1. +1 from me. Jeff's a real bass player's bass player. One of my big influences from when I was a youngster He's always pushed boundaries and innovated but not in an in a flashy your face manner, he manages to do all this while providing an incredibly solid foundation for Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam lost their way a bit in my opinion, but Jeff's playing has always made them fun to listen to regardless. Don't get me wrong though, I'm really enjoying the last couple of albums, they're writing some pretty awesome "dad" rock now, which is meant to be a compliment. Cheers, Eude
  2. Nice one Dave! I'm coming very close to shifting my LittleMark 250 to replace it with one of these. Can't wait to hear what you think of it! Even better that you'll be able to compare it to yer own MarkBass too Cheers dude, enjoy! Eude
  3.
Still trying to sort out finance but the good news is that they'll be stocking the RS112 shortly priced at £349.99.
That's awesome and terrible news my friend I might have to look into selling my lil' rig and investing in a TC Classic head and 2 of those 12" cabs now... What set up have you ended up plumping for?... Eude
  4.
My office is on the same street, I walk past the pub practically every day. I have seen they put gigs on quit regularly, good on them! Is it mostly jazzy/acoustic, or do they do rock stuff as well? I've also got a gig that night, but let me know if and when you play there again!
We'll be doing an acousticy set to be honest. Once played there with a full drum kit but it was a squeeze, so it's vocals, acoustic git, bass and cajon. We'll be doing one more gig in Dec hopefully so I'll let you know matey, but we'll be doing more gigs in Guilty Lilly for sure, it's top wee place. Have a good gig yourself too! Eude
  5.
Well, I have a gig at The Ark tomorrow night... should be one of our last in Edinburgh, which is nice We've got Henry's next month, but after that we're hitting the road and getting other stuff finished next year.
Good luck at the Ark mate! It's not a bad place to play if you get an OK crowd, just not very well run, they can't pour Guinness for toffee, but they at least have a good sound guy. My only experiences of playing there have been in a 5 band bum chain, so we just went on first, even though we where headlining (i got out voted) so the rest of the band could go home/get drunk. Have a good one! Eude
  6.
Guilty Lily's?
10 Points! Yeah playing there on Dec the 4th. I think it's free in, so if you're at a loose end, drop in and say hi, think we're on a bout 8:30. Cheers, Eude
  7. Bannermans can be awesome for some bands, but more often than not it's awful... I've played there with a band I was helping out for a while to all of 4 people. I also caught a friend's band, who make a living playing and recording in Canada play to 2 people, myself included - during the freakin' Festival!... Whistle Binkies is an interesting one, there's usually always a fairly reasonable and attentive crowd in there but they'd much rather hear Wonder Wall or Hotel California rather than anything original, and can be quite vocal about it. One for the "Ugly Juke Boxes"... My main problem with the whole thing in Edinburgh is that "promoters" don't seem to want to actually "promote" live music. They're quite happy to blanket email folks via MySpace to arrange for 14 mismatched bands to play on one stage but they then let go of the reins, expect the bands to arrange the sharing of backline, if necessary amoung, themselves and even worse, most of the time, expect the bands to sell tickets in order to try and earn at least some cash out of it and threaten to take them off the bill if they're not keen to do so. Has it always been like that? We used to arrange a monthly Friday night at "particular venue" but we gave up as they insisted on charging us for the use of the room and an absent sound engineer, even though they would make a fortune on the bar, which meant we had to charge at the door to avoid it leaving us out of pocket. We proved them wrong when we managed to convince them to let us have it for free for our Album Launch and the place was mobbed, partly because any passing trade could get in to check it out without being charged to get in. We where told by the duty manager that they had the best takings in that room ever on a Friday night that night and we foolishly assumed that we'd get the room for free from then on, but no, next month, right back to the same money grabbing arrangement. So we decided to can it. We tend to do wee acoustic shows these days in pubs that we know. We play to folks who know the music, sometimes get in new folks, have great fun and always get paid, which is a rare thing in Edinburgh, plus at our next one, we'll be quickly followed by a Burlesque show... Planning on arranging a on last decent sized (electric) "charity" gig before Chrimbo, but nothing concrete as yet. End of Rant (sorry) Eude
  8. Welcome dude! That IS a hell of a lot of basses! The guys are right, gigging in Edinburgh is pretty much A*S. Too many lazy promoters, greedy venues and 8 band bum chains. The best ones we've played in the last couple of years have been ones we've organised ourselves, which tend to be difficult thanks the to aforementioned greedy venues, or gigs outside of Edinburgh... Cheers, Eude

