1.
you mean the 5¼" slot? That's easy. You just have to select all the audio and I think Audacity has a "Normalize" [sic] effect. Otherwise you will just have to bump up the gain. Whatever it is, it will be under the "effects" tab.
thanks i moved thread to the recording forum -after a few hours of faffing about i eventually found the trim pot channel insert to boost the input gain - record and normailse - works a treat

 4. ok so ive had a rummage around and found an old tape walkman which i forgot had all plugged in to the inputs of my emu 0404 but cant seem to get enough volume in to audacity to make recording at decent level i have the output on teh walkman at about 90-95% ish and the settings on emupatchmix and audacity here any clues please for an old easily confused person here - thanks muchly completely forgotten how good all american alien boy actually is!!
 5.
Looks like I'll have to look forward to this crap if I join a band in the future :-( And I thought it was just get discovered and make a mint :-(
that all depends whether or not you end up in a band run by the sort of people who when they were kids used the old 'its my ball and i get to choose whos on my team' schtick
 6.
You mean like one of these?... http://www.pittjug.o...e_drive_61.html I don't think they make em anymore.
indeed - not good reviews on the spec on them found this though http://www.tape-2-pc...CFQwjfAodBi0lZA which gives me an idea i'd probably be better picking up an old cassette walkman somewhere and shoving the headphone output straight into audacity edit .... if any nice basschatter has an old cassette walkman theyd like to recycle ?
 7. does anybody know of such a thing as a peripheral cassette tape deck to fit in a 5" slot in the PC? i used to have a Digital Tape for backups years ago that was such a device but was wondering if an audio cassette tape version ever existed? ta muchly
 8. i very much doubt that the person who gave them the new gigs on the back of their street party gig insisted that they keep the exact same line up sounds to an old cynic like me that they are not happy with you playing in more than one band - i'd let them know politely but firmly exactly what i thought of their passive-aggressive schtick
 9.
A good friend of mine has been through a string of guitars & always has at least 15 hanging on the wall of his home studio. He has a few PRS's but his favourites for the past couple of years have been the Suhr Guthrie Govan models. I've heard these playing funky Nile Rodgers type stuff through to very heavy rock and they seem to sound great in any situation
or almost identical appearance Ibanez S series or if you can find an old fgm100 going cheap - amazing sound from the stock Ibanez F1 and F2 pups but hideous colours - body colour could be easily addressed but unfortunately they had a sharktooth shaped fret inlay marker in the body colour - they do sadly look very dated and somewhat tacky but if you see one dont pass it by without picking it up and having a go as they are a world away from JEMS and the like and imho much more versatile
 10.
http://www.hotukdeals.com ? Edit: I guess you mean just bass related ones!
Chilli Sauce 48p per bottle GET IN !

 12.
Be Bop Deluxe and Yes records that really grabbed my attention.
i was 16 and had a saturday job and discovered be bop deluxe and was so impressed i went and bought all five albums in one week after seeing them at hammersmith odeon and then began figuring out loads of the guitar and bass parts on my black jap copy LPs (4 & 6)
 13. nice driving groove to this one - the live versions is about 3 or 4 tones lower than the original studio cut which has a lot more drive and urgency - great song from a very underrated mr scaggs http://youtu.be/JgtOsZLaXS4 http://youtu.be/frQ6NoaFSwg
 14. i only have the two basses - one i use for bright powerful active rip your eardrums apart sort of sounds, the other i keep for nice flat dull passive old school stuff
 15. its all about intuition and its often a very subconscious process - sure a teacher could show you all the basic elements and rudiments of harmony but it seems to be one of those things that the more effort you put in to constructing a bass line the more contrived it can often sound- personally if im trying to figure a bass line for a pattern i will give it no more than about 2 or 3 minutes - if i havent cracked it in that time i leave it alone and come back to it after a nice cup of tea and a sit down more spontenaeity and intuition and less conscious deliberation how do you teach that? like many things involving artistic/creative process i guess you cant - but you can teach and learn the priniciples that surround it all and then just let your intuition do its job without your ego interferring
 16.
Hotrods FTW! Other solution is an electronic kit. Can get Roland & Yamaha ones at a decent price now & they sound awesome.
yes yes but they are also a total mindf*ck as a bass player standing next to a drumkit thats making no acoustic noise and youre hearing the drums only via the PA and dont get me started on the rubber cymbals!!! sound nice yes but me no likey
 17. recent phone call to one of the denmark street shops me: ive got an original 70s colorsound tonebender im looking to sell or trade shop: you need to speak to X hes the man who deals with effects but i know hes got plenty of colorsounds me: really? not reissues, original 70s? shop: yeah hes got a couple of hundred of them
 18. have jusr scanned the entire thread and cant see mention of it yet so apologies if its already there somewhere but the whole issue here is really that the shop, or more specifically it's service, is only as good as it's sales staff there seem to be quite a few posts above with conflicting/contradicting posts on the same retailers so it might be safe to presume that either different shop staff were dealing or you caught them on an off day!

 20.
Kicked off Yamaha Attitude Facebook page for daring to mention Fender. Where the Hell do they think the origins of Sheehans Attitude basses come from. Come back John Hall, all is forgiven
youve just inspired me to go do something on facebook edit - at least the TRB facebook group is open with no control freakery overlording it
 21.
Definitely, but I think there is enough going on in those tracks without having to add 'tasteful licks'. Thinking more about the jubilee concert, it would gave been a sound engineer and monitoring engineer's worst nightmare. Artist after artist doing one tune, just get the mix right halfway through the song then it's on to the next.
not being sound techie but how much of this can be preset and figured out with sound checkcs and dress rehearsals and such? the only thing that did stick out very noticeable for me was on several occasions it seemed like some production luvvie had probably leaned against the mixing desk and accidentally knocked the bass drum slider all the way up to eleven!
 22. hmmm guess it was only a matter of time before the 'make sure you bring a crowd along with you' syndrome turned into this new extra dimension maybe the (lazyass) promoters need to consider that the time wasted on chasing ticket sales will mean less time spent on rehearsals to ensure a good performance (but somehow i doubt they will as that would adversley affect their profit margin and so therefore is not worth them even considering) i can see how this sort of principle might work with DJs and clubs but not live bands and proper music venues - i guess greedy promoters are nothing new in the entertainment industry , they just dream up new and intersting ways to behave like total cox and pi55 off the very people they are relying on for their revenue stream

 24.
When the strings get old on my Ovation acoustic bass they make my fingers smell like pickled onion Monster Munch.
thats bizarre ... i had a packet of pickled onion monster munch at the back of the cupboard that were waaaay past their sell by date so i opened them up to give them the sniff test and they smelt like a set of old guitar strings
