Sorry, I realise that could have been misinterpreted, as indeed it was! If your amp can drive down to 4 ohms on each side, or 8 ohms bridged, and is 500W/ch into 4 ohms, 300W/ch into 8 ohms and 1000W/bridged into 8 ohms, the xxxW/ch ratings should be based on both channels being driven. If you're only driving one channel and the other channel is silent then I'd expect to get closer to the 600W into 4 ohms on that side as the power supply has lots of spare current capacity. My point is merely that if you have an amp which can't bridge into 4 ohms but you have a single 4 ohm cab, don't feel you're wasting the ability of the amp because the redundant power amp channel is actually contributing in that your amp has a power supply section twice as large as if it was a single channel 500W @ 4 ohms amp, hence it can get closer to doubling its 8 ohm power output when driving 4 ohms.
Surely the output power will be limited by the power supply rail voltage rather than the current?

Ashbory - No, The Other One, The Really Rare One
tauzero replied to Happy Jack's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
That'll be because they're rare. Very, very rare. Everybody loved them but after the initial run of 80, the machine that they were run off on didn't have any spare capacity so it all came to a grinding halt. Ah, like it says in the auction, in fact. I shall keep an eye on it but I suspect it would overstretch my piggybank. -
As a further note, since this thread has come back to life - I've had to have the sides off a couple of times and what I've done to seal it is get some 2mm x 10mm adhesive neoprene tape off That Ebay and put that round the edge of the main body. It's only adhesive on one side so there won't be any issues with it if I have to do any more dismantling.
in fact running one side of the amp into its minimum impedance you'll usually get a bit more power per side than using both sides at once, which is nice.
Depends what you're running into. If you have two 8-ohm cabs, you're probably better off running one off each output than both (ie a 4 ohm load) off one.
Where does RMS fit into all this? A Hartke LH500 puts out 350 watts into an 8 ohm Warwick 211pro. The 211pro handles 400w RMS, what does that mean?
RMS is the way of expressing the actual power. As Musky says, it's root mean square. What that actually means is that if you look at a sine wave, it looks like this: The actual average power going to the speaker is the area between the sine wave curve and the horizontal axis. This is different to the power going to the speaker at the peak of the sine wave, as the average power is 0.707 (sqrt 2 / 2, or 1/sqrt 2) times the peak power. Hence "peak power" (which is most likely the figure being quoted if there is nothing to say it's RMS) will be 1.414 times RMS power. What you also need to consider is energy - that is to say, power being made available during a period of time. This is why you may see speakers (generally PA) being quoted with a "programme" rating as well as a constant RMS rating. If you put bursts of sound into a speaker, the voice coil will have a chance to cool down between the higher volume parts. If you put a constant sine wave in, at some point the speaker will be unable to dissipate the energy in the voice coil as quickly as it is fed in, and the voice coil will overheat and physically distort or burn out. Hence music with reasonable dynamics will have its volume limited by the Xmax of the speaker (ie. how far the cone can travel), but a constant wave (sine, square, triangular, whatever) will be thermally limited before you can drive the cone to Xmax.

Whats your favorite rare, exotic bass... no pics no go...
I fell in love with the Henman B4 as soon as I saw it. Lots of money and not too many about. It doesn't have a fancy exotic wood top, but is made with mahogany /sapele.
Bloody hell, that's ugly. As it's a Henman, does it have anything to do with TIM? -
I love the way he's playing a twin-neck for no discernible purpose, while the guitarist has had to have holes cut in his Strat to lighten it.

It shouldn't be in Ebay links...
I think my opinion is fairly well known, there should be such a limit on all sale forums, but i don't see much merit in just applying the limit to the ebay forum, as someone said why not just move the threads to the sale forums instead.
Agreed, with the additional proviso that ebay auction links in For Sale don't need prices to be stated. Ironically, several of the links to ebay auctions which arrived in the Ebay links subforum recently appeared (from the response to them) to have been moved there from For Sale.

