No, he's dead.
but there will usually be some busybody somewhere who will mind 'professionally' on his behalf no?
good luck mr andybob - ive tried this too in the past but i just could not get my head around the whole lefthand/righthand independence thing in much the same way that i cant play bass and sing at the same time...although some might say i just cant play bass full stop

Never used one on bass though I've seen it done
IMO rio is one of those songs that should not be done in another key , it's one of my favourite lines at the moment
I may just try what your suggesting for fun with my 6string capo for a laugh as I know the line well
Doesn't that key shift make you wonder what the band is all about?
Edit- just noticed the audition is now, hope it went ok for you?
i think im going to go get one of those capos suggested above and have a fiddle with it - i find playing with things like that far more entertaining than trying to get decent sounds out of an octaver or synthbass pedal
i dont mind transposing on the fly if its basic patterns but whilst Rio is fairly basic it is rather busy and i just dont feel the drive is there playing up 3 - and then there's that nice big fat open EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE .......... her name is rio da da dum dum dum dee dum etc etc
ive never seen it (on a bass)
does anybody do it?
does it work? (i see no reason why it shouldn't)
i have an audition this evening - they want Duran/Rio - no problem I can rock the pants off it in the original key - they want it up three semitones in G
scuse the bluntness but 6 months really is pi55 all
i flogged all my gear many years ago and regretted it massively (from my own personal exp unless you are loaded with beer tokens, you simply cannot go out and replace a trace rig a status and a trb6p 'just like that')

It has a couple of duff, slow tracks but balances that with awesome tracks like Night of the Iguana and Hana.
i will try giving it another listen !! (in between revising/learning some stuff that some pesky local band that want me to audition Duran/Rio in G!! FFS do these singists have no sense of decency!!)

That has to be one of the most awful covers. No energy, just the most lazy, cynical cash in ever by a bunch of talentless hacks.
The best cover of the song is, frankly, by Joni herself from the Shine album.
sorry but that album should be called sh*te not Shine
whats to say about this man's vocal talent that hasn't already been said? beautiful arrangement with PJJr ultra slick on guitar

some of our american friends might say this is bordering on hipster douchebaggery but i think counting crows made a nice cover of this in comparison the plethora of (imho) lame covers of this out there (this has to rank high in the top ten most covered songs )

I think that it's more to do with the rhythm section than anything......
this .... but as much as i like hendrix i really cant get into the experience stuff the same way as the band of gypsys
this one is sooo good i think mr vai should leave it the FFFF alone after this version

+1 George Duke is a seriously great player
i know he is my all time top fave muso - personal preference i place him above zappa even - seen him twice at ronnie scotts - was sat so close i could have played his foot pedals for him

There's your way out lads - we've all played with keys players; we know your typical keys player is a feckless dandy. We'll be fine, our jobs are safe for another day
but then again that might be a bad thing cos we all know how keyboardies just love to copy and double our bass lines and muddy them up
not threatening at all imho - it will only sound as good as the musicianship of the keyboard player using it
if youre demo-ing a new product like this you seriously wouldnt pick just 'any average' keyboard player - it is a very smart choice using george duke he has always been way above most players in his ability to write bass synth lines that transcend sounding as if they come from a keyboard

Having been suitably inspired by the Adele song, I ventured out into the rain on Friday night and attempted to set fire to it. My only achievement was a soggy box of matches and a nasty sniffle. My only conclusion is that despite what Adele is advocating in her song, it is actually impossible to set fire to the rain and I am left feeling somewhat cheated - a feeling I hadn't experienced since I found out that the Beatles didn't actually all live in a yellow submarine. Has anybody else had a similar experience discovering that a song's lyrics are clearly impossible?

Adele stuff is easy
1 take one large pan of boiling water
2 one cute fluffy bunny
