1. Milty, I think that this thread has taken a nasty turn for a couple of reasons: some are being (unnecessarily?) defensive because they perceive your 'curiousity' as thinly veiled criticism. Others are exasperated by what appears to be a very obtuse reaction to something which has been explained quite clearly already. We know you are a smart chap, and a people person, so this stance which seems to be based purely on logic and ignoring human nature is all the more baffling. To me anyway
2. I think the op means the chamfer/bevel cut all the way around* the top edge *so so desparate to use the word "curcumsized" which literally means "cut around", but I fear it would lead to confusion
3.
Rico was recording from around 1958 in Jamaica.
I know he was a veteran - just saying that his playing with the Specials popularised the sound for a whole new generation in the UK
4. I think that any of us could make good music with cheap instruments (especially with the quality of today's cheap stuff) and I agree that the vast majority of the audience couldn't tell the difference. However, to think that pleasing the audience is the only motivation seems a bit, erm, logical; to me that's the sort of question I'd expect to come from a (hypothetical) robot, trying to make sense of something but with little experience of human behaviour. In the real world, the reason is a cocktail of many motivations. Off the top of my head: - The belief (arguably misguided, but very potent) that more expensive equals better - Showing off to others - Personal satisfaction that you own a handmade/boutique instrument - You love the way it looks - You love the way it plays - You feel that it is correct for the genre/band image - You wanted to see if they live up to the hype - John Entwhistle played one and you've lusted after one since you were a teenager etc. etc. Note that most of the above have little to do with impressing the audience. Logical thinking would make Basschat very, very dull
5. Making the trombone cool since 1977. His simple yet effective solo in A Message to you Rudy is always good for a bit of air trombone.
6. We will offer 20 more at £249 for the official launch before going back to the RRP of £299"

8. I don't think I could have a bass with a short top horn, not because of the neckdive so much as the way the whole thing hangs too far to the left. This is unfortunate, as I love the look of the EB3,,hollowbodies, Status King bass and Steinberger basses
9. "How Long" by Ace
10. I got all excited when we were asked to support The Beat - their management even did up the poster, then I find out that our drummer is away that week The same week we have to decline a slot with Dawn Penn as we've already agreed to support Neville Staples. Ah well, we must be doing something right!
11. Unfortunately we had to decline support slots with The Beat (drummer on hols) and Dawn Penn (double booked) but are supporting Neville Staples later in the year. Two local festivals this weekend: Saturday: Nottingham World Music Festival https://www.facebook.com/events/1717703131790752/ Sunday: Green Festival https://www.facebook.com/events/1438826433090019/
12.
I've not tried hooking a mic up to an envelope filter, might have to try this next week !
It's good fun. I don't have the Mutron any more, but remember setting the depth control so that it just kicked in with an emphasised vowel sound and the consonant sounds sounded nice and percussive. I remember the line "Why don't you give a damn" with nice big vowel sounds and the D's on the one and three - that worked quite well. Never quite made it to the stage though - narrow minded singer syndrome 😉😀
13. Try hooking a mic up to an envelope filter and singing the line - I've done this in the past with a Mutron and it sounds great. Bonus points if you can do that and play the electric bass part at the same time! 😁
14.
I never got the issue about Wals and weight. It may be because I am 6'1" and 17 stone and that the 'extra' weight of a Wal is, in percentage terms, relatively minimal. It may also be that I have played one almost exclusively for 29 years and cannot remember what a lighter bass feels like. Compared to manipulating a double bass, it is a dream.
Similar with my P. I had played it happily for ten years (with a thin leather strap) and it was only when I joined BC that I was told that it's 'unplayable'
15. Hmmm... Probably Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
16. Glad you got sorted. They look great
17. Looks great!
18. I have mixed feelings on this too. My main uses for SC are to listen to DJ sets, and to showcase my band's music. SC plays our music for free, but if SC complied, then we would see some return for each listen, which suits me fine. However, the DJ sets I listen to have countless samples and remixes which I love. I'd hate it if all of this great content was pulled because it was prohibitively expensive.
19.
My brother took a crap in my old mans acoustic, which stuck to the inside and over months desicated. My old man kept complaining about a sh*tty smell in the front room. Eventually some time later my old man dropped his plectrum into the guitar and did the old turn it upside down and shake it whilst looking through the whole. You guessed it the dried poo dislodged and fell out of the guitar hitting my old man in the forehead. We wet ourselves laughing. 20. How does this happen? You say that part never gets touched?
21. or It Bites
22. Oh, and play something by Pulp
23. Count yourself lucky - according to the advert, craftsmen (craftspeople?) at Lexus have to prove their worth by doing origami, with their non-dominant hand, against the clock.
24.
My exact words (inc typo) were.....
That's my memory shot then Just checked, and it was my other suggestion of Ron Carter where it had been done before. Come on Bilbo, that was three years ago, where's the Ray Brown book??
