1. According to the Orange web site, when revalving there may be a need to re-bias. Also advises it should be done by a qualified technician. If you are unsure, chat to chaps at Watford Valves. My advice would be to get the valves fitted by a tech.
2. Very nice! Santa must really like you
3. +1 on the above This is a great place to find equipment and answers! (plus a load more questions you hadn't thought of )
4. If you can't get a replacement in the short term, then Watford valves are a good to deal with (IMHO). http://www.watfordva...ail.asp?id=2236 The link is for the full kit to suit the AD200. I do think you should replace the lot (I would).
5. Well done! Nailing a groove is always special I hope to get one right soon........
6. I don't insure, but then again, my kits all cheap junk
7.
i try to act natural, but failing that, smile and act convincing
Ah, the old 'look professional' stance......
8. I tried a cheap set of Rotosounds and didn't like them. My thomastik infeld jazz flats are of similar price but are 100 times better! I have them on my Jazz and my Rogue and they sound fantastic.
9. I am tempted I love orange amps.
10. We discussed the getting of gigs tonight. I have contacts in Aylesbury but have said each member has to get at least 3 gigs each. That way we can play around Bucks and spread the net. I am looking forward to getting out there in the New Year
11. Update: I now have a singer and if all goes well, we should be gigging by Feb....... I keep things posted on here
12.
Mustang Sally springs to mind......
right up there with Freebird......
13.
I'd play nursery rhymes as long as someone pays me .
I usually get paid NOT to sing........
14. Have bass will play for food...
15. Welcome aboard. Sounds like you are back on track. Keep plugging away and hopefully your health will improve!
16.
If you have to plug your lead into the mains to get 240V, does that make it a lead bass?
Just spilt my hot chocolate
17. My dad bought me a classical guitar in 1978 as he thought electric ones were the devils work.... how right he was
18.
As has been said, it's another tool. For most bands you don't need to slavishly copy the original bass parts, but also deciding you're going to have your own 'style' will make you look an ass if you try to play like a hard rocker on a gentle ballad. What works for the song is what makes the song sound the best it can - possibly better than the original if you're covering someone else's music. As a guitar player of >30 years, when I came back to bass I deliberately used fingers to differentiate from my main instrument. Now I really enjoy the sheer physicality of playing bass and literally getting to grips with it, but I carry a pick in my pocket to use if a song calls for it.
What he said (I too carry a pick, even though I can no longer use one ) I do use my thumb to do up / down strokes but cannot gain the speed for metal etc playing. (I stick to the blues now!)
19.
I thought that was illegal, basically because your time out side of what the hours they pay you is none of their business and unless you are paying HMRC and keeping a full book (Which could get you a rebate on your tax) It's not a job but a hobby. I know one of the guys I worked with had a second job as a cleaner at night. Job one tried to force him to knock it on the head. But from what I Recall they couldn't as the two didn't have the same hours. I thought the only time that could be enforced was in the case of driving where you are under the taco rules . (And I don't mean Mexican food )
You are probably right, but I thought it better to agree and get the job. I will not be telling them every time I gig. I think it is just so I don't gig every night and get so tired I can't perform my tasks at work. I had a similar clause in my last position so I think it must be legal to put it in. TBH I am just happy to be working again!!!!!
20.
Do the non musicians have a similar clause 'Fishing will not get in the way of work' or 'My mid week drinking session down the bucking duck will not get in the way of work' Alot of people have 'normal' hobbies they can take to the extreme. I've known guys throw sickies over pigeons or tropical fish. One of my mates Dads would go around the UK showing chickens. He bred them to sell too and when he gave up showing he went to the same shows as a judge. Also if he pulled that clause here to some of the guys I worked with who were in pipe bands he would have a discrimination suit on his desk before close of business that day.
Whilst I agree whole heartedly with your sentiment, I was unemployed and the offer - including clause - was the only permanent position I had been offered in 4 months. I accept the clause as it will make little difference to my gigging (I only gig at the weekends anyway) and the job is just what I was looking for. The company has a universal policy of no second jobs without prior agreement. As being a musician counts as a second job, I needed that to be included. Makes sense I suppose
21. I sold my Yamaha 5 string Fretless to Toni. What a really nice chap! Toni, I hope you can do better things with it than I did You are welcome any time to come over for a jam.
22.
I've been lucky with my previous jobs in that I've never had a conflict between day job and gig. I've only been in my current role a couple of months but I don't think it would be an issue to get away early as the owner of the business is a drummer in an originals band and one of the managing directors is a singer. We chatted last Friday at our staff night out about getting a guitarist and doing something ourselves for a bit of a laugh
My new managing director is a bass player and that's why he insisted it was in my contract that my job comes first and music cannot get in the way There are several musicians at work and they have the same clause
23.
Rubbish - Stanley Clarke, Billy Sheehan, Steve Harris and countless others
Rubbish - Every hard rock, metal, punk hardcore and countless others (see above )
24. My first gig was in 1979 at a mates birthday party. We played the first song (a Beatles track) and the lads mother told the DJ to start.... We sloped off and I didn't gig again for a very long time!
25. Most people would agree that a plectrum gives more speed. I personally can't use one (grip problems) so I just use my fingers. If you can use one, it should give you a greater turn of speed
