that the tunes on myspace in my sig were done there - THEY WEREN'T!! - they are homemade demos recorded when we started and we haven't got around to updating/redoing them . Everything we've done at Ranscombe are originals and hope to have an album ready later in the year
