If there's any bending or warping I'd replace it a.s.a.p. I had one snap on a gig , they go with a hell of a crack and can damage the front of your bass! I agree with keeponehandloose, theyr'e not too difficult to fit if you've got basic woodworking skills and patience.

I'm up for some testing at some point Tom.

I've got one attached to a bass at present, if you cant find one elsewhere I might be able to live without it for a while. Underwoods are great with the right preamp. I'm not saying they're the best, and they suit some instruments better than others, but I find if I'm struggling to find the right pup for a bass a trusty old Underwood will usually do the job. I find the Bassmax is an easy fix and works well without a pre amp.

Check this out This Kolstein Travel bass has a string stop of 39" which I think is about 1/2 size The newer model has a slightly longer speaking length of a little over 40" And here's Miroslav playing a big bass just to compare sound After I sold my Kolstein Travel bass to Clarky last year it got me thinking about the possibility of finding a good 1/2 size bass to replace it. I ended up with another Kolstein which I love, but I'd still like to find a decent 1/2 size to experiment with. If you're going to amplify the bass then a smaller instrument could have loads of benefits. i.e. easier to play? easier to transport, lighter weight, less feedback? Having owned 2 Kolsteins and an Eminence now the "bigger sounds better" argument is over for me. Sorry I've not found out how to embed a video yet
Well Plux's is fine (after a setup and a decent set of strings were put on it) You can here it here
Sounds good to me
I mean mine played straight out of the box after tuning up, of course
You were lucky every time I've been into Gear4music the double basses on show have been unplayable, and the guy behind the counter was totally ignorant about uprights.

amplification / feedback woes*NOW CURED*
Mr Bassman replied to artisan's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I use the MB210 for my louder gigs and I've always had plenty volume / headroom. The combo is bass heavy, I often have the bass control around 1/ 4 - 1/3 I never have the master past 1 0clock The Mitre is a small venue, I would normally take the MB200 head and a single UL110 to a venue that size. All I can think is the rest of the band are too loud. If they want to play authentic sounding rock & roll with double bass they should cut the volume to suit. Who was on drums? Animal? P.s. Don't forget the phase switch, can work wonders if you are close to the speakers, which I guess you were at the mitre. -

I've got a couple of travel basses which are great for tight spaces on gigs and ease of transport, but this seems ridiculous to me.
Don't know Lee's work at all. Any recommendations?
Here's a few albums he played on I just remember him as a real nice quiet friendly guy on the local scene who played some lovely fretless bass.