  11.
LOL! You beat me to it mate!! I'm all fuzzed out right now sorry so will accept your good luck wishes cheers!!
No bother mate If I manage to find the £40 soon, I'll take that AW3 back off you, but it'll be down to whether I can sell the Pickle Pie in time. I'll keep you posted. Eude
  12. Wow - I have a bad memory! Just occurred to me that I got my Pickle Pie off you and you got your AW3 off me! Small world... Well, if you want to swap back let me know dude, if not, good luck with yer sale Eude
  13. Hey man, you interested in any trades on the AW3? I had one a while ago and loved it, not sure why I got rid... What kind of condition is it in? I've got a Wren & Cuff Pickle Pie ( http://wrenandcuff.com/pickle_pie.html ) with the mid switch that I'd be willing to part with for it... It's the guitar version, but works really well with bass. It's a really versatile little pedal, perfect nic and looks the biz too. Let me know what you think. Cheers, Eude
  14.
I got a promotional mailshot from SoundsLive the other day publicising their new web site. Included were a number of discount vouchers including 10% off Orange amps. Not being one to ignore a bargain I placed an order for a 500-watt Terror Bass which instead of the listed £412.39 brought the price down to £371.15 + carriage. A good saving and certainly the best price I've seen. They are due in stock within 2 weeks so now I have to wait, and wait, and wait. It'll be interesting to see what they go up to when VAT rises again.
Nice one mate! I'm really keen to have a go with one of these myself, can't wait to hear how you get on. Hope you're keeping well Cheers, Eude
  15.
Orange PPC212 Closed Back, Ltd Edition 2009 White + Orange Dual Terror
Hot Hot Hot! I've seen the new Orange SP Bass Cabs for sale in black. I'll bet the new Terror Bass and those cabs in black would look so damn nice! Eude
  16.
They haven't got it listed but as they're having to order TC stock in (will be there within a coupla weeks) you may be able to order that in. I've had an email discussion and replies have been quick, friendly and helpful thus far. When I have my deposit from selling my rack stuff I may be tempted into asking about the 112 as well......... http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/idleparis/ I'll let you know if you don't find out before me
Nice one dude. Let me know how you get on. I won't be able to move on anything anytime soon, so I guess you'll know sooner than me Cheers, Eude
  17.
Cheers UB That's added to my 'I need this TC gear' thoughts and also given me some reassurance about dealing with Bonners. Was going to get the 210 and RH450 and if I need a little more bottom (ooooer!) might sling that cute 112 underneath which would also bring the height of the rig up a little more. But that's for another spend
Have Bonners got the 112 in stock? If so, how much they doing them for?... Eude
  18.
OMG, I turn my back for five minutes and my build thread gets hijacked by people advocating hard drugs... hmmmm that might actually be rock n roll Yeah, I've just fitted a GK3-B to my trb, and I have a Roland guitar synth incoming, so I'm thinking it would be nice to have the midi capabilities without all the pickup gubbins on the outside spoiling the lines. It's not 100% definate yet tho'. The inlays are narrow blocks of camphor (same as the top) instead of side dot markers that will extend along the top of the fingerboard to under the B string if that makes any sense
Wow, those inlays sound cool, very unique Sorry about the drugs, I blame Peter Eude
  19.
I read that as It just gets better from heroin in Hehe Great progress Steve, exciting isn't it.
Is that all research for the Social Work matey? Eude
  20.
Yeah, it looks that way, altho' I'm waiting for my fingerboard to come back from having some inlays done, and Alan is also looking into fitting a piezo bridge and hexpander, so I'm not sure if that will set my eta back a bit
Piezo and Hexpander? Wow Steve, that's gonna be one hell of a versatile bass! What are you doing inlay-wise? Eude

    33" scale
As many of you might know I bought Eudes Shuker Pub bass which is 33" scale. I didnt notice too much difference when I first got it in size but now ive been playing that all the time its weird going back to a 34" scale. I was wondering, is 33" classed as short scale? I dont know what defines short scale. Most importantly what other basses have this scale? Thanks guys
Hey Chris, how's it going? Hope you're still loving the Pub Bass I personally don't notice a huge difference going back to a 34" scale bass, I just need to watch where my left hand is for a little while just to get back to normal. One thing I didn't expect though was how alien it was jumping from 33" to 35"! I had a go of Peter's beautiful Spector 5 string at the Moffat Bass Bash and I found the damn thing almost unplayable standing up! The Spector design, in my opinion, doesn't make the most efficient use of the bridge position on the body, as there's a good inch or so of a gap towards the edge of the body which you can see here >> http://www.thebassplace.com/stock/spector-rebop4-flame.jpg So, to me, the 35" scale felt more like 36" at least as the left hand position was so exaggerated compared to what I'm used to! Shame, as the bass itself was gorgeous and sounded so so nice, it's just not designed for short stocky bass players
If 30" is short, 32" is medium and 34" is long is 33" therefore medium-long? Alex
I like the idea of "Medium-Long" mate
i dont own one but i have played a 33" scale 5 string strung with a B and it was perfectly articulate in the low register. i think it has alot to do with the standard of the basses construction and the standard of the preamp, same as any other bass. in my experience, if its well made and has a good electronics package going through a good amp, there's no reason why it shouldnt sound as good as a long scale bass strung with a B. edit: it was strung with D'Addario nickels. 130 B string
I've got a 33" Shuker 6 string string B to C and I've never really noticed any difference in note definition between the low B on it and the low B on other basses, including some 35" basses, although the low B on Peter's Spector mentioned above was legendary! I think you're right about the bass's construction, I don't think a mass produced bass would be able to deliver in this area, but a skilled luthier certainly can. Cliff Bordwell of CB Basses has even made some 32" 6 string basses which apparently have a very nice low B! The 33" scale also makes the upper register on the bass that little bit fuller and sweeter too, which going longer can detract from, from what I've heard. Also, I just strung up with some new D'Addario Nickels with a 135 B - tight as a gnat's Cheers, Eude

Love that shape man! Is that a standard Iceni shape? Very nice Eude
  23.
Got an email from Jon last night. Sounds like mine is about 3rd in his 'finishing queue'. I should get some photos soon showing off the birds-eye maple fingerboard (only photos I've got of this so far have it covered by masking tape). I'm hoping that it will be finished early next year.
That's a shame dude, that'll over a year since you started the thread You never know though, Jon might pull it out the bag and surprise you It's gonna be a hell of a bass regardless of when it arrives though! Eude
  24.
For all you guys who missed out on a fantastic weekend.... Like Shaun (4000), I too felt that there wasn't quite enough time to get through everything but considering that some participants travelled from both ends of the country(s) it would be hard to have it any other way. I think the more of these I attend the better I'll get at organising my own time.
Top post Rich, wasn't aware you where filming on the day! You can't have been that hungover either as there's no "shakey cam" effect going on. Was that done on your iPhone?... Cheers, Eude
  25. Wow - that was quick! Looking good Eude