I would just like to say that caustic soda doesn't work very well. It is also inadvisable to boil a caustic soda solution up in an aluminium vessel. DAMHIKIJK.
My favourite bit of hi-fi hokum - http://www.machinadynamica.com/machina31.htm
You beat me to it. I'm moderately convinced that that site is a semi-hoax - the fact that there are covers from science fiction books on every page does hint that they are pointing out the unreality of all the claims, but OTOH if anyone is actually stupid enough to buy four 3/4" diameter blue dots for $99 then you can do it through Paypal.
Funnily enough I just did - or rather tired to , my call was rejected.
Have you made more than one attempt to call them? It's not something about your appearance, is it? Two noses? Eye in the middle of your forehead? Ginger?

It looks as if someone's just gouged out a hyuge hole in the front and stuck four P pickup halves in it.
My point is, upon seeing me play, he said i could get very far with my playing and I should pursue it as a career. This really, really inspired me and I am currently working on material. Something struck me though, I didn't really like what he said, he said my music lacked feel. So Im asking you guys, what is feel? surely if you have written something and it means something to you, that is feel, and that is all that matters right? do others need to see the meaning or purpose behind your music?? sure, some people may be able to se it/hear it, but youre the only one that knows deep inside what its all about? Aaaaaand one mooooreee thing. Have you ever experienced anything that has really given you the drive and inspiration to "go for it"? and what inspires you more than anything??
What was the context? Were you playing with a band or with sequenced instruments/drum machine? It's not necessarily about your playing but about the gestalt of the song. My dad first saw me perform a few months ago, and that's after I'd been playing about 35 years, so consider yourself favoured!

It would be worth looking for website design tips for accessibility because a lot of them are applicable. Poorly sighted people and dyslexics are the ones who benefit from clear appearance - IIRC the advice is for pastel background, black foreground, and sans-serif fonts (I admit to using a black background on one of my bands' websites, but we are a rawk band after all).

WOW!! 63 red sparkle custom colour P bass!

So it's possible to keep a Precision looking decent for nearly 50 years. Really shows up the tat that you normally see... -
Dont see many of these - Rickenbacker 4080
tauzero replied to Stag's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Thought it must be a scam from the advert text - he refers to "pics" at one point, and says "There are two nicks on the back of the bass neck that I am disclosing here as you can see in the picks." at another, but there's only one picture. -
Go on Jon admit it, if you had £8K for basses you'd buy 80 more pieces of Japcrap and open a museum
For 8k, I think Jon could buy 800 more pieces of Japcrap...
Being asked to hold on for a moment while someone gets the phone isn't an issue unless it's a long call and I'm stood about like a lemon
Any assistant worth their salt should be able to tell if a call is going to be a short or a long one in very short order, and if it's going to be a long one, tell the caller that they'll call back and get a number. What would really impress me as the customer in the shop would be if that happens, and as I'm leaving after being served, I hear the assistant calling back as promised. It'll never happen though...

I forgot another one - had the wireless die on me just as I was about to go into a bass-n-drums breakdown section of a song. Cue rapid shuffling of wires and continuation. I didn't use the wireless (a Nady 101) for years after that, and when I did I discovered that the problem was the power supply connector, a 3.5mm jack plug - the wire to it had broken internally and invisibly just where it entered the moulded plug. Exactly the same thing later happened to a second Nady unit I bought later.
Not too keen on the body shapes but there are some truly fantastic finishes on some of those basses...
I think the body shapes are fantastic - shame that Tony Tsai has stopped doing these basses:

Of course, if the position isn't actually employment per se but a position where a self-employed person is subcontracted to the band, all this talk of discrimination and illegality is pure irrelevant crap. Do those who are describing it as illegal actually know that the bassist will be an employee, or are they all just spouting hot air?

First gig with new Warwick Thumb at the Mean Fiddler. Decide to adjust truss rod slightly before going on. It breaks. I play gig with rather unusually high action... At one pub gig, put my pint on a shelf just behind and above my amp. There is just enough room for it to inch forward and spill a few drops into my Superfly, which promptly decides to have the rest of the night off. I go through the PA. When I get home, I dismantle and wash the Superfly, then dry it out and remantle it. It works perfectly.
