1.
I do like the engineering innovation in these! The problem is that front chamber generates a lot of unwanted resonances, as well as providing a Helmholtz resonance at the slot port, so although you gain bass output and gain improved midrange dispersion, there's a lot of midrange colouration. And I don't think the tweeter reaches low enough to match up with where the slot is acting as a lowpass filter on the woofer. I guess it's using a typically low excursion high efficiency Trace Elliot woofer, and the bandpass design is very good at reducing excursion for a given output, so it'll play louder than a conventional combo with the same woofer. Good way to get a lot of output and a lot of audibility out of a small box - certainly one of the lowest power combos that is giggable for many bassists.
ever wonder what cabs you may have ended up designing if you had started 20 years ago?
 2. I would have thought the Harley Benton in your sig would be the perfect bass to slap on. I'm no expert but I would have though a normally set up bass would work with non super heavy strings... you just kinda hit it with your thumb, wonder why it sounds so bad, look up some videos of people teaching slap, keep trying, it still doesn't sound great... and then eventually you are practicing and realise it sounds right!
 3.
Alan makes those too..
yeah i know!
 4.
Hey! So basically I wanted a P bass but with a shorter scale, not a Fender body shape and with Alan's craftsmanship. So given how awesome my Finn 5 is I spoke to Alan about this and he made it come out 10x better than I could have hoped The spec is: Finn DC Swamp Ash body (2 piece) Maple neck with acrylic impregnated maple fingerboard Overwound PB pickup Volume and passive tone only 32" scale It's ace, plug in and play and off you go with a superb tone and very easy playing neck. Love it
that looks lovely - I'ld love an ACG - but I like one-wood bodies and simple looking fretboards.
 5. also .... go to carvings website, look at the photo of the back and read the label... it is switching...
 6. it utterly depends on the type of power supply I think. Isn't there a guy selling a Carvin head for cheap on here?
 7.
I must admit, I've been able to discern so little difference between different brands of ECC83 (including Mullard, Brimar and modern Electro Harmonix) when I tried swapping them over that I couldn't be sure I wasn't imagining any differences. This was in both my guitar amp and the Carlsbro PA head I used to use for bass. This could be because both have very clean running preamps that don't have enough gain to get gritty, so other amps might have shown up the differences more strongly. Alternatively, I may have cloth ears!
the difference for me wasnt stupidly big... but it was different - a bit like tap water... same drink but different taste around the country
 8.
No mate. Valve geekhere too. Looking for glass to put in my Aguilar DB 680.
any idea about what I've bought?
 9. hmm title too cryptic to get any responses...
 10. the radius is one of those bass designs that just look so good - one of the basses on my "would like to try" list
 11. The ECC82 was nice too, but obviously I had to crank the gain to get the same volume out which wasn't ideal.
 12. Yay NPAVD that's New Preamp Valve Day! So for a while I've had a Mesa walkabout - love it. And been kinda interested in what other tubes would sound like in it ... but put off by the sometimes silly prices old valves go for... anyway saw someone selling untested NOS valves on eBay and thought why not... ended up getting two - an ECC83 and a ECC82 - I know I don't have a use for the ECC82 and don't know what I'll do with it... but... Left to right... Telefunken ECC82 (probably actually made by siemens as no diamond on the bottom?) if the code is correct made June 1953 the Mesa 12ax7a pulled out the amp... Phillips Miniwatt Ecc83 from the 3rd Week of April 1969 I think. First off - I bought these not knowing what really they were... and not knowing if they work... they do, and I think I've worked out what they are... but I've no idea if they are any good as old valves go... Obv. the Telefunken isn't the right valve for the Walkabout, I put it in to see if it works (it does) but the Phillips is amazing - first off it both valves look like they've been built in the future compared to the crude looking modern valve. It's hard to describe how it sounds different - it's clearer sounding, the attack is punchier, and most of all the high mids are a lot lot softer. There seems to be more harmonic stuff going on, it sounds more musical whereas before it was angular and harsh. So all in all a good punt!
 13.
http://www.jflatandthesharps.co.uk/ Sick as chips! Highly recommended. Brass section, lady backing vocals and generally awesome.
cheers for the tip - they sound good!
 14. Soul funk and motown type stuff rather than kings of leon covers it what i meant...
 15. Typing quickly while at work... so that may not have made the most sense
 16. Soul dancy function bands.... pro quality for corp event. .. any recomendations to add to list?
 17. I was in kirkliston this weekend - doh
 18.
Its coming home with me this Sunday, can't wait!
good! Im currently about ten miles away for the weekend and was likely to get in trouble with the wife
 19.
.... the only possible change I might make to mine would be to have it headless but it would be sacrilege to do that to it now. Just means that if/when I sell the Ritter I have to resist not commissioning one. I highly recommend them and believe that they're very underestimated. If you haven't already tried one - you should.
I think 2-3 times I almost bought that bass.... and then you come along teasing me by flashing photos of it....
 20. beastin' amp
 21. calling CHRISDABASS
 22.
I have a Mesa walk about for sale including combo and ext cab over in the amps/ cabs for sale section..... A snip compared to this price An absolute mini mister of a rig
I know I keep looking at it and wondering what a 2x15 walkabout sounds like!
 23.
After owning the T90 for about a year and using it it various situations I'm still impressed. Ive done +5000 venues with it and it kicks some serious s*#t. I don't think Ive even had it past 3 or 4 on the volume. Its way louder than my fender baseman 100 was for sure. ANd the DI is Great BTW!
What cabs are you using it with. Plus 5000 venues in a year is seriously impressive - what's that 13 gigs a day?!
 24.
On hold pending pickup
thankfully!
 25.
There's been a long standing discussion about the 12" version being preferable to the 15". I've owned both and whilst slightly different, I think 'better' is not a word that comes into the discussion, it's more of a horses-for-courses issue really. I would certainly think very carefully before you traded one for the other, because whatever the reason for letting the 15" go, that reason would almost certainly still apply to the 12", unless it's a non-musical thing such as the former won't fit into your car boot but the latter will
briefly what are the horses and courses?
