1. The main difference I notice between my 34" and 35" is that chords are a little more of a strain to play (although the action is set higher than my 34") and that muted notes when playing fingerstyle are a lot clearer and firmer sounding. I don't know if that's due to the scale length or piezo pickup though. I like the feel of both but 34" definitely feels a lot more comfortable for me. I can't say scale length would sway my choice of wether to (or not to) buy a bass. Unless it was a short scale, in which case I wouldn't buy it...just hate the feel of them, feel like a guitar to me
2.
These look great
For such a cheap and cheerful little box it's astonishing how good the sound quality is! Think you could easily pay 3/4 times the amount and get not much better audio-wise.
3. I use one of these and I love it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Power-SA-50-TDA7492-stereo-Amplifier/dp/B008KLJWGO/ref=sr_1_8?s=receiver-speakers&ie=UTF8&qid=1351351220&sr=1-8 more pricy but my dad has 2 of these in his set-up and they sound fantastic http://www.lintone.co.uk/integrated-amplifiers/rega-brio-r-amplifier-black-2014-117-3050.php Cambridge audio are always good as well.
4. Fender (all excluding the Aerodyne Jazz) - Just look boring, and from what I played, never felt very nice. Alembic - look bloody awful B.C Rich - look and unless you go for an extremely high model the tone seems to sounds impressively bad
5. Carlsberg really is sh*t
6.
I think slap bass is really cool sounding, but sometimes used in a totally unmusical fashion. While playing at blistering speeds can be used to great effect, if you do it for too long it does just get boring!
This.
7. Wouldnt tuning 2nd fret on E string work?
8. Going to try out one of these tomorrow and just wondering if any basschatters have owned or tried out one of these and your views on it? Also, I'm not sure if this should be in the gear section or not? Apologies if it's in the wrong section. Cheers!
9. Les Claypool manages it...
10. I was recently told whilst preparing for a recording the other day "don't be as good!". Seems to be catching on...
11. His house is beautiful. Great playing too!
12. Saw a band post that they were looking for a bassist on Facebook a few weeks ago and had an audition last night and it all went great! Great guys and the music (although not always what I'd choose to listen to) playing it is hellova fun. Been searching for a good 16 months for a band that will regularly rehearse and take things a bit more seriously. And despite being the youngest by a good 15-20 years we all got on great and they seemed to be fairly impressed with my playing so happy times
13. Think I need to get one of these as a warning when I try out for new bands...
14. 2 contrasting bands I've discovered lately http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I83Xp7itj8c
15. Last song I learned was Unretrofied by The Dillinger Escape Plan. Last song I tried to learn and failed, Power by Marcus Miller.
16. Thinking back to it. In the 3 times I saw him, I don't think Les Claypool smiled once.
17. I've barely done any gigs myself but been to plenty so this is more from a watching standpoint. Smile! There's nothing worse than seeing a band play where they all look miserable
18.
dude I am interested but not till the end of the month. can you wait that long?
I'll hold it for you. Sold pending etc
19.
I know man, that's cool I really wanted to like this guy, I've read a lot about him, he was a bad lad in his youth and I thought he might have something interesting to say on the bass, but for me he's just another soloist lacking anything deep and warm in his execution and pales next to others in his class. Sorry mate.
No need to apologise, it's not me playing! I was fairly impressed with his technique etc, hadn't heard anything sounding like this before. Also my first time (knowingly) hearing a Zon bass and I enjoyed the tone.
20.
I might suggest you needed some affirmation, hence your posting it
I was more just wanting to share it incase anybody else liked it but okay.
21. Sounds great to me. That's all that matters. To each their own and all that, eh?
22. Ever since I started playing I've just learned everything on my own (despite spending a year in college doing music, I received literally no help at all, dreadful tutors.) I have never had a lesson but this is not due to me being to stubborn to get one or anything, I've just never had the money to do so. I would love to get lessons at some point.
23. It does seem a little emotionless, I do agree. But audibly, it sounds great to me.
well slap my thigh! would prefer a decent cup of tea tbh
have both!
24. Not sure if this has been posted on here yet but this is fantastic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzlCJTNn550
25. Last bump before it's thrown off a wall whilst I cry that nobody wants it.
