These...... http://www.rotosound.com/tru88.html Or I use these now as they feel slicker and are sensible guages...... http://www.ghsstrings.com/products.php
2. Are you having a parteeeh before you go...?
3. There's no option for 'still dont'...... I would be in that, as its relative.
4. Blatant dirty top shelf porn......
5.
Furthermore, any moderator who gets involved in a thread debate, cannot and should not then, moderate in the same thread. It is simply not impartial use of moderation. A moderator who is not involved in the discussion, is the appropriate person to moderate and that rule should be applied across the board here because this theme of discussions descending into insulting chaos is all too common, to the detriment of this forum.
Errrm isnt that what I was doing?
6. Mudslinging in theory and technique.......? Excellent..... I have just drudged though 16 pages to see what the fuss is about, in honesty I'm still not sure. Noone has any objection to passionate debate, I find it hard to understand why some of you get so hung up in your own beliefs that others who may choose to disagree set themselves up to be targets of petty bickering. Please keep it on track from now on or this topic will be closed, which would be a shame beacuse there is some excellent contributions thus far and very good arguments for and against. Me, I have no opinion as I struggle with it all equally, reading, playing by tab or ear. Then I'm not a professional musician, if I were I guess I'd take them all more seriously.

10.
It needs a new nut & strings at least so that's a starting point for haggling.
"plastic string bridge, only 50p to replace when changing strings" aaaaaaaahhhhhhhwwwwww how sweet!
11.
Thanks for the advice!! I've been looking in the for sale section. I need to dig further!
My advice FWIW is DONT RUSH! Unless you urgently need a bass for an upcoming gig then dont be rushed into the 'got to get one this weekend, money burning hole in pocket trip"..... You want to get one that you HAVE to pick up and noodle everytime you go near it rather than something that makes it feel like a chore. It sounds with your g'tar experience that you should have a fairly good sense of what you're after, so dont settle for 'its near enough' just because its in stock at your local shop. There is LOADS of really good 2ndhand stuff around at the min and thats all teh more reason for getting it right 1st time. From your quick bit in the OP, sounds to me that a Highway One would tick your boxes and they are very capable basses but it could be a Jazz or a P...... theres soooo much choice.... Welcome aboard.....
12. Anyhooo.... whats wrong with these.....? http://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_bxr1800h.htm
13. Warwick Rockbass and Ibanez too......
14. With a blk pickguard and upgrade blk hardware that could be a stonking bit of kit...... Never have liked metal control plates on jazzes....... a real turn off IMO..... now a Strat stylee PG..... hmmmmmmm
15. A PM to Beedster would probably answer this well as he's had more than his fair share of dealings with Fretless and Ps.....
16. No one can be really sure whats likely to happen with our economy currently, HOWEVER some good news for once..... Guitar Emporium is importing again, bringing in Japanese Fenders (primarily). Below is a link to the latest goodies up for offer! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=46985
17. Just emailled my geetarist who may be intersted in teh body..... I'll see what his response is..... It'll be me building it if he goes ahead......
18. Rather than just being 'a different design' from the 80's I see Ned as probably the only other person (other than Leo of course!) to have done anything truly outstanding with the bass since its inception. I think if hed had some of todays electronics at his diposal as well as the material technology skills he has, his designs would have been the 'watershed' he was hoping for....... A true inovator IMHO......
19. I have a Tascam and the Boss Br micro. For quiet boppin'/practice the Tascam wins. The Boss will do that too but has a recorder and other clever bits. I use the Tascam more often because it doesnt need recharging so often..... OR using with the power supply on.... the Boss seems quite power hungry.... Bit like the old CD BT1... My opinion FWIW..... that being said Boss have just bought a gucchi little Mic for teh BR which I have got to have....... (what a kid.... )
20. COMPLETE WaStE OF TIME....... Kidding...... Very nice genuine, easy going, & honest chap...... Highly recommended .
21.
Why's he trying to get this thread removed?
I have no idea, I'll close it but I dont see any reason to remove it.....
22.
I know, and it's not going anywhere! The Roadsters have a fatter neck though, and I like a fat neck - so there's room for one in the collection I actually think that - nostalia/collectability/mojo/voodoo etc aside - Ibanez in that era put their name to some genuinely great basses. Pluck
...... and guitars......! It was an era when they were trying Sooooo hard to be accepted as luthiers in their own right as opposed to 'copiers'...... they used some stonking bits of wood and were (and still are!) very good at what they do..... Their QC is loads better than the big 2 US makers..... (I actually think its about where the Koreans are getting to now...... watch them as they will be turnig out some cracking stuff soon.......!)
23. There is more cahnce fo me being made Pope Bob the 1st than that being teh genuine article..... I have Table Tennis bats that are nearer to a P bass than that......
24.
I've seen good examples of Roadster's with the 'Blazer' shaped headstock fetch well north of £300 on eBay - certainly the TOTR models. The Bass Cellar on Denmark Street has/had one in - admittedly in really nice shape but ( typically for them ) were after £400 for it, which is too much IMO - for now at least. I'm actually in the market for one myself, although I'm looking the natural version and in great condition - and will pay fairly decent money for it when I find it. Take Jon's advice: I'd offer him £100 - £150 quid for it, spend some time on it and fix it up ( needn't cost much ) and then be happy with what will be/is a really nice bass Pluck
You'll be hard pushed to find that matches the Blazer that you've got........
