1. Welcome aboard. Don't let your new found ability just stay indoors, get out and gig! You sound like you are making good progress. Keep practicing and above all keep enjoying it
2. A walking blues bass line is another fave of mine as most people know the sound. Really easy (another eyes shut groove!) I usually play it in G because it was the first walking bass line I learned and that was the key I learned it in!
3. I have 5. Two fretted and two fretless 4 strings and a 5 string fretless. They all get played at various times. I have a fretted one in my bedroom to noodle on in the morning before work. The rest are on the wall ready to go! (I have a very nice wife who loves me very much!) I also have an acoustic guitar in my bedroom and 2 electric ones on the living room. I am a sad git (I used to have 12 guitars and one bass but as I play bass mostly these days my collection has changed)
4. I usually play Money as I can play it with my eyes shut..... and that usually impresses not musical types
5. I need to get learning the dots then and perhaps with much effort and practice I too can be on a cruise ship........ Oh well, better get used to being a land lubber
6. As others have said, get the amp raised up. It generally does not use any more floor space but works wonders for the ability to hear it!
7. A great cab IMHO and more than capable of handling the power!
8. I find that when I do the acoustic stuff, there is very little clapping. Full electric with rocking numbers always gets applause! I went to watch a new band on the Aylesbury scene on Friday and the crowd went mad after every tune. The misses and I clapped and whooped along with everyone else.
9. It's alright until you play Radar Love as there are a lot of F#'s in that one! Natural resonance can play havoc. Getting the rig off the ground can help, especially if you stand in front to disrupt the waveform. But if it is attuned to the building, then you just have to play through it
10. Always be nice, especially as you have known them so long.
11. Well, after falling out with my playing partner, no gigs since February Made redundant after 14 years of service. BUT I am happy which I haven't been for some years! My playing has improved (to me anyway) and I have been writing new material. My new job is fantastic and I look forward to giging again next year with a new band
12. I find that with the dots only, I don't look at the fret board. When I use the lined one there is a temptation to look! They are so faded that I can't really see them anyway (that's being in your mid 40's for you!)
13.
What??!! GET OUT!!
I don't use a pick so I don't hit the strings hard enough!
14. I have never broken a bass string whilst playing. Or a guitar string for that matter! Edit: Just not trying hard enough........
15. I think the difference between me and a young begginer is that I accept I'm rubbish and post stuff just to get a reaction! Still, if you can't take it, really don't post it. The reaction is just bravado on his part
16. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:76691] Cheap but reliable Still, I would save it non the less!
17. Here's my page http://soundcloud.com/blademan_98 Not a lot there yet but I hope to post stuff I have already recorded.
18. I own two Jazz basses. Both Squirer with silly Fender decals applied (not by me!). One's fretted and the other fretless. I bought them off BC members. Both are brilliant and play well. As second hand instruments they have had better pickups etc added so good value I love the feel of a Jazz neck. If you are unsure, get a cheaper one and live with it for a while. Then you can lash out on a uber cool American one. Good luck.
19. Just had a listen and a jam along on my fretless Just don't tell my misses!
20. I liked it
21. I keep seeing these posts about fret markers. Do you really need them whilst gigging? I don't tend to look that much and your ears soon let you know if you are wrong!
22. It's my wifes Birthday weekend and sadly she doesn't share my passion for your music I have friends in Leeds and would have made the trip otherwise! Have fun at the gig.
23. Mmmm nice setup. I too like this sort of thing
24.
any comments on the recording of this guys, mixed it all myself.
That is a very professional sounding mix. Good balance. You can hear the individual instruments and the vocals are clear. Great song too! I can honestly say (IMHO) it is of commercial grade.
25. I had to listen to it with my headphones on as my family would have slapped me for listening to Jazz....... Really enjoyed it Good stuff
