This is a lovely Jazz anyway but no way worth that amount, even with that great provenance.
Spot on.....

£250 - 350. Sadly I'll be gobsmacked if it would fetch anymore than that.....

Thanks G, I thought you'd approve! ( Looking for No. 4 now... ) Happily, the black P now lives with Voxpop, and it would appear is evolving further!

Matt are they all still in teh boxes and do you want them still?

Gotta be the Swampy PRS.... Was sat around pontificating about g'tars with my g'tarist and said wouldnt it be great if PRS made basses? Neale didnt think he ever had but I did some research and found out Paul's ltd Bass history. I then thought 'I'll get one', little did I know it would nigh on impossible to find one. After a freak Google search, ( it only came up as a hit once ) I found a shop in the US that still had 2 NOS ones. Quite literally fell in love with the Swampy first time I saw it. When it came it was even better in the flesh, it handles brilliantly, produces a wonderful tone with Flats on and will only be removed from my cold dead hands.... Every other bass is judged by it, and as yet nothing compares to it!

Well I thought you were a due an update... (I have owed Walbassist these for a while ) So first up is the New Baritone, a starightforward Mike Mushok sig SE Gotoh knobs and Schallers but other than that std.... Second is my new acquisition, an (ex John "Rhino" Edwards) PRS EB IV which has now been 'Bobbed'. Stripped down, fret job, nut relocated , new Hippy tuners (D-tuner on E), Pups stripped and rebuilt, Bart 2 band Pre-amp with stacked knob, battrey box fitted and bridge bead blasted and sprayed black to match the new Hippies. Havent yet fitted the Bassmute but its ready to go on. Not everyones cup of tea but I love it..... I tried GHS flats and D'adds 40-100 but now have 50-105 Chromes on and it sings...... I put my trusty Swampy in the pic too as it can't bear to be left out of photos!

PORN..... Moved accordingly..!

I just bought a new one for £50 more than that, he'll be very lucky to get that...... SEs dont go for much more than about 55% of their current sale value 2nd hand..... Which is a shame as its a cracking g'tar especially down tuned to A If only I could find a way to pimp them so I could have 2......

Amazing bass finish! Merged with Ritter Thread (same subject!)

It looks like the kinda thing that hangs on the walls of places that George Micheal was famous for hanging around when talking to nice Policemen....... -
Yes please, box the lot and let me know what the postage is please! I have few more ot keep them company.....

Chris, there is bound to be some spacings that the Schaller wont suit, but with adjustable pole pieces you can balance the output form each string anyway so not an issue. The blade type guitar one is a diiferent issue... that being said as long as the blade is wide enough to capture teh full oscilation of the string and has a good enough magnet again this shouldnt be an issue....
Any factory can churn out a Friday afternoon special.
And can also produce an absoulte doosey! I have seen close to perfect from Korea and exceedingly shonky from a US custom shop. I would suggest that here in 2009, it is about the final result in your hands. If it is made well, fits your criteria and budget, does it matter where its made? QC is definately better from some companies than others irrespective of which country of origin. Honestly, who has ever had someone come up to them after a set and say..... "oh I much prefer the sound of your US made blah blah, against that nasty Korean one.....?"

How bad does a copy have to be
I'm getting more interested in the whole Baritone thing, but the tunings and playing have me really confused. You've already listed several different tunings (above) and a review of Baritone guitars I found on the Net suggested two more (30" scale = A-D-G-B-E-A / 28" scale = B-E-A-D-F#-B ), so for any given Baritone that's five or six things to try out. Are you supposed to play chords like a guitar? If so, doesn't that mean learning new chord shapes (or at least locations)? Or is it more of a dirty Delta blues thang, with little riffs and runs being terminated by a 2/3-string chord? Or can you get seriously radical, tune it to an open chord and then play bottleneck bass? These are intended to be serious questions - trying all this out means investing a fair bit of dosh!
HJ, Great point about dirty delta blues.... Thats exactly what I have in mind... chucking out backing tracks for my guitarist.... I found this really useful.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baritone_guitar But that is nowhere near exhaustive.... Mike Mushok plays in a real odd tuning Ab-Db-Ab-Db-Gb-Bb at times which I thought was way 'out there' but apparently it was a popular kinda thing with Black Sabbath and sinmilar bands of that ilk..... It is opening up a whole new universe to me and yes I am trying to find ot about chord shapes etc, and my g'ist is researching it for me....
Does the PRS intonate properly at low E?
I've stuck with it at A, and to be honest thats the limit of this scale length. The Low A string saddle has less than 1mm movement left and I have had to trim the screw back, so low A is as far as its going. Got to add that in low A the big fat string is a bit quieter than the other 5 at the mo so a little more work is needed but I'm getting there..... Using D'addario X157 13-68 baritone strings.
How's the PRS btw? I was promised pics you know...
G, good on yer mate! What I'm enjoying most is that however tricky some bass parts are, they seem much easier to get your headaround when you've playing on this tiddly iddly fretboard with strings waay too close together for 1/2 and hour.. ! I will do some EB IV pics (mybad) and at the same time do some pics of the Fender for ebay.
i've got a vi...but it didn't cost £5k...but then it wasn't made in 1968. i've always contended it's a bass rather than a baritone - but i use it for noise/post-rock things, although never live sadly.
I always liked the idea of the VI but then whenever you look for one, they make PRS basses seem common... where are they all? It would be nice if this PRS baritone was slightly longer scale length but then it was designed for me, it was designed for a 'HM guitarist' so I should be gratfeul eh? Gotta say that the QC and build quality of this Korean PRS is notably better than a US Fender would be anyway.... Sad but true. All in all its kinda odd playing basslines on essentially a guitar, and they jangle (combination of short scale, roundwounds and two way too powerful humbuckers!) but its cool flitting from a bassline into a strummed chord and back again..... Now I just need to find out WTF to do with it......

Hmmmmm Dan Armstong (Ampeg) Plexi bass.... yummy! Was a bit quiet in that # tho'

The Zender's one of the nicest Ws to date.... That painted abomination should be torched .....

If my rare CS Fender is owt to go by.... Worth lots but no one will buy it...... If its mint, I'd say well in excess of £1500..... Buyers however are few and far between.... Gonna try ebaying my CS and be willing to post to Europe, the Euro is strong at the min and a lot of 'nice' stuff is going that way....
