Making the trombone cool since 1977. His simple yet effective solo in A Message to you Rudy is always good for a bit of air trombone.

Lovely bass but, nope, I just can't live with...
Roland Rock replied to TrevorR's topic in Bass Guitars
I don't think I could have a bass with a short top horn, not because of the neckdive so much as the way the whole thing hangs too far to the left. This is unfortunate, as I love the look of the EB3,,hollowbodies, Status King bass and Steinberger basses -

I got all excited when we were asked to support The Beat - their management even did up the poster, then I find out that our drummer is away that week The same week we have to decline a slot with Dawn Penn as we've already agreed to support Neville Staples. Ah well, we must be doing something right!

Unfortunately we had to decline support slots with The Beat (drummer on hols) and Dawn Penn (double booked) but are supporting Neville Staples later in the year. Two local festivals this weekend: Saturday: Nottingham World Music Festival https://www.facebook.com/events/1717703131790752/ Sunday: Green Festival https://www.facebook.com/events/1438826433090019/

Uptown Funk - anyone nailed the tone?
Roland Rock replied to Truckstop's topic in General Discussion
I've not tried hooking a mic up to an envelope filter, might have to try this next week !
It's good fun. I don't have the Mutron any more, but remember setting the depth control so that it just kicked in with an emphasised vowel sound and the consonant sounds sounded nice and percussive. I remember the line "Why don't you give a damn" with nice big vowel sounds and the D's on the one and three - that worked quite well. Never quite made it to the stage though - narrow minded singer syndrome 😉😀 -

Try hooking a mic up to an envelope filter and singing the line - I've done this in the past with a Mutron and it sounds great. Bonus points if you can do that and play the electric bass part at the same time! 😁 -
Recording with a Wal, gigging with something else?
Roland Rock replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
I never got the issue about Wals and weight. It may be because I am 6'1" and 17 stone and that the 'extra' weight of a Wal is, in percentage terms, relatively minimal. It may also be that I have played one almost exclusively for 29 years and cannot remember what a lighter bass feels like. Compared to manipulating a double bass, it is a dream.
Similar with my P. I had played it happily for ten years (with a thin leather strap) and it was only when I joined BC that I was told that it's 'unplayable' -
Albums that are not given the recognition they deserve.

Hmmm... Probably Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band -
Glad you got sorted. They look great

Looks great!

I have mixed feelings on this too. My main uses for SC are to listen to DJ sets, and to showcase my band's music. SC plays our music for free, but if SC complied, then we would see some return for each listen, which suits me fine. However, the DJ sets I listen to have countless samples and remixes which I love. I'd hate it if all of this great content was pulled because it was prohibitively expensive.

What are you listening to right now?
My brother took a crap in my old mans acoustic, which stuck to the inside and over months desicated. My old man kept complaining about a sh*tty smell in the front room. Eventually some time later my old man dropped his plectrum into the guitar and did the old turn it upside down and shake it whilst looking through the whole. You guessed it the dried poo dislodged and fell out of the guitar hitting my old man in the forehead. We wet ourselves laughing. How does this happen? You say that part never gets touched?

Oh, and play something by Pulp

Count yourself lucky - according to the advert, craftsmen (craftspeople?) at Lexus have to prove their worth by doing origami, with their non-dominant hand, against the clock.
My exact words (inc typo) were.....
That's my memory shot then Just checked, and it was my other suggestion of Ron Carter where it had been done before. Come on Bilbo, that was three years ago, where's the Ray Brown book??

Measure and weigh it, then go to http://www.interparcel.com and you'll find many price and service options. You can have services which will pick it up from your house, or many have a list of places where you can drop it off.

UJahm have been quiet of late what with holidays and stuff, but gigs are coming up - Nottingham World Music Festival, Nottingham Green Festival, Two sets at Hockley Hustle, and have been asked to do support slots for Neville Staples (The Specials) in Nottingham, The Beat in Leamington Spa, and Dawn Penn in Leicester! Details when stuff confirmed 👍

Some amazing players there, although personally I dislike the chorus-soaked high register melodic noodling stuff. Nathan Navarro's dubstep intro was cool. Miki Santamaria (Chrome Yamaha BB) is superb! Really funky and great tone. Nik West (coloured strings) sounds great, but the tone seems very muffled. Cody Wright's envelope filter stuff is funky as hell. Rene Flachsenhaar (semi hollow with bulbous lower horn), love that too. Eyal Amir (Nord Lead ?) - love that synth tone. Pascal Mulot wins tinniest slap bass tone award 😁

A while back, our very own published jazz biographer Bilbo was canvassing opinion re. who to cover next. I suggested Ray Brown, but was informed that that subject was well and truly covered. In short, ask Bilbo
