  1. I've got the wood parts in the garage all ready to put together into a sub variant of the BCcab
  2. maybe that's not the best if we are continuing the dating app analogy - it reads differently in that context
  3. "My Beedster™ technique can make even a dead sounding bass sound great. My years of skill with a screw driver led me to find out ways to wield my tool to unleash the Beedster™ mojo."
  4. was that my old one? Sunburst '57ri?
  5. Person of colour ???
  6. so you would seek a mythical holy grail rather than a mythical investment. The first set of JV (with Fender logo and Squier series) were very good and also collectable as there's not many of them - they drive a high price because they were good and also cos of the collectible nature of them. As the price of them goes up there comes a market for "JV Squier" - where it serves any seller well to try and pretend that all JV Fender/Squier are created equal (they are not) or that they have US parts and hardware (they do not, at least for basses).... generally though Japanese Fender/Squier are pretty good but seem to have a very large asking price. Are they objectively "better" than a US Fender from that era - the better ones anecdotally are... are they better than current US fender? who knows - I've played some dogs from the US fender factory the last few years.
  7. So you think a JV Squier shouldn’t be sold for more than £100? if you’ve got one can I buy it off you?
  8. Though I would say that I’ve kept quiet as it’s something I’ve got involved in in the past it’s not my main professional skill set, so if someone else knows more than me, or you’ve tested it and it works... ignore me!
  9. We are using a black magic atem mini - it’s a little 4 input video mixer that will stream directly. into it we’ve got some camera they bought that can pan and zoom and two pocket mini cameras that my work loaned. The 4th input is the words /pot from a PC with some of it set as a colour to be keyed out. the audio is fed in directly from the desk. the nice thing about the atem mini is it will take hdmi in - so a lot of nicer digital cameras will be able to be used as cameras. Professionally I’ve helped out with video on a few live events in the past @owen I would be sceptical of a WiFi network being reliable enough for live broadcast/streamed video without lagging or glitches
  10. Same. its an odd time. Some folk are working but unable to spend ouwt as you can’t go out so have spending money. Then I know working musicians, and people around music and events and there’s literally no work on
  11. I'm sorry to hear about the health issues @gafbass02 That bass looks crazy (in a good way) - it looks like it's got thumb bass pickup placement ... but on a stretched out body
  12. on a budget mass-produced bass retailing for £330 I would think that looks all ok to me.
  13. Out of interest...How are you going to buy multiple pickguards for that one?
  14. Right - just looked too complex to draw whole thing but it’s this one... https://bartolini.net/docs/ntmb-wiring-archive/ Only change is the volume pot is wired like this with the switch. So yellow goes via switch. bridge pickup switching is simple, just look up humbucker coil switching online- it’s wired neck parallel bridge I think
  15. There's two parts of this, the existing preamp and the East. It's a 1999 US Lakland and has the slightly darker Bartolini pups and original preamp ... I don't know if it was just me, or just my ears but I couldn't get on with the original preamp... the bass boost turned everything to mush, the mid cut turned the bass off, there were 4 different settings for the mids inside and I couldn't get any of them sounding great... What was wrong with it? Not sure. I think mainly how my ears were hearing it, and probably the it needed more input or something cos it seemed to sound better the louder I hit the strings. After 4-6 months of fiddling It was annoying enough that the bass was going to go... but the core sound unplugged of the bass is really nice... so.... The East was worth trying out. His preamps (IMO) are amazing. I find the Uni pre to be really really clean sounding. By that I mean not much distortion or colouration to the sound. I'm using a very good DI signal and Hellborg preamp I used to own as my yardstick to what a clean bass sound sounds like. It's high fidelity without putting very much colouration in at all. I've tried the Glockenklang 2 band... and if you boosted anything then you could tell it's sound signature and the fact it was a Glockenklang - the east doesn't do that. Active buffered blend, so the pickups aren't interacting from each other.... a tunable bass and treble control... plus a bright pick attack switch to instantly push the bass into a completely different sound (really good with the slightly darker sound pups) swept mids - which I find super easy to use... and a passive roll off too.... From spending ages playing with the old preamp I now have a setting for each pickup setting, and then can use the passive tone to taste... which is great. (bare in mind I've not really been playing much this year! :D) For balance... the Eq is clean like a PA desk - and powerful too... I think it was @peteb who pointed out that +15db of bass boost, in the wrong hands is not going to be good at all. So if you're someone who likes a preamp to give a certain colour, or want to turn everything full up... there might be better preamps for you...
  16. and isn't that just the ones you've still got?
  17. I've got one in a bag in my spare room I took out of my 55-94. What exactly are you trying to do? (ie my work is mental at the moment - so I can do a detailed diagram but it might be a few weeks... if it's a more specific question than that ask away. from memory it's not wired any differently than a standard Bartolini preamp... )
  18. For me... Best Buy: East Uni-Pre 5. Off someone here at a great price. It took a Lakland bass that sounded alright, but struggling to an amazing sound. He really is a genius John East. Worst: East Uni-Pre 5 ... er it's the only bass related thing I've bought this year. Mostly I slimmed my bass wall down from 4 basses to 2... and then preceded to get tempted by vintage precision basses.
  19. Three Jazzes.... Where's Lozz196 and what have you done to him? This really is a year of unprecedented changes and events. Probably, show off! Hasn't it got loads of different compressors in it you can change?
  20. No gain reduction meters on both HX ... the default settings are a bit gain boosting too ... but it’s good
  21. LukeFRC

    PJ conundrum

I was just going to suggest this... there might be things that only pop out at volume in the mix. Not literally pop out.... unless it’s dead spots or something.
  22. have you got a link to your Memoire? Be nice reading if Google translate is up to it!
  23. that's from the "sold" section of his website... but I get your main point RE this bass
  24. it is worth a bit more than £7k... https://www.andybaxterbass.com/collections/fender-precision-bass/products/1957-fender-precision-bass-2-tone-sunburst-2 In my search for a precision I actually ended up chatting to the seller the OP links too about vintage fenders. From chatting to him I think you're right that the vendor is probably ok, the sanity of vintage fender prices....
  25. Reverb prices generally can be a bit bonkers
