1. Hi Dan, Do you still have one of these left? All the best Richard
2. I'd heard the same- a Christian metal group? I dunno. Either way some great stuff- got turned on to him last year. Some Xmas tunes he'd done. His last album was great too.
3. He got hounded out of here if I remember rightly- pretty embarrassing at he time I think. He's always inspired me in some way or another from years ago- and I'm not a huge fanboy- I just find his enthusiasm infectious. He seems super-mellow and well grounded now too. Loving the vlogs.
4. What Blue said. Once the gig is offered to you, they should honour it really especially as you are a regular dep. It doesn't solve your problem though. As Blue said, take the one gig but remember this instance.
5. Great lightweight cab now surplus to requirements. Easy one man lift. 6. The HD210 is definitely a weighty cab both physically and sonically but I'm one who has tried D class and neo speakers and has gone back to ceramic and solid state amplification. Re the Bergs- I think those who have them, rate them. They are like rocking horse sh*t on here- I'd love another HD112.
7. You must have been there when I was. You're right- Sean was great back then. I left in 1990. Hang on, I forgot- is that u Martin?
8. Massive Industry back-slapping backhander alert. Album to promote for a failing artist and a build up to a reunion/anniversary tour (which happened a few years back with Progress so they've stolen their own thunder already) to push. Massively successful performer/recording artist? Yes. Icon? My arse.
9. The trpt and sax in Mark Ronson's Valerie. I know the lax tuning was prob intentional to make it sound retro but I think they went too far! The bridge section is painful.

Great site, this - I bought some and they arrived within two days!
Crikey. They're not cheap!
12. The Dunlop Superbrights, including the MM sig set, are anything but high tension so best avoided if you want more tension.
13. If you're doing "Never Too Much" or "Somebody Else's Guy" you need the technique under your fingers. You also need a great mix out front 😀
14.
Cool clips - to my ears the live tone is infinitely better than the studio tone! Does anyone know what compressor he uses live?
He used to use an Empirical Labs Distressor- not sure if that is still the case. Pretty transparent by all accounts but as Garry said- he works it hard once he starts laying in!!
15.
Did you have the Fender MM with the stock pre and then change to Sadowsky? If so, I am keen to know what the Sadowsky offered in terms of tone?
It was that long ago I couldn't tell you. I think I followed the crowd on that one a bit- lots of talk of the stock pre not being great. I was watching a lot of Marlowe DK at the time- he was just breaking on YouTube and he'd done the same to his MM. The first time I played it as stock I thought "Yup, that's the sound" The last time I played it with the Sadowsky it sounded great too- it helped it was drop D at the time! I bought the Sadowsky at a time when the £ was strong against the $ so it was worth the punt.
16. Crikey. So many thoughts but if you really want 'that' sound quickly on a 5 string then a Fender MM sig 5 will get you there. Even with the stock pre it's close. I have a 4 string sig model and fitted a Sadowsky pre. It sounds great slapped but I've never A-B'd it to MMs classic tone. I agree that the Sire isn't 'that' sound. I have 2 though and am very happy with them as I'm not after the exact MM sound. Even Marcus doesn't sound like classic Marcus on a Sire V7. Agreed with Garry re Wayne Braithwaite- heard him on Jonathan Butler's stuff in the late 80s. Pleasure's bassist Nate Phillips sounded like MM before Marcus did! We've all heard Glide- listen to Marcus' sound around 79-80 on say Chaka's Naughty and then listen to Glide.
17. I watched about 95% of it and enjoyed it. Most songs are very hooky and they put on a decent show. The sight of that many people having a ball enhances things massively too. So many points- the Spinal Tap egginess when they stopped re tuning issues (we've all been there), the obvious howlers on the piano, the cringey karaoke at the end, all made it very real and a contrast to the uber-slick productions we get used to these days which sometimes make me feel like it doesn't matter if there's an audience. The Viola Beach moment was a lovely touch.
18.
Check items wanted, I'm sure someone was looking for one of these .. J
Yup, its one of the guys from Bass Direct oddly enough http://basschat.co.uk/topic/287040-ken-smith-hadrien/
19. My favourite Prince albums are Purple Rain and Gold. I'm surprised Gold doesn't get more of s mention- every song is a belter for me. The first time I heard Endorphine Machine it blew my mind. Everything I love in music- rock, funk, sassy attitude, groove, Michael Bland knocking the crap out of the kit. Like a proper Prince Party. The Revolution were amazing but the NPG seemed to nail it. Diamonds and Pearls is stunning also- those two albums together- just wow. I'm also a fan of Chaos and Disorder- a bum release to fulfil his WBros contract but there are some cooking tunes on there. Some of the tracks on Purple Rain haunt me a bit now- I remember hearing it when it wax released so a lot of memories come flooding back then of A levels etc! He released some belting albums and a few duffers for me. The Paisley Park vaults must be overflowing with unreleased stuff and I fear an ugly battle for the rights to them is just around the corner.
20. I prefer Hi Beams to to the Fat Beams I think. I tried Super Brights on my Lakland and they sounded hideous- they seemed to really accentuate the Humbucker sound of the 55-94- but they are great on the Sire V7. Hi Beams on Lakland, Super brights on Sire V7. Happy me. I agree that the "Beam" DR range feel more abrasive than the Super Brights.
21. This kind of playing and production is just so bloody easy on the ears!!
22. The little riff you are talking about is 5th fret on D string, 5th fret on A string, open E. 4th fret D string, 4th fret A string, open E 5th fret A string, 2nd fret A string, 5th fret A string. Continue open E string shuffle groove. If you're playing along to the original, detune your E to an Eb and move fretted notes down a fret (5th to 4th, 4th to 3rd etc)
