Arif Mirabdolbaghi (Protest the Hero) Les Claypool (Primus + various other bands) Ryan Martinie (Mudvayne) Trevor Dunn (Mr Bungle) Justin Chancellor (Tool)

When actually thinking about it, I've only saw two of my 'bass heroes' Les Claypool (both dates at Royal Albert Hall this year and Manchester Last year) Arif Mirabdolbaghi. Yes. I googled his second name.

Although not quite to the same level of issues as you've endured. November 2010 My lung collapsed (twice) and I spent the full month in hospital unable to move for the most part. It made me appreciate my family a lot more and I'll be honest, ever since then I've been more willing to try new things and generally been a happier person.

I've never played a free gig (I'm finding it impossible to find a group of reliable people to even get a band together) but I probably would. I'd rather play for free than not play. I took up music because I enjoy it not to make money. I would much rather play for money obviously.

I used to have Ultimate Ears Triple Fi.10's (until I sat on them by accident). They were great, but I only really used them for listening to music and playing in the house. But they were definetly worth the money I paid and theyve went down a fair bit in price since I bought them.

I do enjoy a bit of Enya...

I like this thread. It also just dawned on me that I've been playing for exactly two years now (give or take a day or two). I love it more than I did when I started now.

I will admit, I personally don't like using the low string all the time, I try to use it sparingly but not really possible in some sub-genres or with certain guitarists

I think a lot of it is just that they use it sparingly. I know Mudvaynes bassist barely ever uses it unless it sounds right (like on Under my Skin) but he does tune GCGCF or F#BF#BE, which is already ridiculous! I do think it's just a case of, use when Nessescary. Protest the Hero's bassist is probably the best example I can think of. He uses the low string quite a lot but still knows when it wouldn't sound like rubbish. Also, forgot to mention dynamics. Playing a C on the Low B string creates a completely different feel than playing it on the A string, adds impact I feel.

Ive only ever had right hand fingertip pain if I was tapping (i mean trying to tap). I powered through it now I don't get it any more!
