1. How about a Northern upright bash on Saturday 7th April? Bassace has a gig that night in Boston Spa, it's just off the A1 near Wetherby. I could have a word with the venue or find another maybe in Harrogate
2. How about a Northern upright bash on Saturday 7th April Bassace has a gig that night in Boston Spa, it's just off the A1 near Wetherby. I could have a word with the venue or find another maybe in Harrogate Sorry to hijack Chris' thread, I'll start a new topic.
3. An upright bass bash is something I've been thinking about for us northerners, there's very little stock anywhere up here.
4. P.C version Mac version Have fun
5. I may have misled some peeps here. The Kindle App is available as a free download for P.C. / Mac etc. and there are some books available for free download, but the book in question "Easy Classical Double Bass Solos" costs £3.86 to download. Sorry folks
6. I like the concept of this but I think Amazon should know that their scan resolution needs to be higher. I've printed off a couple of sheets and I need a magnifying glass to read the fingering, and thats with my reading glasses! I wonder if I can get a refund

8. The notation is fine, it's the tiny numbers they have used for fingering
9.
I got Jerry Coker's Improvising Jazz for Kindle and found the musical notation too small to be useful. (And anything beyond the first few pages too difficult!) I've just downloaded the PC version for Kindle and although it's better, there is no way of making the notation larger. You can change the font size and make the text bigger, but not the music. I'm tempted by this bass solo book but not if it has the same problem. I had a look at the sample but it doesn't have any music, only words. Can anyone help?
Does control + not zoom in?
10. I'm free so far that evening shall we resreve front row tables Geoff?
11. Watch this It may or not help but it makes me smile
12.
This is a great deal! I would love to try this bass. I need a southern gig to give me an excuse :-)
Fancy organising a minibus Geoff? I bet there'd be a few of us from Yorkshire would love to see the Upton and meet Bassace face to face
13. Thought some of you might find this useful I was seduced by the scroll on the front cover, but the pieces make useful fingering exercises although the numbering is on the small size. I've printed a couple out and may overwrite the tiny numbers. If you haven't got Kindle you can dowload it for free for Mac, P.C iPhone etc
14.
Bargain!!! Nicks a great guy and this is a superb starter bass.
Wow! + 1 (both remarks)
15. I'd just like one as an ornament. Seriously tho', Clarky's Ampeg Baby Bass that I owned has the original ali bridge and I did a lot of experimenting with different pups until I found one that worked. It's a trade secret now.
16. Price please or what would you like in return?
17. Wish my early ply basses had sounded as good as this Neil. Looks like you've caught the bug and I'm only pleased to be of assistance. As for theory I know all 3 chords!
18.
I had one but forget who I sold it to. I wasn't too impressed but I was trying a lot of pickups back then and might not have given it an honest workout. Not a lot of help really!
I've got one, I think it was yours Roger. I bought it to try on my Eminence on Gareth's recommendation but didn't get round to it. It's on my big Hungarian bass, it sounds ok but very low output compared to realist / bassmax etc
19.
Just make sure you give it back
Well actually it's back at mine I enjoyed playing it and it sounds great with the bassmax, no pre amp neccessary. The stock strings let it down a bit so tomorrow night Neil & I are going to fit a set of Super Silvers. Out with the angle grinder again
20. Phew, Clarky has come to his senses
21.
Superglue! Really, it works.
Thanks for the tip I'm going to take Neil's bass to my gig tonight (finger permitting) to see how it performs.
22. The magnificent saxophonist Tony Birkill at Harrogate Cricket Club, St. Georges Road
23. Cheers Neil, it's a bit sore but I'll give it a go. Might have to switch to fender or ask someone in the audience to sit in. Attached are pics of work in progress and the finished bridge.
24.
Oh no! I sympathise - I've got a cut on the tip of my index finger on my fretting hand, which means no DB and a limited amount of BG playing for the next few days. Splattering blood on strings and fingerboard may look very hardcore metal, but it ain't fun. Hope that cut isn't too bad and your finger gets well very soon.
Thanks, it's a slice off the side rather than a cut so I'm hoping I can play tonight. Just got the bassmax fitted and done a bit more to the nut and Neils new baby is sounding nice and playing much better. It's very good for a first bass, I'd be happy to gig with it.
25. We're on tonight with Tony Birkill, Ian Rose & Paul Smith if you're at a loose end. Harrogate Cricket Club 8.30 Free entry to basschatters
