If you sell it in here, people will know what you're selling and you'll get market value for it. TBH I'd rather buy a budget Yamaha than a cheap Fender/Squier if we're talking sight unseen. At least Yamahas are reasonably consistent, with a Fender god knows what you'll get for your money.
Actually very sound advice...! Whilst the ones you mention look like the proper thing, buying a cheap squire/fender is a bity hit and miss. Dont get me wrong it may be an absloute cracker, but it may be pretty shonky too, would you know the difference with your level of experience? Buying a new Yamahe or 2ndhand Ibanez (even better) is a sure bet..... bit like backing the favorite on a horse race - you wont win as much as an outsider but your chances of winning are much higher..... Does that make sense?

I'll be interested to see if any opinions come out of this as I'm in a similar position.......

There are some very nice European basses that you may do better with the exchange rate... Marleaux (Consat 4 is very nice) Warwick (take your pick- they wil all do rock but the Vampyre is awesome!) Clover - Avenger or Expression 4 (Yummmie) Vigier - Arpege 4.... VERY nice.... Or as said above get yer backside to the Gallery in London and chat with Alex.... He'll be more than happy to liberate your money from you!

Accoustic basses tend to lack sufficient volume to cut it with other accoustic instruments, hence the prevelance of electro accoustics. You dont need a huge amp to drive the sound but anything like 1/2 decent accoustic 6 strings will drown an un amplified bass unless it is an upright.

There is probably a very good reason why Crate have dropped bass amps from their range... I'm not convinced that they had a particularly good rep. Maybe look at others in a similar price range or consider 2nd hand off here....

When a term becomes a generic referance to any object that represents the original, it is because it is synoynmous with it..... Therefore Fender Bass, is no different than Hoover or Sellotape...... Sadly they do exactly what it says on the tin!

I know its almost indecent isnt it.... When petrol was at its height, that was the amount it cost to fill my Jeep with petrol.......
They're Wizard Tweedtones and it's made it the best EG I've got, and probably the best Strat I've ever played/owned.
Oh bugger, now you've done it.... I'll have to forward this to Neale whoa has always been looking for that 'utlimate strat' sound.... I'll put money on him not knowing about these.... BTW its very cute....
Are you any good though?
The idea is not to take Sean either literally or seriously, he is to the free world of bass players what Combat 18 is to free world of integrated society.....

You certainly are into those EGs...... (and no I havnet tried an earlier set neck bass) Just out of interest have you played a 513, and how does it compare to the EG II with the h/s/h set up that you have? That will just freak my mate Neale out when he sees this thread.....
The price hike on the LH500 is down to Hartke rather than Absolute - RRP up from £249 to £395, which obviously isn't just down to the drop in Sterling. You've got to wonder if Hartke haven't shot themselves in the foot in the current economic climate. I wonder if we'll see the RRP drop later in the year?
Actually thats very fair and indeed Absolute have just done (this morning) me a cracking deal on a Peterson tuner. I cranked up the 'price match', and they stepped up to the plate! (actually I could've got it from several other places but they had the stands I need, so I effectiely got them FOC!) Its definately a buyers market. So good on 'em I say.....
Erm ... I'm assuming that was a joke, right? At least, I bloody hope it was!
H.J. Didn't Paul originally play a Hofner and then was GIVEN a P....? before he was seduced by Rickenbaker? Just checking up on my history? ( I'm sure I read that somewhere, but I do know he wasnt using Fenders for very long...)
Very nice indeed. On Bass Direct's website it says the rrp is just over £1400, but on Thomann's their price is over £1800! I understand that this might have something to do with € - £ exchange but £400 difference? WTF.
Yeah I know, the new comics state aroud £1500, I think I'll wait for the $-£ to stablise a bit..... but I'm goin' to have one.... -
Kinda with TNIT on this one...... Leo's design was jawdroppingly good first time 'round, moreso I feel for the P and J basses than his guitars. The fact that he has tried with 2 other companies since to better the design and not really succeeded (although the S-ray is undoubtedly brilliant in its own right) speaks volumes. The sad part for me is that Fender as a company have had so many ups and downs that its difficult to know what is a good bass and what isn't, which is a crying shame when you consider for nearly 60 yrs athey have been making essentially the same design. Would any other form of engineering project have got away with producing the same design for 60yrs with little or no improvement? There are undoubtedly MUCH better basses available now. Basses that have hugely better QC, that have far greater range of tones, that are more stable, and that have fewer drawbacks. The sad but inevitable truth tho' is, that none of these new kids have the corporate image that Fender have, and therefore if you want to 'belong' there is only one...... For me? I like to be different.....
