1.
And we have a winner, the Bassmax on this bass just sounds superb
Thought you'd like it!
2. Has this not gone yet? At this price it's a steal!
3. If I hadn't injured my hand this would still be mine, not that it's difficult to play, in fact before my injury it was a dream to play, now I struggle with most instruments. It's a nice bass to play unplugged on the sofa, a real beauty, lovely woods, and the pre amp has lots of features. Shouldn't be around for long!
4. I've had most makes and models over the years and would recommend the Bassmax as a simple, effective option that doesn't require precise fitting or a preamp (depending on what you are plugging into). Bassace on here had one for sale recently. There are plenty of threads on here discussing p'ups, good luck!
5. Hey Keith, thought I'd already mentioned I've a bag of assorted old strings you can have I've still got that unused set of NS strings
6. Oh no, sorry to hear that Clarky, hope things work out better for you soon.
7. I'm lovin' the MB200 head with an Epi UL110 for upright and b.g. I use GK MB210 combo, for louder gigs but I'd like the same sound in a smaller combo and wondered if anyone on here has tried / got one of these? Cheers Keith
8. You'll be wanting the bass back for the Jools Holland & Jonathan Ross gigs I take it?
9. "Ere we go again. Clarky now has a nice Takamine B10 fretless acoustic. Sorry I couldn't help you out with the Wal mate. Clarky made very generous donations to the R.S.P.C.A. and the Dog's Trust, what a nice fella!
10. Hey Owen, I've got a 1/2 scale Honey D you can have if you want to try it.
11.
Hi Guys, Does anyone know the bassline to this classic track?? - I'm struggling to pick it up on my Dansette with my old cloth ears !! The dots, tabs, or even just the chords would be helpful?? - all donations gratefully received! All the best, Tim
Randy did a couple of versions of this song, the later version on the Feeling Good album with Joe Sample is slower than the original. I haven't got a chart but I've played it a few times in the past, shouldn't be too difficult to sort something when time allows. In fact you can download it from here if you install sibelius scorch first. Keith
12. Does my trial survey count or will I have to re-do it?
13. I use a similar one from Wickes, they're great aren't they!
14. Here's a Takamine in action.
15.
I have an Items Wanted search on BC for a fretless Fender P, PJ or J bass but was thinking on about this. I am intrinsically a Precision fanboy but various BCers have said in the past that a Jazz gets closer to a double bass sound (bridge pickup solo'd with tone rolled off) which is my main tone target with a fretless. Clearly the ideal would be to cover all bases (excuse the pun) with a PJ such as a Tony Franklin fretless. However the likelihood of getting hold of a reasonable priced s/h one is low, given I just missed out on Legion/Jas' TF last week. So if I am to get a P or a J fretless, which would be better for my needs? The alternative is simply to get a Takamine TB10 or B10 acoustic fretless which would definitely sound DB-ish but is bulkier, more fragile and potentially feedback prone (according to some). Thoughts, peeps? PS, I have a double bass before anyone suggests that Also I am a traditionalist in my tastes
I use the neck pup more on your ex p/j, using that bridge pup with the tone rolled off sounds like Jaco!
16. Frets? who needs frets? get them ripped out! Seriously tho, get the frets sorted and play the hell out of it for another 50 years
17.
I'm also interested in your comment about stiffness, do you mean the tension? or the fact that the strings don't bend easily/aren't very flexible?
It's a while since I had the Honeys but I think it was the latter, not flexible.
You mention the flexocor, bel canto and heritage; have you played obligato and/or evah pirazzi? i only ask to get an idea of whether there is something in particular you prefer about the three you mention over other "hybrids".
I've a couple of sets of Evah and find the Bel Canto similar, on my Hungarian I've got Evah E & A Bel Canto D & G and I can't tell any difference playing across the strings bowed or pizz. I've a set of Obligato on my old flatback sand apart from the "roll" they sound nice. Not sure if I can let the Heritage go for autopsy just yet, I haven't tried them on all basses yet. The core is very fibrous, I wonder if I could forward some pics. cheers Keith
18.
A beauty ! Cant wait till mine shows up. So Mr Bassman, what about strings ? G
It came to me with La Bella black flats, I've put some TI flats on which I prefer but I've not gigged it with these yet.
19.
Photos, photos!
Here are some pics of my B10 curtesy of Phil at Bassgear. 20.
Hi Bassman - you stull got that Planet pup? Is it the older version (flat surfaces, sandwich filling visible) or the newer version in little sealed copper lozenge? I'm interested to try one, heard some very positive comparisons to my faithful underwoods.
It came with the Kolstein Travel Bass which Clarky now owns. It was the older version according to your description.
21.
Gallien-Krueger 112MBX cab for sale. Small compact 12" extension speaker originally designed to give extra headroom to the 150MBS combo. But will be just as good as a stand alone cab under a small head to give the smallest rig possible but with great sound. As with all my stuff, condition is perfect. £150 incl shipping.
Pm'd
22.
Hope to be gigging again by next Sunday at City Vaults in Bradford with Karen Carpenter tribute vocalist Laurie Briggs (will be jazz gig, not Carpenters) and my band the Watermelon Men.
Well I couldn't do the gig on Sunday. I'd spent some time playing at home the night before and my hand was too sore the next day. A friend of mine stepped in at short notice and did a fine job. Big thanks to Des from Otley. I managed my Tuesday night gig on my ex Clarky Fender p/j, which I really enjoyed playing again, that bass is so easy on the hands, but my hand is sore again. It'll take time, especially to get back on the upright, I've had to cancel orchestra rehearsal tomorrow. So I'm just doing a few scales and arpeggios on my keyboard to try and loosen up the fingers.
23. Bought an item off Owen which unfortunately Parcelforce didn't take utmost care of. Owen didn't hesitate in offering a refund and covering return costs even while he was out of the country! The world would be a much better place with more people like Owen around.
24.
monday bump
Would you consider a swap for a Markbass LMK head (2 channel) ? cheers Keith
25. I'd be interested in the cab if you'd consider splitting them. I've already got the Shuttle 3 8T so I don't need the head. Unless you fancy a Markbass LMK?
