As per above, probably not octave unless you want a synthy tone. LPF is the way to go.

Hockley Hustle big city centre charity festival sprwad over about 40 venues: We were supposed to be on at 3:30 We soundchecked at 5.00 The PA dude had many issues, including lack of cables and lack of grace under pressure. Gig turned ouf to be pretty good though and thd later time meant a decent crowd.

Lonnie Plaxico's Melange album is probably my favourite album of the genre. This one, Windy City, is quite slap bass, but has superb energy, especially during the solos. What I love about LP's bass playing is that it is soo deep and tight with the rhythm section. One more thing then I'll shup up.. If the bass EQ and the Avalon's presets are not enough for you, there are possibilities depending on what power amp you have. Mine, like many, offers no EQ - it just amplifies. However, my previous power amp, the Crown XTi2000 was much more flexible. As well as hpf, sub and crossover settings, you could plug it into your computer and create up to 25 (IIRC) presets with whatever boost/cut at whatever frequencies you want. I had a play and created some notch presets (to dial out boom in various rooms) although never needed it. You could create one and call it "Jazz Rounds" or another called "P Bass Flats" If you wanted.

I agree that tye BF are premium cabs and justifiably command premium prices. It's just that the 610 is a grand, so 50% more for the 810 seems a bit steep to me

To be fair, the Orange 810 isn't far off that price. Also, Glockenklang's 610 is around £1300

It would be cheaper to buy a 610 and a 210 together. Not quite as cool though.

That's a lot of money, and as it's so unique it's hard to see what similar things cost. The Ampeg Heritage 810 is a grand. I suppose you've got to ask how much the weight saving is worth (obviously sound quality and dispersion are factors too)

I've used the EP2 and EP3. The EP2 did develop a slight squeak, but it was no big deal. The only differences between the EP2 and EP3 as far as I can tell are: -The part that moves the pot is a bit of string on the EP2 and a much sturdier bit of rigid plastic on the EP3 -The lead is hardwired into the pedal on the EP2, but is a jack socket on the EP3. I prefer the latter as space is tight on my board so I can plug a right angled lead into it. Sorry, I'm not familiar with any stuttering from either.

I've always only had one. Until Basschat. Then another one crept in. I then bought another with the intention of selling one, but that hasn't happened yet so I'm on a record high of three ATM. One is fine. Two is a nice luxury. Any more than that and it starts to feel a bit wrong.

If you are the type who likes to dial in specific frequencies for each room/bass/song then it's probably not for you. I'm more the type to find a quality core tone and stick with it. The only EQ change I do is put the pickup selector onto neck pup for some specific songs. There are some EQ options available though, in the form of the six presets on the U5: Some of these sound great. I love the sound of preset 2 on my neck pup, but then when I go to the bridge pup, it (not surprisingly) doesn't work so well. On a multi-band gig where we were using my amp, one chap put it on preset 3, and it sounded fantastic with his clanky/slappy style. So there are options, but for simplicity I just bypass the EQ all the time. Sounds great.

The owners of my workshop (in Arnold) have operated a rent a bench scheme in the past, but pretty sure they have stopped now due to space issues. Will check though. FYI it was £30 per day, or less if you booked a week or a month

I know it's just a case, but I get a disproportionate amount of joy when I use it. They are expensive new, but just about justifiable used off EBay. Great quality is an understatement - shock proof, waterproof, it even has a valve to equalise pressure on a plane!. This 1450 model fits the U5 nicely. I've been using the Avalon for over a year now, first with a Crown XTi power amp, then a Crest CA9, through a Barefaced Super Twin. The first thing to say is, yes, you can feed the power amp and the DI at the same time. Like you say, use the line level for the power amp and the mic level for the DI and it works a treat. i first heard the Avalon when doing some recording, and thought that's the tone I want live. I love this setup - simple, clean and oozing quality. The Crown amp was good, but the Crest is amazing. On the Avalon, I tend to bypass the EQ presets and it sounds so clear and musical. Enjoy!

You've got me wondering now. I'd allocate points as follows: Noodle: 1 point Practice: 3 points Short gig: 5 points Long gig: 7 points A formula keeps tabs on the total for each bass, and a traffic light colour system alerts you if any are being a bit neglected. I'm tempted, but only use two basses 😕
