The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
eude replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Interesting. Do D'addario make Fender's flatwounds too? I had a set on a 5 string a while back and I was super impressed with them, they were fairly inexpensive too. I wonder what set they were based on... -

They're my favourite string. I used to use DR nickels, I loved the warmer tone of SunBeams, but also the feel and bite of the Nickel LoRiders, Newtone, at least the hex nickel ones seem to sit firmly between the two sonically to my ear, and they last a long ol' time. -

Status Graphite sell short scale flats, darned good price too. I think they're made by Picato for them, could be wrong. -

Ah yes, roundwound only. If you look to Europe, there's Galli and Tomastik who both make decent flats. -

Assuming they go back on @ped's agreement, and to be fair, they have form, you can't go wrong with Newtone strings, made in the UK -
Thank you mate, and yeah 4s look so tiny compared to 6s. That 4 has a super skinny 36mm nut too to be fair though.

No, simply an optical illusion I've tried a few multiscale basses, all really nice stuff, but I'm not sure that the fanned frets really makes enough of a difference to me at least. The physics behind it all makes perfect sense, but when it comes to actually just playing, I'm not sure it worth all the hassle. Being a bit of a short arse, and having played a 36" bass for a few years, I just prefer to be able to play without having to worry about the impact on my body. 31.5" just fits me perfectly with no real compromises. The low B at 31.5" works great with good strings, helped massively by luthier voodoo from Alan at AC Guitars, and everything above that seems all the better for the shorter scale. It has the weight and added low end you get from a short scale, with a bit more clarity and definition, and the G and C strings are super sweet and full sounding. Can you tell I love it?

Better pics, and hopefully some audio/video coming, but for now, here's the bass with my 4 string ACG Salace SC E Type from 2024, both 31.5" scale.

My estimation is that they would be in line roughly with Overwater's pricing these days, I expect you could probably a bit more than that in 2026.
-
Their pricelist is 9 years out of date. https://www.seibass.com/_files/ugd/0d5a6d_4f689b24da564e98b41449865297a03d.pdf I'd expect to see some big jumps since then, EVERYTHING went up by a lot between 2017 and now.

Korg Pitchblack PB-01 Tuner. Simple, solid pedal tuner, great with bass, pretty well known, so I don't need me to go on and on about it. Near mint condition, with box and instructions, only a little residue on the bottom from velcro which I; have removed, which I expect will clean off nicely with a bit of elbow grease. Full info here >> https://www.korg.com/uk/products/tuners/pitchblack/ Moving on as my wife bought me a new tuner for Xmas. Looking for £30 plus postage, UK only. Any questions, just shout. Cheers, Eude

Yup, makes sense. The bass presets in there are brilliant, the only thing that frustrates me is you need to remember where you saved stuff, "U8 Bank 4" makes sense until you power down, but when I power up again the following day, I rarely know what I saved where. I need to write stuff down! Also, it's a little annoying that you can't easily use the compressor and octave together without having to use the Modulation area for the compr, and then you can't use any chorus... I wish they'd have separated out the compressors. Anyway, I'm still very much enjoying mine. I still have my proper pedalboard, but for mucking around, and rehearsal etcs, the ME-90B very much does the job. I was tempted by the GX10, but I get peeved when us bassists are an afterthought. Anyway, I hope you continue to figure it all out.

Did you have the ME-90B before this?

It's done! It will be with me next week, pics to follow once it lands

@EddieG hasn't been on this site since June 2025, I hope he's OK.

That is weird, it literally only exists on that eBay advert. i wonder if it's a prototype?

Looks good! Warwick's amps were always underrated for some reason, their original Wamp range back in the day was brilliant, massive range of stuff, very powerful and I never heard anything bad about them. I played through them as house rigs at gigs and rehearsal studios, and I thought they were fantastic. They made some very cool looking gear... Keep us posted on what you think... Eude

Well that's pretty tidy! Hopefully it lands soon dude.

Any more progress dude? I ordered a new custom ACG short(er) scale 6 a month or so after I asked about your coming shorty Sei and it's nearly done!
