1. At work: Spotify on headphones In the car: CD or R4 Cooking/washing up: 6 Music Very occasionally I'll actually put a CD on the good stereo and just listen
2. I agree with our leafy colleague above. Some people have the money and inclination to buy the latest and greatest thing, and then you'll see it on the market a while later when the next toy tempts them. Nothing wrong with it, and it has no bearing on the quality.
3. A sweaty hat gig this summer at Spanky Van Dykes, Nottingham: [Img]http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg580/christopher_brown14/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-09/FB_IMG_1442868915357_zps9m3yrmki.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> [Img]http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg580/christopher_brown14/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-09/FB_IMG_1442868905229_zpsitcjekio.jpg" class="ipsImage" />
4. We've all seen people building up songs with loopers, but this chap Mike Love does it in a very creative way. Good stuff up to 4:20 then it gets very good indeed: http://youtu.be/fU7hZ3smj0g
5. Yep, I have a 78 P which started life out as Olly White, although it was stripped by the time I came into its life. I've just refinished it In original Olly white again. It'll be quite unusual because it's white and not yellow!
6.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who would very much like to see an example...
IIRC you just need to Google image search "Bass knob stacked UK" for an example
7.
Another 'the years haven't been kind ...' photo essay: 1985: 2015:
Mate, you've improved with age
8. Yes, it has been debated often on the forum. I'm in the same position in that I went class D for a while, but eventually went back to heavy stuff as something was just not there. Never say never though - the technology is improving all the time, and we're just starting to see the next generation of class D power amps.
9.
For any fettlers out there, I saw a genuis product the other day called plastimake. It's on ebay for about 5 quid a bag. It's a bag of plazzy polymer , you put some in boiling water for 5 mins then scoop it out, mould it into any thing you like, then set it by putting it in cold water....... The possibilities are endless in terms of craft, bodge repair....... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nMAd4FpXpy4 Watch the link....... LET THE BODGING BEGIN !!!!!
I'm on it!!
10.
I'd like a Bear-faced cab.
I know a chap who played euphonium in a brass band. He built one into a stuffed panda. Called it a Pandamonium.
11. Slightly loosen then re tighten up the neck screws? That has worked in the past *I'd probably slacken the strings off somewhat first
12.
Neotech Mega Bass Strap. More comfy than my Mono. More adjustment too.
+1 Great strap, really comfy. I bought one after I busted my left shoulder and it hurt to just wear the bass with the normal leather strap. It enabled me to keep gigging and has remained on the bass ever since.
13.
What's RWC ?
Use Google, my ambient friend http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Rwc
14.
...And don't get me started on the clown who turns up with a four- way mains splitter - IN WHITE...........
You'd love my black mains splitter then .... into which I plug my two orange mains cables.
15. Never tried a Fodera, but on the subject of Wood & Tronics, I know that Enrico spent a lot of time at the Fodera workshop, and used this experience as inspiration when he went back to Italy to make W&T instruments. It is certainly evident in the exquisite laminated 's' shaped neck joints on the thru-necks.
16. Can you put it beside a can of Coke for scale purposes please (not one of the crappy tiny ones you get on airplanes) I can only truly guage the size of something if it's beside a can of coke.
17. It's a frickin' bargain! A top notch quality gigging head for £300
18. Good stuff - have a good one dep, and well done Simon for sorting so well in advance
19. Happy Hour by the Housemartins would fit in nicely with that set: http://youtu.be/7_TMUJIWwyI
20. Nottingham World Music Festival, Sneinton Market, yesterday. [Img]http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg580/christopher_brown14/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-09/FB_IMG_1441558041430_zpscgbqpwqr.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> Photographer must dig the new aluminium scratchplate
21. That's rubbish 😠. Chalk it up to experience I suppose What do you mean you were "up a tone?"
22. Milty, I think that this thread has taken a nasty turn for a couple of reasons: some are being (unnecessarily?) defensive because they perceive your 'curiousity' as thinly veiled criticism. Others are exasperated by what appears to be a very obtuse reaction to something which has been explained quite clearly already. We know you are a smart chap, and a people person, so this stance which seems to be based purely on logic and ignoring human nature is all the more baffling. To me anyway
23. I think the op means the chamfer/bevel cut all the way around* the top edge *so so desparate to use the word "curcumsized" which literally means "cut around", but I fear it would lead to confusion
24.
Rico was recording from around 1958 in Jamaica.
I know he was a veteran - just saying that his playing with the Specials popularised the sound for a whole new generation in the UK
25. I think that any of us could make good music with cheap instruments (especially with the quality of today's cheap stuff) and I agree that the vast majority of the audience couldn't tell the difference. However, to think that pleasing the audience is the only motivation seems a bit, erm, logical; to me that's the sort of question I'd expect to come from a (hypothetical) robot, trying to make sense of something but with little experience of human behaviour. In the real world, the reason is a cocktail of many motivations. Off the top of my head: - The belief (arguably misguided, but very potent) that more expensive equals better - Showing off to others - Personal satisfaction that you own a handmade/boutique instrument - You love the way it looks - You love the way it plays - You feel that it is correct for the genre/band image - You wanted to see if they live up to the hype - John Entwhistle played one and you've lusted after one since you were a teenager etc. etc. Note that most of the above have little to do with impressing the audience. Logical thinking would make Basschat very, very dull
