1.
These under string radius gauges - isn't it just as easy/accurate to measure from say 12th fret to underside of string from 2.5 mm E, graduating down to 2.0 mm G (or whatever your preference) ultimately following the curve of the board or am I missing something in all these years of successfully doing my own basses???
If you´ve been successfull, there´s not much left for us to say it´s all about personal preferences. Sorry if i brought up the string radius gauges as i use them only as part of the process. In fact i adjust the radius of the strings first, only then i adjust the action.
  2.
Agreed. Far too many to choose from. Here are but a few....
When i read the thread title i thought this would be almost impossible, but then, this song came to my mind... amazing basslines by JPJ
  3. The business card does the job, but i like to use several tools when doing my setups I use feeler gauges, understring Radius Gauges, and astring action ruler
  4. Bilbo, sorry to desagree but i don't think quality is subjective. Aesthetics are, the choice of notes, the tone... No doubt he knows what he is doing. I think this kind of aproach lacks emotion but hey.. He's Just noodling

Ditto works perfectly Well here too.
  6. Obviously The guy dosen´t know how to behave. Honestly, i can imagine myself getting caught by surprise and not saying anything at the moment, but i would feel ashamed for complaining to the company when at the right moment i kept my mouth shut. IMO, The next time guy entered my place, and IF he even tried to touch my basses... i would give him the hint.
  7. Well, i only play with my fingers, but nowadays i play my basses fairly higher than a few years ago. Back then i cared a little more about aesthetical reasons, but now, i only care about how comfortably and how efficiently i can perform. This how it works for me:
  8.
The Jerzy Drozd guide is pretty good.
+1
  9. If the singer is the weakest link, why don't you guys try to convince him to get some lessons?
  10.
I imagine it makes folks feel better about their bass. That's a good thing right?
Well...i guess so! This might be a mather of self confidence, or the lack of it. Somehow the bass player who "rebrands" his instrument belives the small part of the musicians in the audience will perceived him as a better players because of the brand he´s playing. The truth is musicians love instruments and allways look for that. The question is...are we so critical about other players habilities before they even start to play, based on the brands they´re using? "hey..that´s a squire ...that guy is a beginer ... or ... the vintage fender... must be a top level pro.
  11. I would let them know that is not the best aproach, and probably things won´t sound great as you don´t know any of their songs. Anyway, if they insist, you´ve got to put them in the same situation you´re in. Play one of your own grooves a let the band andle it ... or just sugest a jam session to see how you´ll get along.
  12. I´ve been using a gruv gear solo strap neo (10cm wide).Comfort wise, it does a great job. It distibutes the weight very well and doesn´t have much grip. Before this i was using a planet waves (7.5cm wide) and the gruv gear is much more comfortable, specialy after a couple of hours. The dowsides: not cheap, and imo not the best design to adjust on the fly. Plus is a bit bulky.
  13.
I just use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment. Use a paintbrush for the bridge to free the dust so the vacuum can do the rest.
I also use this hi-tech solution
  14.
Not at all - the BDI-21 is like a Swiss Army Knife. You can use it to warm up your tone, go DI through the desk if you're amp fails and if you get taken short at a venue with poor facilities you can wipe your arse with it as well.

Do NOT buy a used BDI-21 from this man ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
15. Go for it! Either way, you´ll get out of it with a story to tell
  16. This year i asked Santa for a Warwick thumb bo5
  17.
Just checked mine. There is the standard amount of resistance in turning the knob that you would expect from any other quality pedal, the same as my other TC pedals. Have you removed the knob to see if the splines inside it are broken?
I haven`t removed the knob. I tried it but it didn´t came out so i gave up. i was afraid to damage the pot. I belive it´s the issue is with the pot and not the knob itself.
  18. I just received a B-stock TC Electronic spectracomp from Thomann. The thing is, the knob/pot feels very cheap and turns positition with very subtle touch. I compared it to my ditto looper, and the ditto feels way better, and stays in place.and you have to use the right amout of pressure to turn the knob. Anyone had this same experience? I`m i beeing picky? Even chepest pedal,( harley benton ultimate drive) knobs feel better tham this one. Should i retur it? Thanks in advance
  19. Had a similiar situation a couple of years ago with a guitar i ordered online. As soon as i got it delivered and found the blemishes, i took a few pictures and sent them to the seller. I was proposed to send it back or a discount that pleased me.
  20. Not Very often theese days but i play djembe. In fact it was the instrument that Led me to bass guitar about 20 years ago. At that time i played the guitar, and percussion brought me the idea of combining those two languages...bass
  21. Well, assuming that you´ll need to get a diferente pedal, and you´re on a budget, i would take a look in to the joyo/harley benton ultimate drive, or the bass big muff pi. Ultimate drive video with a epi eb: https://www.youtube....h?v=MBD2dCN_1NE
I would split the signal with an LS2 and dial in the distortion separately with a blend of clean to maintain the lows The feedback with hi gain distortion is always going to bite you unless you gate it off
That´s a good advice, but In this particular case, and since the pedal used can´t offer a proper distortion, i just can´t see how it woul benefit the overall sound. That would work great if you had a nice sound, but sacrificing the low end.
  22.
EBS Flat cables. Haven't had one go bad in 3 years.
I realy like the EBS cables too. They save a lot of space on my pedalborad without issues, flexible and sound great ... and they´re cheap. I´m also using the rockboard cables by warwick, and they have almost the same design. Both are great cables.
  23.
I have no idea what this gif is, but that YT clip is the perfect soundtrack for it.
that´s funny but doesn´t make it sound better. yuk!!
