Strange hand sensation - weren't they Robert Plant's backing group for a while?
I'll never forget Kate Bush's big wide eyes when she last saw me and said.... "I've told you before, get off my lawn, there's a restraining order on you, guards! Release the hounds! That pervert's back again...."
They were hounds of love though Dave. She was trying to send a message and you missed your chance -
I'll never forget the first 5 words Ronnie Wood said to me..... "Who the f*** are you?"
Immediately followed by 'And how did you get in here?' The one that usually cracks me up is when someone says they've 'played with' some artist and give the impression they have been in their backing band when they actually mean they have been in a support band that has played before said artist. -
3. Hammond Organ and Leslie speaker - no mention of Jon Lord even in passing 4. Fretless bass - no mention of Jaco even in passing Just a tad more research would have paid dividends!
I've got a performable version but it's mostly at the root-note level. Watched Macca play it live on YouTube and that seems to be how he plays it too. Was mostly just for interest as there seems to be some fiddly playing in there but the bass isn't terribly clear.
If you are tabphobic you might want to look away but this seems pretty accurate; http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/b/beatles/back_in_the_ussr_btab.htm -

I think there are a variety of vocal 'cheat boxes' around, worth shopping around. I think TC were in on this quite early on (Helicon voicelive?) but their stuff isn't cheap. As a distinctly average singer/bvox I've been quite tempted myself in fact. The comparison Dark Lord makes with guitar stomp boxes holds up fine for effects but do they have boxes that auto corrects a guitarists bum note? if so I'll have one! Last time I saw one of these used effectively was with a guy working in a trio where he did all the vox (plus bass, no it wasn't Geddy). By using it sparingly to bring in harmonies on chorus sections of songs it really had an impact. I can't recall which one he used, def not the Boss it was some really old unit, poss Japanese, that was long out of production.

Get him to sing into a recording device while wearing headphones which is playing the song, if its covers then the version of the song you are basing your version on as long it is in the correct key for the singer. Play back his vox along with the backing track and listen to it with him/her. If your singer can't hear the problem at that point then it might not be worth trying to tutor them - they need to accept there is a problem to begin with, that's more than half the battle.

Apparently there is an open mic night at the County Hotel in Chesterfield on Mondays (unless t'internet is lying). Why not take a bass along and wow the locals?

Didn't know it wasn't PM playing that, I always thought it sounded very macca-esque! especially those little fills that come in at the end of verse lines strike me as being quite trademark Macca, maybe George was deliberately trying to emulate his style? good line though. Not too difficcult, I think all the verse/chorus sections are all the same and, the bass over the solo is the same as a verse (off the top of my head, a while since I played it) and that leaves the 'ukraine girls' bit which is played at two different places in the song but IIRC is played the same way each time. As with most things better to start with a slowed down version and then work up to full speed, fair nips along at proper tempo! Edit - now having actually looked at the wiki entry for it it is not as clear as suggested, with Macca, Harrison and Lennon all potentially contributing on bass on various takes some of which were mixed together for the fiinal version. As Macca is credited as writer presumably the basslines were pre written so other members would just play what they were told to, thus inevitably it soundslike a typical macca esque line! -
Good Lovin' Gone Bad bass tab/video/help! Please.
KevB replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
That's what i meant by my second comment, I don't know if that bassline is for Good Lovin or Flying & Driving. Have you tried playing that bassline against the track? Sometimes people create a new bassline over an older template page and forget to change the title at the top, but it could really be for another song and the gp filename is wrong. -

Try here; http://tabs.ultimate..._guitar_pro.htm let it load up on screen then click on 'piste 1' I don't know if it's right though as that bassline has a different title at the top of the page to the actual gp file so maybe someone's got their Bad co songs mixed up! not at home so can't check it out I'm afraid. -
Yeah I tried some of Morse's solo work after he left the Beard but the overt God bothering started to get irritating and I lost track. I quite like the album he did with Steve Morse and a few others as a project, think it was called Flying Colours?
The new Flower Kings CD that landed on my doormat from Sweden yesterday. Quite enjoyed the first listen through in the car on the way to work this morning.
I was listening to this too over the weekend whilst on a nature walk. It was the 2 disk version, though if you have a single CD version I wouldn't say there was anything significantly better on the additional disk. I find them a bit hit and miss but this sounded a decent enough effort. Still waiting for the new Panic Room album though!

