1.
Hi! As a classical player I use a Steinberger CR 5 M for practising - and sound experiments. You can get a neck heel here: http://www.gollihurm..._CR_BASSES.html . More EUBs? http://ebass.nl/models/ The pickups of the Yammys are really very bad regarding the prize of the instruments IMHO. Best Thomas
The OP question was "How much can it will be close to real double bass?"
2. Looks nice, look after her
3. The SLB100 doesn't just feel like a real DB but it balances so well, it doesn't have the tendency to spin like many of the lighter weight E.U.B.'s (including the SLB200) The factory electrics sound good for arco but dreadful for pizz, but it's easy enough to add a pickup to improve as Beedster and myself have done. They are quite heavy but if it's for home use then that shouldn't be a problem. I also own a Clifton which has the body extentions, sounds great with a Wilson K4 pick up and is lightweight but I prefer the neck and feel of the Yammy. I'll be playing the Yammy tonight at the Harrogate Brasserie
4. In my experience the EUB that feels closest to the real thing is the Yamaha SLB100 It was designed for classical players to practice in silence. I use one (with modified electrics) on many of my gigs in preference to an acoustic.
5. I'd love this, especially as it's the red version, but I've too many amp/combos at present so someone please snap this up to remove the temptation.
6. I was afraid you might say that Rich will be on tour and the last gig is at the O2 on 3rd April
7. My Missus would hardly notice that down the side of the sofa. If it's still around at the end of the month I might see if my son can collect it for me as he has a gig in London.
8. Not sure how much you want to spend but I'd check out the Stentor Student 1950 I got a used one on the strength of this vid by bass chatter Hughbrad. I've got other more valuable double basses but this is easy to transport, fun to play ands sounds great acoustic or amplified with a Bassmax. http://youtu.be/4DFlTWfYF1A
9. Pete noticed I was looking for some Phil Jones stuff, offered me a good deal for some and posted with 24 hr delivery. It was really well packed and in excellent condition. He was very friendly helpful on the phone and in p.m.'s Wish I could have stretched to his red Bass Cub also.
10. Wish I'd known you were at Charlie's Place, it's within walking distance for me. Only trouble is it would take me twice as long to stagger home.
11. Hi Christian, I've had your number passed to me on several times but I don't think we've met yet. I'm just down the road from you in Harrrogate, maybe we should meet up sometime. cheers Keith
12. Thanks Clarky, glad I could help out.
13. I've been thinking about a CMD121P as a "do it all combo" plugging the fender into the front and upright / plat pro or whatever into the fx return. Good to know its a non starter.
14.
Worth £800 brand new so a real snip at just £250! Just need to find luthier who can repair the broken neck, mend the cross grain spilt top, patch the hole in the back where the sound post has punched through, refit the bridge, set the sound post, make good the varnish and set up all for under £550 - I think this is a *R.U.B.B.E.R. !
Some would call it Mojo
15. Me again, My turn to visit Peter to collect and and pay for a pickup, which is exactly as he described it, in mint condition. He and his lovely wife made me feel very welcome, we chatted about bass stuff for an hour or so. Great to see you both again and hope to see you in a couple of weeks.
16. Just bought some gear off Brian which arrived next day really well packaged, and he'd even gone to the trouble of including a couple of adaptors. Unfortunately a problem occurred during in transit which he agreed to rectify. Thanks for sorting it Brian
17. Just bought an amp from Ed which arrived really well packaged inside a gig bag that he included. He's really friendly and helpful, we had some long chats on the phone about gear and bass guitars etc. Thanks Ed
