1. I know a banjo player who had his car broken into the other night. Some low life left two banjos on his back seat!
2. Not everyone can be
3. Mine had Bag End drivers
4. I'll take the cab please
5. No worries I had a SWR 2x8 Baby Blue monitor a few years back, wish I'd kept it Thanks anyway
6. I'm curious about the 2x8 cab Did you sell it?
7. Yes, I bought one and returned it. It was absolutely useless. I tried it on several instruments and couldn't get a useable sound on any. The clamp can mark your bridge. The thread on Talkbas just fizzled out, I should have known better. Hope I haven't put you off Here's the original thread

9. Sorry mate how about these

11. I've seen and heard this combo It's in great condition and seems extremely versatile with it's different input choices And Neil is a nice guy
12. I love my UL110 cab, it sounds amazing and is so light. The new Ali 10" is heavier and you probably couldn't stand a pint on top of it!
13. Sounds a lot to me, I'd want the bridge and fitting for that. I fit my own bridges and I can't see it taking more than 2-3 hours
14. Left hand basses here Apart from converting the bridge, nut & soundpost the bass bar, (which runs top to bottom under the E string) has to be moved to the other side which requires taking the top off the instrument.
15. A few years ago I visited Anthony Houska's Contrabass Shoppe when he was in London. He's a nice guy and was very welcoming and helpful. He'd the biggest collection of basses I could have imagined. There was a bass around £6500 which I quite liked and he said take it with you and see how you you get on with it. I'd only just met him an hour or so before! The only stipulation was to have it insured. I couldn't take him up on that offer because I'd travelled down on the train. I enjoy looking at his website, one can learn a lot from browsing his pages I'd love to visit his new place but driving 200 + miles is less appealing nowadays.
16.
Thanks gents. Anyone come across Turner Violins in Nottingham (also in Birmingham)?
When I was looking a few years ago I was warned off Turners, they (Mr Turner) had a bad reputation. I ignored the advice and took a trip there and bought a nice bass, however I had a bad experience with after sales and would never deal with them (him) again. On the good side Kai Dase worked there at the time and did some good work on the bass.
17.
Can you teach me the other two then?
It's dead easy there's A and there's A minor then there's A demolished

19. Nice one Clarky bet he didn't eat his heart out over pickups, amps & strings
20.
I have an audition coming up and the intro to a couple of songs requires long arco strokes on the E and A strings. I stand sideways on so I guess that makes it French
Good luck with the audition matey
21. French or German pattern? Makes a difference how you hold the bow and the bass. If you stand with the bass sideways on you probably need a French. If you sit or stand behind the bass you might like the German style.
22. A friend of mine bought a couple of basses at Bonhams Auction on 23 June 2009. Lots 342 & 343 One French and one German c1900 flatback Having recently moved house he hasn't done anything with either and has decided to sell the German. It has a big sound but will need some t.l.c. I can find out more if you like Chris
23. Can you upload photos so we can have a look?
24.
25.
I couldn't get to the bash because I'm with the band transport and won't be up there until just before gig time.
That's a shame Roger Sod it then, let's all go to Canterbury, we could all stay at Beedsters
