obbm's feedback

Another great cable from Dave! Was worried that having making a point of having good quality cables for my bass, I couldn't vouch for the quality of the XLR leads used to hook up from my DI to the recording desk/audio interface. Quick email to Dave and he put together a high quality Starquad Audio Cable with rock solid Neutrik XLR connectors. Should do the trick Thanks again mate! Eude
  4. That thing is pure sex, in the 80s! You must be very chuffed Eude

  6.
I'd go down the shuker route too. Maybe get an extra j pickup in the bridge.
+1 I'm sure Jon would do you about 3 or 4 of those for the cost of single Fender CS! Eude
  7.
I am very excited...I have a ****load of stuff to read for the biggest exam yet in my Law studies (that's civil law as opposed to British common law BTW) and the bass is the light at the end of the tunnel keeping me going.
Best of luck then mate, it'll be well worth it Eude
  8.
Thanks! I guess you already figured out I am "The_Owl" on Talkbass?
Yup, figured it out. Not seen any other Unicorn builds on any of the forums I hang around in. Looking great though, you must be very excited! Eude

  10.
OK, So I thought it was time this thread was rejuvenated - now that I have two Shukers (and a third on the way) Here's my gratuitious contribution...
Filth! Gorgeous looking basses there mate! Cheers, Eude

Only managed a quick look, but if you want me to cast a "professional eye" over it I'll see if I can fit some time in over the weekend. Eude
  12.
Your Wish has been granted Just in case you were interested, W&T have seriously updated their website. It's got a lovely light up red bass on the home page and lots of nice new pictures in the galleries http://www.wtbasses.net/home.aspx
Finally! Thanks for the heads up. I'll be giving it a good once over Eude
  13. I wouldn't be put off by long(ish) wait times, from any builder. Jon's basses tend to take a little longer than he quotes, but they're still worth it. I waited 12 weeks for my first Shuker and 12 months for my second which was a far simpler bass! If you look at other build diaries, it's not very common for anyone to get a even a relatively standard custom bass from any of the high end guys here in the UK in much less than 12 months at the moment. Custom basses take a while and given human nature, there'll always be delays and set backs as life finds a way to mess with everyone's work from time to time. To speed things up means improving workshop facilities and taking on more staff which means price increases. I'd rather wait 12 months for a bass with a lower price tag to be honest... Peted, I know this doesn't help with your frustrations, but I think you should just have a good chat with Jon, tell him how you're feeling about the situation and ask him how he can remedy it. As you know, he's an awesome guy, so he'll do everything he can to fix things Just my 2p. Eude

  16.
COME ON!!! Someone must have an opinion. Strat style profile on the front or not???????????
I would contour the back, but leave the front a bit more slab like, unless you go for the kinda angular contouring that you get on SGs... Eude
  17.
All parts have now arrived! Project is now put on hold til i finish my dissertation due in next week!
Nice one mate, good luck with yer dissertation! My 2p, I'd go for a really deep blue refin, or maybe metallic british racing green. Maybe you should open a poll?... Cheers, Eude
  18. Hey Scoop, meant to reply to this thread earlier, was on my hols and then swamped with work on my return - awesome Anyway, congrats on yet another awesome ACG! I actually had a wee peek at your bass just before it was finished, absolutely incredible! I bet you're one happy customer. So, you must own the most ACGs now right? I'd like to be able to afford to offer some competition on that front, but not going to be much movement in that department for a little while at least. I am still very very happy with my Finn though Cheers for now matey, Eude
  19.
cheers fellas, I'm counting down the days..... Ewan, now I'm jealous, it would've been ace to live a bit closer to Alan so i could've called round to have a look a couple of times, but I'm too far away.
It's a blessing and a curse matey! Every time I pop round I end up hatching plans for more and more basses. I purposely don't spend too much time looking at wood now, as I'll end up asking Alan to keep stuff aside which then leads to scraping a deposit, although, for the moment, short of selling semi-vital organs or my employers throwing a surprise mid-recession bonus at me, I won't be splashing out for a little while. Already got the next two mapped out, best stop there for now... Your bass is going to be an absolute stunner though Eude
  20.
Another update from Alan, I'm really chuffed with how it's turning out, I had a rough mental image, but it didn't do the real thing justice, even at this stage
Saw this in the flesh yesterday Steve, it's absolutely amazing! You're going to be one happy bunny... Eude
  21.
Don't think there are any of me using this live at the one show I used it for, I am bigger than the usual person, but can get a picture sometime.
Hey man, still think it's a shame you're parting with this lovely bass, and that I can't afford to take it off your hands of course... As you know I've got a 5 string Finn SC now, so I might be able to get some pics from my next show, once I get back from my hols in 2 weeks. Best of luck with the sale and here's a free Bump Eude
  22. Beautiful bass mate Jon makes amazing basses, and his Jazzes are the Mutt's Bits! Eude
  23. Can't believe this is still here! I saw this in it's raw form before Alan finished it, it's a stunning example of an ACG bass and a no radius fingerboard is a revelation once you try it. I would've had to find the cash somehow if it wasn't so big, I only play 33"ers these days. Best of luck with the sale mate Free BUMP on me. Eude
