1.
I used to have the hots for dr helena russell when i was 14
Ah, yes..... didn't we all
2. Yes, to answer your OP, you should change it to this:
3. ........and keep us informed . I too would like to play upright. It sounds like a great way to go with hiring the instrument first. I agree on the lesson comment above too. Go for it and have fun.
4. Really great song. I loved the bass part on that recording. Headphones on and big grin
5.
The idea of adjusting your guitar until happy works fine much of the time. But what if you are setting up a guitar and desire a lower string height than the build quality of the guitar will allow ? or you are setting up an instrument for someone else and they require a lower height than the instrument in it's current state will allow ? or the instrument's owner requires a certain spec ? This is the kind of situation that may be presented to the luthier.
Then it will not work or sound good. You would, by it's very nature, have to do more work to attain the string height. Feel is better than measuremnt on an organic device like a wooden neck. I understand what you are trying to say and achieve, but I really don't think it works in reality
6. I don't take much notice of how it is handed as the manufacturer should take the same amount of care. it is nice to see that section of the community catered for.
7.
i could sell two of my three and it wouldn't make me a worse player.
If I sold all mine, it would be better for my neighbours
8. I actually decided not to go in today and walked past....! My GAS for new basses has been fulfilled for the time being. I will start again when looking for a light weight gigging rig
9.
and were replaced with good taste... Time to go.
I thought I would add a 'like' while they still exist
10. Greg Lake - Still you turn me on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoxHGxQw9ws I don't know why, I get the timing wrong. The notes are fine, it's just the timing I get wrong
11. Cool I think I could manage that too (as I'm not a bass player really either!)
12.
I saw him last week in Basingstoke. Georgie Fame, Albert Lee - some serious players. I like Wyman but he is probably the least talented in that band. The drummer and piano player were amazing and the horn section were really fun to watch. It was a little show band for my tastes in places but Wyman was doing what he wants to do. I don't know about other nights but he walked on and said "this isn't a career move for me" which I liked. I'm pleased I saw him.
Yep, he said the same at the gig. A really good night. I was sat in the airport whilst typing but I'm back now! It was going to be a review but my phone is not that good
13. I went to see Bill Wyman last night. Albert lee and George fame in the line up. really good although Bill lacked enthusiasm somewhat (trying to type on my phone = fail)
14.
Not much of a 'balanced' system if it doesn't appear on Administrators' posts!
I was going to post something similar but didn't want to upset the mods........
15.
This is still the most baffling: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2a15c75900 Ebony neck? B0ll0cks! Notice it says short scale body, yet it's a bog standard Fender copy neck with the headstock butchered. This is explained here: "I ALSO NEED TO POINT OUT THAT THE TUNING IS A BIT STRANGE MAYBE YOU CAN SORT IT OUT OR EXTEND THE BOTTOM OF THE BODY SO THE BRIDGE CAN GO FURTHER BACK...ITS ASHAME FOR SUCH A NICE INSTRUMENT TO BE HUNG ON THE WALL...THEN AGAIN WHY NOT...ITS A WORK OF ART..."
That made me quite ill......
16. What, no Fender Jazz? No matter which one, I am sure it will be mellow and full of Mwaaah! I love my fretless basses
17. Hmmm £300 for the complete system Not my bag
18. Great suff as ever. You do need to listen to this sort of thing on a good system. I am gassing for a Meridian system.
19. Anything by Leonard Cohen, especially Hallelujah (but I am a big fan). Also for simple bass lines you can't beat The Monkees! Lots of Bob Dylan songs too. Any slow blues will also do it for me!
20.
I don't mean to be a big girly downer but i think it sounds awful. Sorry.
I don't normally like slap but thought it was good Each to their own and I would be worried if everyone liked it I just hadn't seen a fretless slapped before (but I have led a sheltered life!)
21.
Stew is a great player and a really nice guy!
He certainly is a great player. I really enjoyed the video. Do you know if that is wear or just the wood colour?
22.
Not sure that it's wear? Looking at the shadows the fretboard looks pretty good. Isn't it just wood of a different colour?
Could be. I just get the feeling he does that routine a lot
23. I dont know if this has been posted before: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbXLdNes404&NR=1 I thought it was pretty cool The wear to the fretboard is amazing!
24. The last time I tried a bass out in a shop, the shop owner started tapping the beat and singing the song (Radar Love). Wouldn't have minded but I was playing 'This guitar wants to kill your mother'
