1. JackieMoon- you have sold the area to me. Enough going on for me but also the option to get away from it all a bit too. Looking forward to exploring the area soon.
2. I worked there in 1994- a pretty little place but I think it has an ageing population. This usually means houses are blooming expensive too! We're still looking at areas of Bournemouth- I think anything too urbanised would be a massive shock to us coming from rural West Somerset. We're going to check some areas out in January. All this info has been a great help. Happy to listen to anymore.
3. Hmm. Some great advice here- some not shining an overly positive light on the area. To put things into perspective I have lived in Minehead for 15yrs where there truly is nothing but charity shops, tea rooms/coffee shops and poundshops (or so it feels). No real choice of schools, no gigging opportunities and a 50min drive to the M5 to get anywhere. It is also an incredibly beautiful part of the country where I have had a great time but at this juncture in life it feels like it is time to move on or I'll/we'll get stuck here once the kids get settled into schools etc. We can move anywhere- literally anywhere. I'm a muso, my wife is a singer so we have a great opportunity and I'd like to get it as right as possible.
4. Thanks for your responses. The catchment issue is a massive one- my daughters are 2 and 4 so there is plenty at stake. Anymore advice from Basschatters is welcome.
5. Hi all, A favour to ask from the Basschat community- after 15yrs in Somerset I'm relocating with the family (wife and 2 young children) and am drawn to Dorset (Bournemouth, Poole area) based on a hunch, a vibe, call it what you will. As a family we want good choice of schools, good amenities for kids and us, a coastal-ish location, countryside not too far away but city/big town life nearby also. There are no opportunities for me here as a musician and there is so little to do with the kids especially as they grow older. My question is this- is there a good/decent/vibrant scene in the B'mouth area or am I better off a little further east? I don't mind travelling for gigs/jam nights for networking etc but would hate to settle there and realise we got it wrong. The area appeals to me and S'hampton, Portsmouth, Chichester, Brighton are all drive-able to the east. Any musos from the area able to chip in? Thanks in advance.
6. Lionel Richie? I know his brother, Meballsare. Yeah, doesn't really work in the written word....
7. One was a straight 4 knob VVBT, the other was master volume, blend, stacked bass/treble and vintage tone control- I wanted to keep the tone control option pre so I swapped them when I decided to sell this.
8. The original Cory Henry video blew my mind- such control. He's one of the hippest dudes out there for me. He's like the new Herbie Hancock in terms if that "whoa" factor. What Dywayne has done to compliment it is perfect.
9. I can't get enough of this guy- my new YouTube bass hero. Ticks all of the boxes for me. The upside down-lefty thing makes it even better! I'd love some of his skills- he's got the AJ thing down great too. 10. I ordered this from Thomann but I no longer want it. It has had a bass in it for about 3hrs. Good padding and very spacious- easily suitable for 35" scale. I could return it but I'm not sure they'd take it back as I don't have the original packing. They cost about £18 according to the website but it cost me £27 delivered (exchange rate and charges etc) £20 delivered to UK address http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_gigbag_ebass_deluxe.htm
11. A Yamaha 12 channel powered mixer (EMX5000) in a flight case. 500w a side or 1000w bridged with SPX effects. £300 http://usa.yamaha.co...mixers/emx5000/ The desk is in excellent condition and has never had band use- some channels have never been used! Only used in a 'vocal and track.' situation. Only the flightcase shows signs of wear
12. Thanks for your interest and offer. I'd prefer a cash sale though.
13.
I so should have bought this last time. Fancy a trade?
Yeah sorry for the false starts on previous occasions. I was looking at your DJ5 and wondering whether I'd be tempted but tbh I just fancy getting rid of a bass. I bought a P bass a while back which is getting some use and I've started playing my Marcus 4 string too- I've gone all 4 string Fender! I have enough basses (for now)
14.
Chard! It was me seeing a photo of you with this bass that got me all excited and in our resulting chat - you introduced me to the world of Basschat! I wish I had the cash or I'd be after that. It truly is stunning. To anyone reading, I can personally vouch for Richard - top bloke, top player and I'm sure this is 100% everything he says it is. Good luck with the sale mate!
Stuey!! Cheers Stu :-)
15. Finally selling my Skyline JO5 which I've advertised on here and withdrawn twice (due to other basses being sold) If I'm honest, since I last advertised it on here I've gigged it once. It's just not getting used and I know there is a bit more love out there for a CAR Lakland jazz than I have. This bass has a Sadowsky pre in it- 2x vol, Treble and Bass boost with push/pull to bypass the pre. The serial number suggests this is a 2002 Korean build, it has the original Lindy Fralin pickups and is currently strung with DR HiBeams (45-125) The Photobucket link shows the bass with a clear guard that I don't have anymore and the attached photos show the bass as it is now. Please note damage to the very top of the headstock (doesn't affect the sound obviously but worth noting) and a small dink to the back of the neck which is on the lower side so has never been felt by my thumb. I had Martin Peterson smooth the neck to try to take out any imperfections when I bought the bass (this bass has had a few owners) and he made such a beautiful job of it. It really has a lovely satin feel to it. There is a quick-access battery compartment routed in the back of the bass. A previous owner had a new jack input area routed in a slightly different place than would be expected but this doesn't cause any problems when seated. I only mention this as it was a question asked the last time the bass was for sale. £595 COLLECTED. Delivery is extra or a meet-up could be arranged.
