Gigging and the costs - what would you do in this situation?
steve-bbb replied to Naetharu's topic in General Discussion
so many parameters but then as you say if you are playing orifinal prog metal then many of the variables will undoubtedly be rather constrained to reiterate an earlier comment if you can affort it and think its worth it go for it - just think of it finacnially as another night out and put the expense issue to one side and go out and enjoy yhe gig if the cost is going to be constantly gnawing away as your overriding concern then id personally suggest kick it into touch hope this helps -

Trouble playing octaves - could it be a thumb placement issue?
steve-bbb replied to Naetharu's topic in General Discussion
Cheers! If nothing else it's good to know that it is not just me that finds it tricky. It seems simple when I stop and look at it, yet getting the notes to all sound clean, clear and in perfect time is hard work. Well, looks like I know what I am going to be practicing this morning.
dont fret too much about 'clean' at first it might sound clanky while youre practising but youd be surprised how many isolated bass track of 'name players' also sound clanky when put in a harsh spotlight but as JT says above you will deffo get a different feel between the thumb/1st and 1st/2nd finger technique - if you can get the right groove and feel with the 1/2 technique then imho this would be preferrable over the thumb/1st technique even at the cost of a bit of rattling and clanking - after all who else at a gig is going to spot it other than a bunch of nitpicking bass players ed - and if youre in the sort of band who's gig success relies on getting people on their feet and shaking their groove thang then def go for the 1st/2nd string skipping technique -
Power ballad sentimental warblings about being dumped is not something I'm interested in regardless of how well done it might be. Can't argue with the sales figures though.
this - and sales figures as we all know bear no correlation whatsoever with talent but she is obviously vocally talented - which presents a slight conundrum but as you say Darren ... still cant listen to her with seeing pictures in my head of Glenn Close and that certain 'cookery incident'

give the thumb technique a go at first and eventually you will pick up speed although its as much an agility issue as it is speed imho - used to struggle like anything a few years ago with all that donna summer octave stuff and initially used to do it with the thumb and 1st finger method but gradually you pick up speed and get on top of it - although i must admit it does seem to be one of the areas where it does take a considerable amount of time and repetition to achieve the final result -
Well yeah, it had to come from someones stash.
why so? if you were compiling something where you were asking 5$ for a song download as a profitable ongoing business i would start by researching what would be the most likely and popular tracks rather than my personal preference

Ho thanks for reply is not pro version so unfortunately cannot install in do legacy mode - have also checked the sample rate mismatch issue and that doesn't cure the problem either Another strange side effect is that it is somehow eating int the video ram? When a sound app has been playing a while and breaks up or locks up completely, then hitting the X to close it down does close it but leaves its ghost behind on the screen ( tha machine has a dedicated vid card with 1gb ram and is not using the motherboard vid processing so not sure why there should be conflict there) Previously had this same card in a less powerful machine but running fully patched up XP and it ran sweet as anything

I've occasionally noticed a similar effect but not as severe and believed it to be due to different neck profile shapes affecting the left hand grip slightly ?

help please i dont actually have much hair left to pull out!!! have an emu0404pci-e card in a pc running windows7 (fully uptodate and with a dedicated vid card with 1gb vram) - i understand that emu apparently discontinued supporting the drivers for this card and others after XP - i have tried all the various little fizes i can find online but still suffering from sound signal break up the machine has a decent enough quadcore processor and 8gb of RAM sound breakup occurs in all and any apps although it noticeably seems to play up more in spotify this same card worked perfectly in an old sony vaio machine with a much slower processor and only 4gb of ram but crucially i guess with XP fully patched up any suggestions much appreciated ta ed- closing down the apps and restarting them usually clears it but sometimes they need closing down 2 or three times
Heavy Pettin' supporting Magnum at Hammersmith around 1988. The worst sort of 80s hair metal imaginable. And not even bad enough to be a parody of themselves.
You've just reminded me of my misspent student days when I believe I recall seeing tygers of pan tang at hull city hall Also recall another extremely dire display from a support band whose name escapes me but the whole episode is unfortunately etched into my tiny fragile mind by virtue of a woefully poor drummer wearing a mask (presumably to cover his own embarrassment) who delighted in thrilling the crowds with his showmanship and probably delighted himself more by the fact that he went by the name of ...... THUNDERSTICK

Ok hands up everybody in here of a certain age who when as a teenager thought they were on some god given mission to save the world from banality and mediocrity by listening to prog How did that work out?
