How's the 30" 6er coming along?
-
Ah yes, it's a lively place that one!
-
Yeah, it's all crumbled away, but it has everywhere. Croydon is still making music though, although less of my kind of stuff. I've barely been an active musician since i moved here, as we immediately had our first kid within months of leaving Clapham. I have had a few jams at the studios on Purley Way though, wasn't too bad actually, but the Hive Room(s) out in Horley is way better. Never owned an Ibanez, or a PJB, so wasn't me 😎
-
We're actually on the Purley Oaks side of Sanderstead, so probably a mere 10 minute walk or so from where you where! It's madness!
-
Fair point, we're in Sanderstead, and it's not really changed much in 13 years, not negatively at least.
-
Croydon really reminds me of my hometown, Glasgow, in a good way, no posers, no pretence, and SO much potential. The previous 14 years of government mismanagement, of everything, made a HUGE mess of so many places, Croydon included, but things could be on the up soon. South Croydon hasn't really been as badly influenced by the changes, it's the posh part of Croydon and it's actually a pretty nice place for families, that's where I'm raising mine. Best of luck with it all dude!
-
Time to escape the Tango Shit Gibbon? 😁 Time to return to Croydon? Been here in South Croydon for 13 years now, and it's not all that bad...
-
43"?! That's wild!
-
Was this your old Shuker Horn? Where did this one end up?
-
Nice one, you can't go wrong with and East Preamp, and Jon does make very nice slim yet stable necks. Looks like a cracking bass.
-
That's a bit tasty! How long did the build take? Can't wait to see the spec too. Congratulations dude.
-
I would thoroughly recommend going with 33", shorter if you dare too Also, Newtones are brilliant strings, and perfect for ACGs, hex core nickels being my favourites, but before I rediscovered Newtones (long story), I had no issues using other strings manufacturers too, DR, Dunlop, D'Addario etcs. You might end up with a little more of the string on the tuner than you would prefer, but it doesn't effect anything happening between the nut and the bridge, and if you ask nicely, you could ask Alan to make the B and E strings string through, which would take up any excess length.

If you're going for a 6, I would lean towards the RetroB for better lap balance, and I guess it would be a better fit for your band. The 33" scale thing, I wouldn't worry one bit, I play 31.5" scale ACGs now, 4s, 5s and 6s and the low Bs are fantastic, 33" will be just fine. All my original ACGs were 33" and I never had an issues.

Very kind of you dude. The MC pickups are very much a full range pickup, very clear, powerful and even across the range of the bass. The regular B Series pickups are very very good too however, but each different model has it's own tonal input to be the mix, PB is a split coil P style, FB is a stacked sidewinder humbucker, SB is a single coil and the RFB is a side by side Musicman type are arrangement. I would agree that the preamp is probably more Alembic than Wal in flavour, as the range of the ACG filters is much wider than the Wal, like the Alembic, but you also have more control over the filter frequency, as you can adjust the level on the fly. The DFM also has a global mid/treble stack, whereas the EQ01 has a high pass filter, both are a really nice addition, beyond the limits of a Wal preamp. You can also add a passive tone knob too, which can be useful. I don't think you'd have any trouble getting some Grateful Dead tones using either ACG filter preamp. Where are you with your specs so far?
-
I haven't really got much recorded to show off the DFM preamp I'm afraid, but I have a video of my fretless 6er, which has the DFM, but no MC pickups. I also posted some recordings of some Flea lines in another thread, trying to ape his tone on Blood Sugar Sex Magik. This is was my Uber Finn 5er, which has the MC pickups and a DFM preamp. Hope that helps! On a side note, I you certainly won't be disappointed if you go for an ACG, they are incredible instruments! Eude

Is there a modern bass head or combo with integrated reverb?

This model isn't so old, but I appreciate the previous versions had been around a LONG time. https://www.boss.info/uk/products/dual_cube_bass_lx/ -

Oh, and the TC Electronic TonePrint stuff has the option of using some reverbs I believe? -

The Roland Cube Combos have some built in stuff? -
4 years and it will all be over, one way or another Gives Peavey plenty of time to get all this stuff right.

I actually think that their gear was so well designed and built that perhaps they had to change things to try and get folks to buy new gear? Sadly they just went in the wrong direction. They could really do something here though, if they keep this 70s, 80s and even 90s look going with reissue style products, built with modern features. Sadly, Peavey don't currently seem to be able to do anything quickly For obvious reasons, hopefully, I'm not going to be buying anything new fro the US any time soon, but hopefully in 4 years time there might be some cool stuff to ponder.
-
Yes, but I expect it's the same power stage as the newish Trace 1200W job. That sounds wonderful and is very very loud. Peavey and now Trace too have never taken the pee with their ratings, even with class D. If it's 1200W it's 1200W.

Show us your rig of choice for the weekend ** Basschat edition**

Yup, the main board covers the entirety of the face of the amp, and they're not keen on a redesign. A real shame, as they are one of the best amps on the market, but it feels like they've been left behind a bit. That said, I'd have another in a heartbeat, and if I ever ended up on bigger stages again, I would absolutely have one. -
I'm really happy to see this. I loved Peavey stuff back in the day, even the 90s stuff. I really hope they keep running with this homage effort. They've re released the Decade and there's a handful of new preamp pedals, all with the classic 80s and not so classic 90s styling.

I think it's a "slap ramp" to tighten up the popping part of the equation.
-
That's a fair point, I'll wind it in a bit. I guess the differentiator here is that both Tech21 and DarkGlass make a lot of the kind of pedals I was talking about, so they will get it right, unlike the rest of them
