hasnt Walbassist just parted company with one of these (A Villette IIRC) that is now residing in the galllery looking for a new home......?

There seems to be 2 schools of thought here, one for low action and one for setting it higher. Is it dependant on the bass/string set up? or is this a generic stance?

Err folks..... I have a confession. I have been completely overcome by MK fever...! I cannot get Lessons in Love out of my head and am now desperately practicing it. Now being an out and out fingerstlye blues and rock player, this has pushed me a bit left of field.... So those of you that slap a lot is there a 'Proper" set up for slap.... Lets put it this way, having a really low ction and flats is not exactly working sound wise. Clearly roundwounds wil make a lot of difference, but is there any tips action wise? I'm currently having to slap over the 20th fret to get anything like a 1/2 decent sound...... Bit of help for a sad old git please....?

Tom, by gum it [u]is[/u] likely. You can get dry joints or broken wires anywhere...... The nasty end of teh spectrum is that there could be broken winding in teh pick up but lets look at the obvious first! Do you have a multi meter..?

sounds like a coil tap to me.... (gives a different amount of turns to teh full amount) but really you need to check with the maker of teh new one to find out for sure.

Sounds like a dry solder joint or broken wire..... Have you checked these...?

I use the PRS stuff, its really good, but also Ernie Ball and Gibson make very good stuff. If I'm doing a repair job I use Autoglym (Maguires similar stuff!)to get a real finish then finally with the PRS polish....

Just get one that's made of decent bits and put together well, and we'll sort the sound out when you get back...... They are eminently pimpable..... (I'll get mi soldering iron warmed up!)