$2250 for a telecaster copy? I guess a real vintage tele would be far more but this looks a bit steep considering there would be import duty on top. I'll be the first to admit not being up on current guitar prices though!

Definitely one for the 'not necessary to stick note for note to the original' file unless it was a bona fide RW trib act and even then I think there's plenty of leeway for some improv. I think I have jammed it in the distant past and tried to keep some feel of the original but def not 100% accurate. Stick plenty of octave jumps and fills from chorus back to verse and it sounds close enough. I think I used to put in a few Duff McKagan type fills in for a laugh.

Just face up to the fact that he auditioned you lot as his backing band and you didn't measure up...
I've been rather surprised that no-one else has commented on that. What with underpaying them and then not bothering to tell them that the Spiders was finished, he really seems to have been quite a sh*t.
Bit like Ozzy with Lee Kerslake and Bob Daisley. Which then reminded me of all the excellent bass work Bolder did with Heep so Bowie's loss was their gain!

I used to have one in a natural finish that had been defretted and had most of the pickguard missing. As a cheap introduction to fretless it had quite a decent tone to it but then I joined aband that didn't do anything requiring fretless, had so much new stuff to learn I never found time to play the Blazer and inevitably sold it on. Nice uncomplicated bass put together pretty well from what I recall.

Just to follow on from my last post, I can't believe I completely missed out on Blues Traveler. Only listened to the first 2 albums so far but I'm liking the variety and I'm impressed by the late Bobby Sheehan's basslines and playing, I'm surprised I haven't seen his name mentioned in other threads. Mind you it was years before I picked up on Gov't Mule so maybe I'm a bit slow with these things

I think one of the other artists (maybe Grace Jones, can't remember) said something like 'Happy birthday your majesty' at the end of their set which at the time I put down to being a clueless American. Then when I saw the Stevie Wonder thing I thought maybe someone had incorrectly got the word round in advance that it was maj's birthday or there had been some failure in communication somewhere.

You wonder with some of these multi band things if there is any testing of the gear in advance at all. I played a small outdoor festival a couple of weeks back as a favour to a mate who had a couple of band members missing and needed a dep. It was only 1 x 45 min set so 2 brief rehearsals had a resonably tight set with me doing about half the lead vox. I enquired about backline, all provided apparently, just turn up with a bass. Great stuff. Although quite a few acts had been on before us I don't think any of them had used the bass stack provided (act just before us was an acoustic guitar duo for example). So on we went and after 2 songs I start getting these awful whiny pseudo harmonic noises coming out of the stack (some old Laney head into a 4x10). I'm fronting the band for most of the set so turning round to twiddle and sort stuff out isn't really an option so I just gritted my teeth and got on with it, sounded abysmal from my end and apparently noticeable from the audiences end too so it was going all way through desk and out to PA. My mates other half mentioned it to the sound engineer and he claimed it was down to the pickups on my bass! This is my trusty US jazz which through a number of bands/different rehearsal rooms/jam sessions has probably been through about 10 different rigs with never a problem. I noticed the band due on after us had brought their own entire backline with them even though their set was no longer than ours, maybe they knew something! As we went off I told the stage crew to take the Laney away and burn it.

I think there's always going to be issues with sales in these 'close community' type forums. Every buyer is looking for bargains and 'mates rates' whereas every seller thinks that because the forum is mainly used by players they will then more fully appreciate the quality of what they have to offer and be prepared to pay top dollar. Common ground needs to be struck for deals to go through.

Roller/trolley for speaker stack - where to get?
KevB replied to mingsta's topic in General Discussion
I'd get a sack truck, saves your back physically lifting it onto a dolly and useful for gigging or other load shifting jobs. -
This once again raises the important point - great basslines need not be overly complicated nor technically beyond the realm of even the average player. They can still be memorable and, most importantly, add to and serve the other components of the song.
