  1. visually though it does look a wee bit odd on that bass.
  2. I heard Thundercat had to get Ibanez to build him a 6 string to keep up with the parts you had laid down on a 4 string. He was a bit annoyed that someone had pulled the emergency stop chain on the train he was on...
  3. I've had a fretless a few times. I end up sounding just like I do on a fretted but sometimes slightly out of tune, and with more slides. Probably tells you more about my playing than fretless though.
  4. Maple fretboard is going to be harder to do as you will need to relaquer it.
  5. I heard he slept in and Zawinul had to call you in to lay down the bass parts that day.
  6. HXstomp - feed in two signals and process them separately and mix to mono.... (or send two signals too the PA) Did he play a bass you had defretted?
  7. this topic has been done at least once I think... you fit the bits on a bass to get the result you want. I personally think that the BBOT is a big part of the precision sound. Others would disagree.
  8. why did it take me via facebook?? here's a clean link https://www.statii-catalogues.com
  9. For benefit of doubt my previous post is based on the duty on guitars quoted previously in this thread and the information in the quoted Guardian article
  10. sorry I had just seen the guardian article and was looking around to see if there was a discussion about it anywhere... my rough estimate reading the article - fully expecting this to be wrong but someone correcting me will be useful for everyone... - buying a bass from Thomann will go up by the price of duty (3.7%?) And the postal companies handling fee. Thomann will sell VAT free and then UK VAT gets levied so that part shouldn’t change. - say I wanted to buy a bass secondhand, off here or Bassics of wherever - that’s not (price of bass plus postage) + 3.7% duty +20% VAT +handling fee So a £1000 bass that cost £100 for postage from the EU and insurance will change from costing me £1100 this year to costing £1369 plus handling charge next year?
  11. Man, every so often a google search takes me there - it’s like a religious cult - like a load of people have read their Ernie Ball corporate literature and tattooed it into their soul. I found a thread about the difference between pre-EB and EB basses... ”the old ones suck” “no difference, the current ones are just better” “all the necks were defective untill EB sorted it out” “I’ve had 50 old ones and only 2 were good, I’ve had 50 EB and they were all amazing” etc etc three pages in... ”well they sound different, I prefer them” ”well yes there is that” ”and the necks are really nice” ”well yes, but apart from the necks, the nice sound, the inventing the design etc - what has musicman ever done for us ?(before the messiah Earnie Ball showed us the true path?)” Talk bass has so many banned members. Maybe that is why most people just stick to posting their own bass as the answer to every question and then recommending a tortoiseshell scratch plate on everything...
  12. Nice one @AndyTravis
  13. Stingray best and Fodera worst?
  14. It’s different and you will need to get used to it is probably better than “very difficult”
  15. Warwick moves from the old West German factory to their current site in the old DDR in 1992 - there were a few changes in hardwear around this time too which means, for my money, I would be tracking down pre 1992 versions.
  16. Some eras had truss rods you could slide out and replace.
  17. Not sure Andy is a satenist - Sultan is Andy’s dealer/enabler in disguise as a delivery driver ...
  18. I note your other half has tied the door shut to make sure Sultan doesn’t arrive again
  19. @warwickhunt....
  20. But I thought it could explain this bit of King Kunta by Kendrick Lamar “When you got the yams—(What's the yams?) The yam is the power that be You can smell it when I'm walkin' down the street (Oh yes, we can, oh yes, we can) I can dig rappin', but a rapper with a ghostwriter? What the funk happened? (Oh no!)“ maybe he’s talking about the bass players Yam - Yammy - Yamaha???? but then realise thundercat plays Ibanez so possibly not
  21. Erm - I think @StickyDBRmf is referring to calling a Yamaha “yammy” rather than any particular sound the bass makes!! (unless Nathan East pops up as a singer in the records singing “Yammy Yammy Yammy”.)
  22. Serious question - anyone who’s been scammed contacted the journalist see if there’s another story about a load of bass players being ripped off now ...
  23. On the flip side I was playing my Lakland 55-94 for quite a while before I realised it was 35”. hand stretch Was less than for a 34” Warwick thumb!
  24. Me three. Though I’ve never tried to do play like Mark king
