    My Bassmax sounds fantastic on 3 or 4 different basses, I don't need an external pre amp for it. I used to plug direct into a Marbass LMK but more recently GKMB200 / 500, Shuttle3 or Acoustic Image Much darker sound to the Underwood which I love It's any easy fit as long as your wing slot is wide enough, too tight a fit can damage it.

    I owned this bass for a few years after being repaired and set up up by [url="http://www.stoppani.co.uk/index.htm"]George Stoppani[/url] It was set up for arco, which I was developing in a local orchestra until my unfortunate injury to my left hand about a year ago. I did use it for jazz occasionally and often got nice comments about the sound, especially from vocalists. It's seen some action over it's 100+ years but has mojo and character. If this were up for sale in a [url="http://www.contrabass.co.uk/2759.htm"]shop[/url] the asking price could be 5k or more I've got some pics somewhere and I'm happy to answer any questions.

    I didn't know it was too deep, I thought it might be too narrow for your thicker strings I wouldn't touch the fingerboard, stick with the card or leather if it works Black leather from your thong would be ideal

    try a bit of thin card under the string at the nut or fasten a cable tie around the neck / strings next to the nut to see if the buzz disappears
